1st Place: $200
2nd Place: $80
3rd Place: $40
If the tournament does not fill the prize pool will be split accordingly based on the #of entrants.
Format: 32 Participants maximum. Double Elimination. Based on how many people attend the tournament a certain number of final rounds in both the winners and losers bracket are going to best of 3. I want to incorporate best of 3s into this tournament as much as possible to ensure that the best players take home the money, but at the same time i dont want the lan running until 1am like the last one. So count on double elimination and some best of 3s (if anything it will be just the final 4 in both winners/losers bracket to play Bo3 and the finals a bo5)
Rules: Entry fee will be $25, this includes the full day at the lan center, the tournament entree, food, and 3 12oz sodas. This place does not have a kitchen, the food will be supplied by the people who run the center, they do however have a cooler with drinks and you can purchase more drinks if you want more than 3.
Equipment: Bring your own keyboard/mouse/headset if you want to use them. There is going to be approximately 6-8 computers opened at the place for use by tournament entrants only. There will also be 3 tables set up that i would like to station 6-8 of OUR OWN computers on. When you PM me for entrance to the lan if you have a desktop computer that you would like to bring and set up please let me know, the first 6-8 people to sign up will reserve these slots and everyone else will use the lan centers computers.
The lan center computers are by no means BAD and at a minimum will be able to play the game on medium settings, i just want computers brought from home so that: 1) the lan can stay open to regular customers and wont have us hogging all of their equipment and 2) so we can have as many games going at once as possible to allow best of 3s
Race choice can be determined until 3 days before the LAN so when you PM me for entrance, give me a race, and if you want to change then PM me again up until the 27th and i will gladly change it for you.
Details: The Tournament is being held at Galaxy Gaming in dover new hampshire. The address is 66 Third Street, Dover NH 03820. It is Right next to the train station at the top of the hill.
Streaming: There will be a projector set up upstairs of galaxy for spectators and our very own Drogith will be there for the action. Bringing you 1 game per round on the big screen. This will also be over his livestream online for everyone at home to watch also.
Spectators: If someone wants to come, but does not want to play in the tournament, the charge is going to be $5 or $15 to include food. If you could, please let me know in your PM that you will be bringing X amount of spectators so i have something to go off when everyone shows up to ensure i collected all of the money.
I expect the tournament to run for approximately 8 hours. If you bring your own computer you will be REQUIRED to show up before 12:30 to set up your gear so the tournament can get running by 1:00 PM. If you do not show up by 12:30 then you will not be setting up your computer and you will be playing on one they already have.
I will post brackets when a) the tournament fills or b) 3 days before the tournament.
Disclaimer: If the tournament does not have enough participants signed up within 2 weeks, i will be moving the date of the LAN to the 13th of November to allow for more sign up time. I am looking for at least 20 signups in the next 2 weeks.

Well this is the beginning of trying to develop a league in the New England area. Until we can get more sponsorship and some clout in the area, it has proven very hard to find locations to have a LAN closer to Boston that is not already a center.
I think a few guys came up from Boston on the last LAN, see if one of those guys can give you a ride or you may be able to grab the train up near someone.

Updated the map pool guys, and calm down CryinRushia AMIRITE?
I put these maps in because #1 it will spice up the usual map pool a bit and hopefully everyone wont choose metalopolis every single round.
#2 I would like to go w/ nothing but iCCup maps, however it will be a hastle searching for them and hosting them and getting everyone to practice on them... some cuz can only rly practice in the ladder so all of the maps coming from a place not in the ladder might hurt more than help.
So yea i just wanted to change things up a bit, but also not include crappy imbalanced maps like kulas ravine and desert oasis.
If someone has a suggestion of a map that should be removed and a different one added, and everyone agrees i can possibly change it but for now the maps ive selected are the map pool so get to practicing fellas!

Suggestion: First round by given to best costume!
Though I anticipate spending my halloween weekend indulging in deplorable activities this seems a healthy alternative.
Edit: I am taking time to consider this, I'd go for sure for the November 13th but would am thinking halloween weekend might be a good time to get together with old friends and I have a corporate retreat the weekend of the sat 7th.

i believe, both wireless and ethernet are available, they just moved locations so i will have to call and make sure but im guessing he probably just moved his router from the old place too the new place lol so im sure its both just like last time.

Gotta say, I'm kind of saddened by the map pool. I understand where you're coming from, but atm nearly every map in the pool is small and loaded with cliffs. And Lost Temple, really? No Xel'naga? No Scrap Station? Every game is going to become a 10 minute all-in timing push imo.

There are a few Blizzard maps. Obviously Metalopolis, but also Xel'Naga [ironically, both of these maps are in the iccup map pool - what do you think that means?]. I realize it'll take everyone a couple hours to learn a few iccup maps, but I mean hell, many of us are driving in from out of state and we're all committing hours of our time to the LAN, shouldn't we at least have fun, balanced games?

As a Zerg, that map-pool is absolutely terrifying in a Bo1, veto style.
As soon as Metal gets down-voted, I have no maps I would even want to play on.
Also, as to finding the ICCup Maps, just go into "Host Custom Game" and search for ICCup, they will come up right away.

Add in travel time as well and that means that I would be getting home at midnight to get ready for a party that probably started around 10 and if its a club/whatever will be ending at 2.
Seems reasonable to me to be concerned about going to an afternoon lan if you want to do something at night.

If only you read the original post and realized that this lan will not be running until 10pm. Im glad you are RIL GUD at math and all but the tournament will not run longer than 8 hours, i stated that before. You didnt at all take into account multiple games being played at a time...

I did take multiple games running at a time into account, in fact I assumed that all games of the same round would take place concurrently, which will not be the case since you are expecting there to be 12-16 computers for 32 players . If I didn't take concurrent games the length of the tourney would be much higher, something like a solid week of 24hour play, but since you are RIL GUD at math this should be obvious to you(hint: round 1 would take 16 hours minimum at 30min/game with no concurrent games)
Now what you should have attacked if you actually wanted to try and say my estimate is wrong is the length of the games, or the assumption that a round does not start until the previous round is completely finished. You can start Round 2 earlier, but it makes synching everything up messier and really does not gain you all that much time. It would probably would gain you as much time as you lose because round 1 takes twice as long as I estimated since you only have enough computers for ~half the games to occur simultaneously.
and in any case the difference is 9pm vs 10pm which really doesn't necessarily alleviate the problem of wanting to go do something Saturday night.

If you are saying this then you really haven't been to a good halloween party. I'm like the only person I know who has never had a real interest in halloween but this last year I went to an awesome party at a somewhat local bar/music gig place and had an absolute blast with a bunch of friends. Several of my friends all remarked at how it was just an incredibly good time and they couldn't believe how much they cut loose.

Hey if anyone is coming from somewhere like NY/CT or somewhere thats like <2hrs from upstate new york, you should PM HpTheGreat and see if you guys can ride together... his car wont make it all the way up here very happily, but he said he could drive an hour or two and then ride the rest of the way w/ someone. the 1 person i knew coming from that way cant give him a ride due to Parental reasons so maybe someone can hook him up? I'd say it's between high gold and diamond. Even if you don't want to play in the tournament, swinging by to watch and mingle with other gamers is always chill. Plus they will have food... mmm... food

Do a search for New England and you should find the thread for the next LAN that is already set for the 13th of next month. But yeah, 100% come for spectators. If there isn't enough food altogether, I'm sure some pizzas will get bought from the guys next door or something to fill the masses.

I'm the one that added it to the calendar. The TL calendar is set on Korean time, so our Saturday at 1p is their Sunday 2a. I had a talk about it with Manifesto about it before. If you click on the actual date, it brings you up to a page that has all the correct times based on timezone.

Also another notable change will be the map pool. depending on how many no-shows we have etc, there might be bo3's in earlier rounds etc etc. But I will be picking the 1st map of every round. If it is a best of 3 round then after youve played game 1 on the map i have designated for that round, the loser will pick the next map, and if a 3rd game is a needed the loser of match 2 will choose that map.

haha sorry bout that =P i said i was thinking about changing the maps up ^_^ No worries Enigma is much like other 4 player maps except very terrain heavy and Starchild would prolly take months of practice to learn everything about... so no one will have a huge advantage on that map coming into this tourney haha.

In defense of what your saying Mylife, you did take a vote in the beginning asking about swapping races, and in most tournaments, random is considered a race. I'm going to check on my schedule for the 20th.

Yeah, I voted against the race changing too. Although ajtls was just simply "playing to win" (nothing wrong with that attitude), it was still a bit obnoxious.
Either way, the LAN was a ton of fun, definitely looking forward to the next one.

Needless to say ajtls wins after being completely smashed all game long.
So after that game, (series now 2-1 ajtls is up) He picks random on iCCup.Enigma and once again gets zerg (supposedly his "main" race) and HpTheGreat smashes him yet again... in another convincing victory.
So now the series is tied 2-2 and before game 5 starts, Drogith asks ajtls what map he wants to play...
His first choice is Kulas ravine (hmm wonder why), well kulas isnt in the map pool. So his next choice is Delta Quadrant (hmm WONDER WHY), well thats not in the map pool either. So then we tell him what the map pool is (you can look at it urself on page 1) and he chooses Steppes of war.
This game he doesnt pick random... he picks terran and sits on 2 bases w/ tanks/infantry at his choke, and once again masses thor/hellion and kills hpthegreat in a single push with 20+ scs in tow repairing all of his massively overpowered thors.
and basically game 6 was the same old shit all over again... mass thor with a thousand scvs repairing (and yes he PICKED terran this game again)
So basically the reason i think it is undeserved is because hp played better than him in almost all aspects if not every aspect of their matches and ajtls still comes out with wins.
these games really brought to light how overpowered thors are... I mean, yea im tired of listening to all of the terran complaints too but seriously... thors w/ scvs to repair are absolutely retarded... (even after the matches i spoke w/ ajtls and 1st thing he said to me was "wow thors are so Overpowered"
So yea i think it was undeserved because:
1) he tried to pick gay ass terran maps
2) Chose terran after randoming all day because he knew hp was the better player
3) Did the same gay ass boring strat every game because he knows its overpowered, simply to win an extra 70 bucks. (this is the guy who won 1100 dollars the night before playing poker at a casino)

There's no sense being sour over the results of the tournament . Isn't the whole point to bring together the local SC2 scene? Don't fault a player for trying to win the tournament, it wouldn't be fun if people weren't actually trying to win.

Shit happens. We shouldn't have voted to allow people to change races to suit certain maps or matchups. I thought that was the reason we signed up including our race along with all of the other relevant information.
In any event, it was a great day and it was cool to meet some other players. I'm glad SC2 has a much larger community for doing these types of things. In the five years I played BW, I went to a grand total of two LANs. SC2 is relatively brand new and there's already been like, five in the New England area with two more in the span of a week next month? That's awesome.
So yeah, no more race picking next time? kthxbai.

I understand that you are upset about the TvZ issue and how it was played; however, I believe that in a tournement with money involved that everyone should be playing to win. I (TheWrecker) cheesed much more then I am used to and I am fine with that. Its the results that I cared about and 4th place I am happy with.
You are completely one-sided on this and it really bothered me. I agree that LT, ajtls was completely outplayed to the max. HP didn't play perfectly either. Where was his third after defending all 'dat harass'. ?? Also why base trade with roaches when terran can lift? Some simple strategic errors on hp's side lost him that game. Ajtls didnt win that one, hp lost it.
When you lose you pick a map that suits you and the race you play and how you play. I didn't see people upset when IdrA picked scrap station possible the most imbalanced map for zerg in mlg d.c. Also he didn't abuse steppes with the tanks.
He asked first if it was ok to race switch and a vote was constructed. Him and I talked strategy for a long time just to understand and he said to me if they dont allow him to race switch, he would have played terran and hoped for no protoss. The vote was 12-5 in favor of switching races. He picked his main race vrs hp cause he know that hp could beat him zvz. ( I really wanted to see pvz here but w/e )
Same gay ass boring strat. First TvZ he bunker rushed into thor drop, Second TvZ he played defensive into tank thor into a 3-3 upgraded push when hp was at 1-0, Third he opened 2 proxi starport into banshee harass which caused terrible terrible damage (sniping some drones causing drones to not mine and sniping queens along with almost killing third. Same boring unit composition that every terran does tvz cause it works.
Also thors are OP, but I think NP would negate that because thors would wreck the terran army or the terran would kill the thors; hence less thors and winable. If they target the infestors then i dont know. Have to see it one of these days.
Also the casino thing yeaa that is upsetting.

So basically this just really reinforces the fact that rules have to be solidified before a tourney starts, though. I personally agree that the race switching is pretty lame, but I guess if it was put to vote, I can't really blame ajtls for taking advantage of it.
