Well, still not really the best choice. He's put 500/250 into that proxy stargate + voidray.
But he's playing his way out of it here, and that expansion is paying off.

it forces your opponent to waste quite the same amount of money in counters because he won't know if you will stick with it; also it pins the terran in the base and allows for a much earlier expansion
