Don't you think the time/date of the tournament is a bit inconvenient? I mean, noon on a wednesday... Most people will be either working or in school, right?

Whoops, I was looking at the wrong month of my calender >_<
With that being the case, I'm definitely interested in coming.

I'll be putting up some brackets and organizing this a bit more over the weekend. Been busy working late over the last couple days.
Should be a lot of fun!

Definitely interested.

The Amtrak Downeaster has stop in Wells, ME which is about 15 mins from Kittery, though.

If you have a place to stay in Boston Friday night, I might be able to give you a lift on my way from NYC.
|
This is going to be awesome! Thanks muzzy for getting it going =]
|
Changed the rules a bit and added some venue info to the thread. I clarified the map pool and changed the detail level from "High" to "Medium", to better serve as a middle ground, as many players prefer low detail settings.
|
Got a bunch of clarification questions. Sorry if its a lot.
Is this a guaranteed run regardless of show or is there even a 'required' number of players needed to show to cover the venue?
Is there a required finish time that the venue closes? What happens if the matches are not finished by that time? What happens if a match is running at closing time?
Will spectators be allowed at the venue without any intent to play? Will they need to pay any entrance fees?
How will the rules be enforced? You say 'No Macros' but will someone be watching at all times that nothing is set up or are Mice and Keyboards with extra buttons just not allowed?
What about internet connection? Can we run 2+ games[4+ connections] at once without issues? I understand its a 'Lan Center', but are you going to be the only people there?
How much time will players have to set up equipment? Will players that need to use CDs to install Mice/Keyboard/Headphone drivers be allowed to do-so? Will SC2 be pre-installed?
You made no mention of headphones, is there a reason behind that?
What level of availability of USB/PS2/Audio connections will players have? Don't want to show up with PS2 keyboard/mouse only to find you can't get behind the towers or not have enough USB slots to to use your Mouse, Keyboard and Headphones.
Will the monitors all be the same? Do you know the resolution? Will the towers all be the same?
Will anyone be casting/shoutcasting the matches via a stream or just inhouse projection? Will someone be shoutcasting those games? Is the projection room far enough away/sound proofed in some way that players wont be able to hear anything? Will the spectating room be viewed in Medium quality as well or High/Ultra?
Will replays be available to players directly after/during or hosted somewhere later?

No problem!
Is this a guaranteed run regardless of show or is there even a 'required' number of players needed to show to cover the venue?
Yep, sure is. I'd run it with as few as 8 people, but looking at the interest generated already, I highly doubt we'll have trouble filling the tournament by the time registration ends.
Is there a required finish time that the venue closes? What happens if the matches are not finished by that time? What happens if a match is running at closing time?
The venue is pretty lax about this kind of stuff. They host tournaments all the time for other games and teams routinely play into the very late (early?) AM hours.
Will spectators be allowed at the venue without any intent to play? Will they need to pay any entrance fees?
Yes, spectators would be allowed, no entrance fee as far as I know. Again, this place is pretty casual.
How will the rules be enforced? You say 'No Macros' but will someone be watching at all times that nothing is set up or are Mice and Keyboards with extra buttons just not allowed?
I will be watching over all matches, and will have help from some friends, so it would be pretty damn hard to sneak in macros without being noticed.
What about internet connection? Can we run 2+ games[4+ connections] at once without issues? I understand its a 'Lan Center', but are you going to be the only people there?
Again, shouldn't be a problem. I don't know the exact specs of their internet connection, but they have 16+ PCs and a handful of gaming consoles, and they haven't had trouble as far as I know.
How much time will players have to set up equipment? Will players that need to use CDs to install Mice/Keyboard/Headphone drivers be allowed to do-so? Will SC2 be pre-installed?
We won't be rushing anyone as long as they are ontime for their match. It's understood that it takes people a few minutes to setup their equipment the way they like. Also, you'll be able to adjust SC2 preferences, such as build grid, health bars, etc. As long as you're not taking an excessive amount of time trying to tweak every minor detail and get your mouse DPI absolutely perfect, you won't be hassled. If you need drivers installed, it shouldn't be a problem, but I'll get clarification on that and get back to you.
Headphones are available onsite, but bring your own if you'd like. I'm honestly not sure about the PS2 compatibility, but really, everyone should be using USB these days and expecting support for legacy devices is unreasonable. USB ports for keyboard/mouse will be available.
Will the monitors all be the same? Do you know the resolution? Will the towers all be the same?
There are a couple different monitor sizes in the center, I believe both 17" and 19", I am not sure of the resolution. We will make sure competitors are playing on the same size monitor/resolution.
There is no casting/shoutcasting planned. The projected game will be far enough from the matches that players will not be able to hear or observe anything, and of course we will be asking everyone (and monitoring) not to shout or give any input of any kind to the players. I suppose we could observe the game at any detail level, as long as the PC can handle it. The idea behind keeping the settings at "Medium" for the players is just a matter of balance. Still working on final details, but we may be able to have the matches played in a separate, isolated room from the rest of the center. I'll update the thread as I get more details.
Will replays be available to players directly after/during or hosted somewhere later?
I plan on saving replays after each game and will be posting them to the tournament bracket afterwards.

On August 16 2010 22:27 RyanRushia wrote: its best of 1 until finals? bummer Yup. This is the first SC2 tournament I've hosted and I don't want time to be too big of an issue. If things go smoothly, I'd consider a BO3 for future tournaments.
There are other stations available though, so anyone is free to stay and play casual matches together. The venue fee only covers the tournament, though, so if you stay and wish to play the hourly rate would apply (Which is $6/hr IIRC).

Confirmed and confirmed!
I'll announce a date when race picks must be finalized, most likely within the last week of registration. For now, just let me know via PM if you're switching races.
Also, I'm sure everyone knows this, but even if you're not a stellar player- Don't hesitate to sign up!
I'm a platinum player on a good day, and I know there are others entering that are not top of the diamond league. I just enjoy watching and playing SC2, and nothing quite compares to LAN gaming, so I'm more than willing to throw down $15 for a day of entertainment and a chance to promote StarCraft 2 in the area.

Oh and one thing I'd like to clarify incase anyone is wondering - I'm not picking and choosing who plays who. The system (challonge.com) automatically seeds based on the order in which players were added to the bracket.

is there anychacne we can get a link to the actual place that the LAN is being held at?

How are the restaurant and bar?
|
Ok, this is the link to the Play on Fun center. Some of the setup's have changed since these pictures but for the most part, everything is still the same. The restaurant is pretty damn good. The bar is what shines with 2.00 drafts and what not. There is a like 15 pool tables upstairs, batting cages outside, mini golf course outside, and a bunch of console's (ps3, xbox360, wii) setup on various projectors throughout the building. Hope to see you all there!

looks great! cant wait man
|
Is there a contingency plan if we somehow run past midnight? It seems like if we get a full 32 players, we could go over 12 hours.
|
We can play as late into the night as necessary. I don't anticipate it taking that long though, seeing as it's BO1 until the finals.

I've decided to make a slight change- The bracket you see now is just a listing of players. To avoid any potential complaints of unfairness, or people waiting to register until a certain time to try and get a match up they favor, I will be using the random seed function on the Challonge.com website.
Come September 23rd, when registration is closed, the random seed will be applied and the final bracket will be posted here in this thread.

Ok folks, since I can't find a decent poll website that includes multiple answer ability and isn't easily gamed (the one I checked could be re-voted by simply clearing a cookie...), I'm going to run the poll in a different way-
If you have a certain preference for maps, please PM me the 6 maps you'd prefer. The maps must be from the official 1v1 pool, which includes the following maps-
Blistering Sands Desert Oasis Scrap Station Steppes of War Xel'Naga Caverns Kulas Ravine Lost Temple Delta Quadrant Metalopolis
I will pick the top 6 maps based on votes. Again, if you don't care, you don't have to vote. Voting will close on the same day as registration, September 23rd.

Oh I see, you're right. The liquipedia page tends to lag behind this thread, I only update it every now and then. I'll work on it again tomorrow.

So glad I found this before it filled up. Put me down. My b.net name is CollinsAx. I like to play random, but if that's not allowed for the tournament I'll go with Terran. Also a friend of mine is interested in playing as well. I'll let you know shortly if he is in for sure.

Tournament is now filled.
If anyone would still like to enter, please post or PM and I'll add you to the reserve list. It's likely that a few folks will end up having to drop out over the coming weeks, so the sooner you put your name on the reserve, the more likely the chance you'll get in.
Also, on that note- If you can't make it, please let me know. It's a real shame when someone can't show for a tournament and nobody knows. Not only does it disrupt the tournament, but it denies the chance for someone else to enter.

Wait, didn't you originally say to send you the 6 you wanted?
Edit: Did you ever get the resolutions the games were going to be played at? I don't want to practice on widescreen for a month only to have my screen cut in half.

There are 8 maps. Sending me the two you don't want is the equivalent of sending me the six you do. Same end result, one way is less burdensome
Didn't get the exact resolution, but the monitors are 4:3 aspect ratio.

This is pretty much not true at all. I went to the all nighter NE lan the other night... got half way through 1 game on one of their computers and surrendered and went to my car and got my own. Playing one way for months especially at a high level and then it changing on you all of a sudden completely throws off your game. Just cuz you dont think something is a factor doesnt mean that it isnt.

I have to agree here - playing on 16:10 for years (yes, years, all games not just SC2) and then going back to a shitty 4:3 isnt going to help.
I will be dropping out of the tourney if the LAN center doesnt allow me to bring my own PC. I could have dealt with playing on medium (I play with everything on ultra), but losing the aspect ratio? Sorry, no can do.

Prolly gunna agree with this. Tbh dont even need my PC just my monitor/keyboard/mouse But i refuse to play on 4:3 in bo1 single elimination tournament. The odds are stacked against the best player actually winning just by having a format of random seeds/single elim/bo1 But you are making it worse by not allowing a simple 30 second monitor swap.
If its a lan center im sure they wouldnt rly care if things were swapped out real fast... someone is just being stubborn (im guessing you muzzy) I have a strange feeling if you posted a "poll" for this most people would agree and you seem to be all about polls big guy.

just be glad they sponsoring the event instead of whining about conditions, its a local LAN not some super event
i do agree with the "bo1 until finals" scheme though, should be bo3...
@catreina and mylife... and if your gonna threaten to dropout then please just do so someone else can play
|
I'm not up for drama in a tournament setting. If you don't like the specified rules and/or equipment, you are welcome to drop out. The reason we can't have people bringing their monitors is due to fairness- We need everyone playing at the same aspect ratio/resolution. It would be unfair if someone who brings their 24" widescreen gets to play on that, while the other player gets a 19" 4:3.
Trust me, I'd prefer a 16:10 setting too, that's what I play at. It's just not available currently. If conditions change and we are able to get in enough monitors of equal size/resolution at 16:10, I'd happily do so.
BO1 until finals is necessary for time constraints. There is a losers bracket, so you aren't disqualified for your first loss... this is standard tournament format. When we have 4 PCs alloted for tournament play and 32 players... once you factor in setup time for each person, it's going to be a long day. There is very little out there in the way of SC2 LAN tournaments to base things on. We don't really know how long it will take 32 people to play their matches. If it turns out to be faster, then in the future we can think about BO3.
Again to sum up- This is *not* a bring your own computer event and you *will* be bound to the settings dictated by the rules. If you can't or don't wish to comply, please let me know ASAP if you'll be dropping out as I have a reserve list of folks who want in.

Wasn't a threat, that would be rude. It was a statement of fact, and with muzzy's confirmation, I am indeed dropping.
Sorry, but playing on 4:3 monitors when flat-panels are < $150 each nowadays is just bad.
|
Hey Muzzy, I've got 2 1440 : 900 res [19 inch] monitors I would gladly bring for use in the tourny.
Both have HDMI and RGB inputs, but one is HP and the other is ASUS so they are not clones.
1440 : 900 is a really common sized monitor, so if we could get a few more people to bring tech, we should be able to fix this issue.
Edit: 1440 : 900 did some emoticon nonsense
|
Yea i mean arent widescreens the most common nowadayzz anyway? There shouldnt really be any reason why everyone cant chip in and each bring a wide screen monitor for playing on. I guess i understand your fairness issue but thats still a stupid reason to force everyone to play on ancient monitors. Btw ive got a 19" 1440 : 900 Monitor as well so thats 3. All we would need is one more.

I'm kind of curious how ryan and myself are going to be doing commentary for matches if you can't bring your own equip? Do they already have a comp/big screen/mic setup to do so?

From what I've seen on the center's site, its not going to be pretty.
There seems to one room with all the PCs in it and several smaller rooms that MIGHT have a projector in them. I would REALLY hope we could get permission to have someone bring a half-decent tower so spectated games can be in Ultra.
The room with computers, the projector here will be useless for casting:
![[image loading]](http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56/hasire/38049237.jpg)
The closest I could find to a room that would allow casting:
![[image loading]](http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56/hasire/38044832.jpg)
Unless the center has stuff they aren't showing, spectating is going to be a real pain.
|
commentating isnt the highest of priorities here imo, it was an idea i tossed out to muzzy but if it doesnt work out then it's not the biggest of concerns for me
|
Well yeah, but if you're doing ~64 matches in a day, 2 at a time, spectating needs to be a priority.
Especially with the number of TvTs we have, you could potentially go 2 hours without a game.
|
i mean the spectating he said will occur via a projected room so that is definitly going on.. but the whole commentating part isnt as necessary imo, but ill still gladly do it if its requested
|
Hmmm. From the looks of it, they have a laptop hooked up to that monitor. If SC2 can run on it, could at least run 1 spectator through it onto the big screen, but yeah, with how tight everyone is (think I saw 8 PCs in that little area), doing any commentary would be a real pain more so that people may hear the commentator. That being said I think just speccing that in another room would work. That bar does look enticing though.
|
Those pictures don't really give you an idea how we're going to have the tournament setup.
We are going to have two separate rooms setup with 2 PCs in each, so opponents will not be in the same room as one another. We are not using the standard setup they have for walk-in LAN players. This way there is no possible issue of cross talk between folks watching and spoiling the game.
For casting, you are more than welcome to bring your own computer, so casting can be in whatever detail your machine can handle. There are several projectors and large areas with couches/seating. I'm not concerned at all about space and play area.
We're paying $5 a head for as much time as we need. That's an extremely generous offer. Also, think about what you're going for- A day of StarCraft with Team Liquid members. It's supposed to be fun.
If you're going into this for the prize and thinking this is some sort of Intel sponsored event with a shiny stage, you're going to be disappointed.
I'll PM you about the screens, Hasire. I have a friend that might be able to furnish a screen as well. My only concern, as I mentioned, is that I want everyone playing at the same resolution.
|

Er Muzzy, wasn't it a bit quick to remove Catreina since the reason he dropped didn't turn out to be true? You lead him to believe no effort was going to be made to fix the issue and he got taunted into making a post saying he was leaving earlier than he actually needed to.
I would imagine with the new monitor situation he would still want to be a part of this.

I would imagine with the new monitor situation he would still want to be a part of this. We don't have confirmation of widescreen monitors yet. . You're volunteering to bring two of the same res, but I still need to work out the other two. While I would hope that we can get two more at 1440x990, I want to make sure before committing to that promise.
Nobody forced Catreina to leave... he said if he could not bring his own PC he would leave. Well, we certainly are not having a BYOC event, no matter how the monitor situation ends up.

Make MyLife play on a Nintendo DS screen. Damn guy.
|
Wow, what happened to the good vibe this thread had going? We've got a solid page and a half of pure negativity here. Cmon guys, the event is what it is and it's gonna be a hell of a lot of fun. I play on a little laptop screen at the lowest res and I still love the damn game and stay halfway competitive. If you're looking for a sponsored tourney with a big stage and ultra res then you're going to be hopping on a plane for it, paying $100 worth of entry fees, and you're gonna be facing all #1 diamond players.
If we've got widescreen monitors and high res, sweet. If we've got 13 inch CRTs, just as well. Let's just have some fun

Well, After reading these last 2 pages im kind of shocked. The pictures on the website, are VERY out of date. The LAN center is not set up like this and will be changed to make this tourney convenient as possible.
Monitor Issue...The problem with this is, if someone brings their monitor, and they get knocked out of a tourney. Are they going to want to sit around and wait for it to finish so they can get their equipment back? Most likely not.
BYOC - This is not even remotely an option for many reasons. Computer nerds have infected computers first off. Its a fact, and we don't need peoples computers infecting others. Second! Cheat's, macro's, anything that would not be legit. It would take so very much time to go through every persons computer to make sure none of this is present. At that rate, the tourney would last 2 days. If this has a good turnout and seems like something that we would like to do again in the future, then I will definitely speak to my boy who runs the place and have a BYOC weekend tourney event.
What im getting at is we cant have people playing mind games and threatening to leave the brackets cause they are not kosher with the equipment or the setup. I dont want to waste spots on the bracket for people who are willing to come and play no matter the setup. Since I will be there until the event is completely over, I would not mind bringing my 22` LG from home, not a problem. If we can turn up 3 others as well, then we will swap the monitors out.
Shoutcasting - You guys are more then welcome to bring your own computer's to do shoutcasting as your PC's would have no effect on the game play of the tourney. We have many projectors aimed at the walls that you can use.
ANY other questions, feel free to ask.
|

The point of the PC is for projection quality, not internet access, at least as far as I could tell.
Would rather have the games cast in the highest detail we can get since they will be blown up.

Ok great, so one more widescreen and we're all set...
Actually, I just realized- I could probably grab an old 22" I gave to my sister, 'cause she is out of the country until November... It displays at 1680x1050 native, though. I think Hasire said his does 1440x990. Do you know what resolution your 22" does Dread? It's not a big deal if 2 machines do 1440x990 and two do 1680x1050, as long as the opponents are playing at the same res.

I'm on 19", but as you said if its 2 and 2, we should be fine.
Edit: Most people aren't going to have an issue with 19 v 22 as long as they are both showing in 16 or close to it. The only issue anyone ever had was using 4:3 since SC2 is too generous with monitor fitting.

Yea Hasire said his were 19" not 22" guys. I also said i have a 19" 1440 : 900 So if we could get one more 1440 : 900 then everyone would be playing on the same monitors. I believe 19" 1440 : 900 are the monitors that all major companies are shipping with standard machines for the last year or so (like dell/hp etc) So im guessing someone out of the 30+ people going has one.

I plan on streaming and tbh we only need about 500kpbs each. In the Total Biscuit tutorial he says that is fine for good streaming.

Just want to say I am way stoked for the tournament. I'm looking back on the last few pages of comments and it sounds like you guys are doing a lot to help accommodate things and make this a better experience. Just want to say I appreciate it. I'm excited to play and I'll have fun, regardless of what it's on or how the setup goes and even if I lose my first two matches. I'm sure it will still be a fun experience.

I was just kidding, I'm not gonna medivac my vikings Maybe a mass scv drop though.... hmmm

I think she clearly states that she is angry about losing the aspect ratio... Im pretty sure just kicking her out of the tournament without asking her first was kind of a dick move. just open to a 64 person bracket? most likely wont get filled but then anyone who wants to can still play, and would re-admit catreina in now that the monitor issues are getting figured out

The actual intent of that post you quoted was because of the lack of widescreen support - I figure if a lan center doesnt have widescreen monitors, then their computers are likely garbage (read: over 2 years old) as well. I can deal with playing on lower quality settings. I cannot deal with playing on a shit 4:3 monitor.
In short, it was meant as a "If there are no decent monitors, then I wont play unless it is on my own pc" post.
MyLife - I can handle my own, and I willingly dropped because of the lack of widescreen monitors. Now, mind you, I -could- bring two 1440x900 resolution gateway monitors for use, but that would require that I stay the entire time, whether I was in or out.
I dunno, if resolutions on the video cards support widescreen (they are old computers I presume), then maybe I will ask to be re-listed. That would not likely be fair to the people who were waiting however.

I just read some of the posts about casting - how fast is the internet upload speed there? How many people are casting? How many computers will be used other than for the tournament?
Many people know my cast on Justin.TV - I can help with casting (actually casting or helping others) if I end up going/being readmitted. All depends on what is going on / up to Ryan/muzzy
|
The PCs aren't super high end, you are correct. The monitors are older than the PCs there, though.
I played some test games at mediums settings when I was last there and was watching the framerate counter the whole time... I'm really picky about good frames. On medium settings I never saw them dropping below 40FPS, even in large battles, which I consider to be acceptable. Usually the frame rate was much higher.
I don't mean to be hasty in dropping you, but like I said, I've got people eager to get in, so if someone tells me they want to leave I want to be fair to the people waiting.
From what I can gather, we almost certainly will be able to get wide screens in. We've got at least 4 confirmed now, so unless someone bringing them drops out, shouldn't be a problem. If you'd like Catreina I can put you back on the top of the reserve list so as soon as something opens you would be in.

So far Ryan/Drogith are doing casting, and I think Drogith is going to be setting up an internet stream.
For casting it's recommended you bring your own PC, but certainly if you're interested, send a PM to RyanRushia. Maybe you guys can share a PC for casting. I'm pretty much leaving all that up to him, as I don't know anything about that stuff.

40 fps for me would be icky, having been in CAL back in the day and noticing little things like going from 40fps to 45fps and 90ms to 120ms pings
Go ahead and put me back on the reserve list, but not at the top. I am still kind of skeptical about playing but if there is room I will go.

Oh come on, we could be playing this game on an abacus, everyone is in the same boat. If skill level is tied to your computer equipment then the gamer with the best budget would always win. Huk is rated as #1 or #2 on the american servers and I've been on his stream when he's talked about his computer setup. It's older than my LAST system, and he does just fine, clearly.
Muzzy, you shouldn't be hosting this tournament with less than the best. Doesn't Maine have some octo-core SLIed 52'' plasma screened systems somewhere? I really can't play without one, I'll just lose. It better glow blue and be water cooled too.

Edit: Removed stuff about Cat
Towards the 40 FPS on medium: We should just play on low. There is no reason to risk a big match stutter that screws someone up. The games will be cast on Ultra anyways, so it really wont effect watching.
You're trying to set up a first-time LAN here, don't try and force everything to work out a certain way, it will just lead to people getting frustrated with the whole thing and a terrible time being had by all, which is terrible.
Also, threatening to kick people really quickly after just disagreeing with over something fairly small is a bit of an over reaction. Remember this is supposed to be fun!

What I've come to realize is that you'll never please everyone.
If I went ahead and said "Ya, we're playing at low", you'd see complaints about how Low is unfair (see the epic thread right here on TL about the whole high/low debate). If I say "Let's play at medium" we get complaints that the framerate isn't high enough.
We'll play on medium and if it turns out to be a problem, we'll change it. I
I'd also like to go ahead and counter your point that anyone organizing this tournament is trying to "force" things in place. In fact, I feel quite the opposite. We're trying to accommodate as many requests as possible.
As far as kicking someone out- A StarCraft tournament isn't some sort of basic human right (I wish it were...), it's a personal event hosted in a private business. If I feel like someone is not cooperating, not following rules and/or causing trouble than I certainly can kick them out. I don't mind constructive feedback, but I don't care for straight up complaining with no offered help or solutions to the perceived problem.
This is something myself, and others, are putting a lot of time and effort into organizing. We shouldn't have to deal with negative attitudes souring the experience.

Ultra? I wish. I did upgrade my comp, but the vid card is good enough to watch on high. I may try to ramp it up to ultra tonight and see what kind of frames I get, but no guarantee.
Yes, I am setting up the stream I have through livestream and tl.net. For me, anyway, it seems to give a cleaner video output than justin or ustream.
Since monitors are being brought, you think I can borrow one of the LANs for casting. I run a 19" CRT from the stoneage and its a pain to lug around. I just want to let you guys know I am very excited about the potential matchups of some of these games. I see names of past winners in close brackets and it's very exciting.

It isnt about what the computers are "capable" of, it is about what you are "used to" using every day, every game, every match, every win and every loss.
I guarantee that if HuK went from lowest settings at 20 fps on a 4:3 to highest settings at 60fps on a 16:10 there would be skill issues. This isnt about the capabilites, it is about the change.
Like I said, the biggest issue for me would be the 4:3 aspect. I have been using widescreen monitors and 16:10 resolution since friggin 2004 at least. With the widescreen issues history (we have plenty of people offering to bring their own monitors to help out), the only issues would be quality/fps, which are guaranteed to make the people crying about them a target - myself included.

I did some tests last night and played a 2v2 on ultra settings. So casting as such should be no problem. Good news for all.

To make this a somewhat valuable post...
Due to uncertainty about the whole wide screen thing, I'd like to request that anyone who doesn't mind bringing their wide screen monitor, please do so. Even if you don't plan on staying all day, and even if we don't end up needing it, I'd rather have a surplus than not. Can't hurt to have extra monitors... worse thing that happens is you wasted a few minutes unhooking it and loading it up in your car.
From what I see so far, we'll have plenty, but again... I just want to be certain. Also, this way if anyone has a preference for playing on their own monitor, they can do so.
As always... if anyone has any concerns/questions/suggestions for the tournament, let me know!

So I've been doing some tweaking of settings for streaming and what not and we will be doing pretty good for the online stream. Good news about the projectors as well, I'll bring my speakers along so we can have sound but we'll have to do some A/V testing with the equipment once I get there. Again, settings on ultra are a GO and if my stream cuts out we can simply drop it to High which is plenty good for watching live quality.

I've looked for hotel rooms around Kittery and all seem pretty pricey ($150+). Anyone know of any hotels that would be cheaper but are still ok to stay in that are close? I have a friend in Boston I'm planning on staying with if I can't find a place, but I'd rather not have to drive the hour.

Hotels are definitely not 150 bucks. How far away do you live to need a hotel for the night? Look in Portsmouth/Dover/Somersworth all 3 are short drives from kittery and have hotels right off the highway, should be able to find one for under 100 bucks pretty easily.

I'm coming up from Connecticut, it's about a 3 hour drive. So it's not too bad but depending how late the tournament goes and if we want to do anything else in the area. Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look in those areas and see what's available.

Can anybody swing by Attleboro/Boston to pick me up? Attleboro is southern mass on border to RI. Boston is obvious. PM me!

I understand you guys are just looking for a back up plan but honestly. I wouldn't expect this tourney to run longer than one day. Id say it will be done by 10pm as long as we are able to get everything situated and the tourney actually starts at noon.
|
The concern is more for people don't want to wake up at 8 to have to drive home at midnight+ for 2hours.
|
-DONE- By that I mean we are on the calendar now. You can all graciously thank Manifesto7 now. It shows us on the 26th, but that is because of TL.net time. If you go to the actual calendar listing, it show local time for Saturday.
|
definitly check out Portsmouth/Seabrook NH for hotels... i know therse some marriott's and holiday inn that arent too expensive and within 30m inutes of kittery

Folks, if you're still interested in signing up, don't hesitate to add your name to the reserve list. I've got a few unclaimed spots, waiting on replies from our reservists, but more may open and other reservists may not reply, etc.
Can't hurt to put your name on the list!

Do you have an idea when maplist and brackets will be up?

We'll be starting at noon. If you think you'll be a bit late, let me know, and we can put your match towards the end of round 1.

I've posted the final map selection and the bracket. See the first post of the thread.
There are a couple spots on the bracket listed as "Reservist". I'm just waiting on our reserve list folks to reply to me so I can add them... if I don't hear back by the end of today, I'll open registration to fill the last two spots.
|
woo woo 2 days until the event! sooooooo pumped to meet everyone
|
Pretty exciting folks. Fingers crossed I don't lose in the first round! :D
|
Psyched for Saturday!
I have car space heading up from Boston. If anyone needs a lift, PM me.
|
So, I've got one spot open if anyone wants it. I'm still waiting on some reserve list folks to reply, but I can't wait forever. Please PM me if you want in!

There's a possibility of this. Have to do some talking at the LAN to set something up. You should show up anyway, it's always a blast and someone's car might break down, giving you a seat.
|
Oh man, I got swapped from a first round platinum Toss, someone I have a chance against, to a 1600 Zerg.
This is terrible.
|
Tomorrow guys! See you then. If you can, before you leave, please check the first post of this thread for any urgent last minute updates. I highly doubt we'll have any, but it's a good idea.
I'd also like to remind everyone that the LAN center has no widescreen monitors, so I'd advise you bring your own if you can. We should have plenty of volunteer monitors, but the more the better, just incase.

muzzy and/or dread, I'll be trying to arrive about 10 to make sure my comp is hooked up/adjusted right for the connection there.

Dread and I will be there around 10 as well, and RyanRushia is going to be showing up around the same time as well. Will give us plenty of time to setup and test the projectors and spectating area.

I'm the bald guy with the 'stache. I'm coming up from RI with my fiance. There's a 99.9% percent change we will get horribly, horribly lost. Please send help if you don't here from me within a week.
GODSPEED!

i see the brackets changed up a little. Are these the final brackets now?
|
On September 25 2010 12:01 hpTheGreat wrote: i see the brackets changed up a little. Are these the final brackets now? ya, final now. I had to move collinsax and shanedanger... the seed placed them against each other in round 1, which is silly because they are good friends (driving up together, in fact) and play together all the time.
Kind of a bummer to go to a tourney and play against the same person you play against every day.

Sorry I can't make it guys I had a family emergency this morning, been at ER since 6am :-/ sorry for any trouble my absence caused, I will be there for next tourney

Nice use of phoenix there by Ryan to nullify Bitter's collosus.

Drogith is a hero caster. 12 hour marathon session, wife's mad at him, he's yawning, the bar's closing, but he's soldiering on. Awesome.
|
haha Drogith is a good dude. Got quite a few drinks in him and now the bar closes GGGGGG. Worst part is he still has a hefty 45 min drive home i believe lol
|
grats to hpTheGreat. awesome games played by all. Thanks for casting Drogith.
|
grats to hpthegreat, and props to Drogith for casting for almost 13 hours straight, though I hope his wife doesn't divorce him.
|
Timon here,
GG's everyone.
Props to Drogith for casting, muzzy for organizing everything and making sure it ran smoothly, and everyone else for playing some kickass games.
Please feel free to add me. I'm always looking for practice games.

Here's the replay of the final game of the tournament, winner went home with $250.
|
Thanks to all! I'm too tired to write a long post now, but we had a lot of fun despite some little technical glitches. Many thanks to Drogith for his work casting, as well was RyanRushia... you guys are awesome.
Some great players showed up, more skill than I expected. Congrats to the winner, hpTheGreat, well deserved! Glad to see a fellow Zerg take the title :D Greenranger played extremely well, too, it was certainly a tough game to call.
hpTheGreat took 1st and $180 Greenranger took second and $60 RyanRushia took 3rd and $30

It was a long night but so worth it. I hope another one happens soon.

this was a BLAST! met a ton of local gamers and we all had fun for the entire duration we were there.... can't wait for the second one!
and congrats to HP and greenranger you guys had some epic games!
|
I'm going to see if I can't get a hold of most of the replays and post them soon. I was planning on grabbing them off the computers at the end of the day, but being that it was 1am and the LAN center staff as well as all of us were tired and ready to go, I decided to hold off I should be able to get them though, I'll let y'all know...

Thanks everyone for the compliments on casting and supporting me through the marathon. I have to give big props to muzzy for organizing and ryan & mylife for stepping in and casting for a brief while, allowing me to take a break and grab a few pints. I'd also like to thank JTWStephens leading lady for keeping in contact with everyone watching the stream, getting me everyone's name/codes, and in general just keeping me updated with expected matches and bracket development.
Congratulations to HPthegreat for winning the tournament and special thanks to his hype-man, the FlavaFlav of SC2 for keeping me amused throughout the tournament. GreenRanger(aka AlphaFuzzard) and everyone else did an excellent job playing and making this a great experience. I was able to save 21 replays that were cast and will be uploading them as a pack sometime this week. Next time I will be more on top of things with saving these files.
Lastly, the tournament is set to VOD on my stream so if you missed anything, you can check it out there, my wife didn't divorce me, and thank you to anyone that donated to me. You guys are the best.
(We hit over 300 viewers I hear!)

You know where they are on the hard drive, right? The replays I emailed to myself didn't work so if you get all the replays that would be awesome.
|

Ya, I know where they save. Do you know how long replays stay on the HD? I know that on the actual ingame list, they will be removed after a certain number of elapsed games if you don't specifically save them, but I thought I heard that they stay on the HD pretty much indefinitely. Is that true?

Had a blast. Many thanks to Muzzy for running the show, Drogith (and Ryan) for casting. Gratz to HP, Green and Ryan, but everyone was baller for showing up and being cool.
Looking forward to the next one (and officially volunteering here to help with day of administration, depending on the date).

Big thank you to all of you guys. That was a lot of work for a lot of people. Muzzy for leading this thing, Drogith for the marathon casting, all of the great competitors for traveling to make this a great competition. When we do this again Drogith definitely needs a PA, I loved listening and learning from the commentary.
Even though I got decimated in both my matches it was still awesome to get to play and watch so many great diamond players. I'm hoping what I learned there will help me finally break out of Platinum league.
So again, big thank you for all those that worked hard to put this together.

If you manually save the replay it will not be automatically deleted. If someone can get them all and put up a replay pack that would be awesome.
