Hey folks,

I can proudly announce our next GosuCup tournament Series with a prize pool of €1500 (app. $2000)

The first place winner will take home €900, €450 for the runner-up and €150 will go to the third place winner. There will be four qualification tournaments where the top two players advance to a final tournament to decide the winner.

Two GosuCups for the US server, and two for the European server. The first qualification cup will be held already this upcoming weekend, starting at 18:00 EDT for the US qualifiers, and 18:00 CET for the European qualifiers.

Each qualification tournament is open for 256 players, with the three first rounds being best of one, and from there all the games will be best of three, including the final.

We will provide streams of as many games as possible, but the tournament is open for other medias to cast as well, contact Marko@gosugamers.net if you're interested. All players should meet up in #GosuGamers.SC2 at Quakenet on IRC.

You guys should also hurry for the check-in, because with only 256 places it will be full real quick

The link to the actual news and the sign-ups:

I'm assuming you're only allowed to register for one of the qualifiers, is this correct?

you can register for every qualifier, but if you make it top2, so you're qualified for the top 8 tour, then you are not allowed to participate in the remaining ones

follow the link in the op, look at the schedule of the different qualifiers and on the right there should be big bold/caps links that say SIGN UPS. thats how you register and add identifier

I think what the OP means is there are 2 Gosucup Tournament for each server.
So this one is US server, may be the next one will be on EU so on so forth...
I dont think this is a cross realm tourney

yea during beta wasnt really an issue unless all of battle.net was lagging but ive talked to a few top players who are having same issues as me, it varies time to time but sometimes it can be EXTREMELY bad and 3-4 second delay on units

The US tournament starts August the 14th 18:00 EDT and 30 minute prior to that the confirmation time for the tournament starts, so 17:30 EDT you should be there to confirm your participation

im not really good on timezones it would be awesome if there was someone in this thread typing "tourny starts in 10 hours" then "tourny starts in 5 hours" then "tourny starts in 2 hours" then "30 minute confirmation time is now"

would be awesome if someone could do that. doesnt have to be gosuguys just anyone whos good with timezones do it pleaseeee

anyone out there can do it in this thread would help some ppl out i bet

I also cannot see brackets. Also the screen has reverted from the "waiting for player message" back to the "players are being seeded message."

This is the message I am getting now and I'm almost positive I successfully confirmed. Are you getting this?

"The players are currently being seeded by the tournament administrator. As soon as it is done the brackets will be available at this page after a refresh. This might take between one and 20 minutes depending on the size of the tournament. Thank you for your patience. "

Edit: Now the bracket is up, but my name is not included in it. However the status says "waiting for opponent, awaiting results from a match." But I'm not on the bracket at all?

i don't understand why all these tournaments have Bo1 until very late in tourney, it doesn't really support the strongest players to get in.
In order to move forward, we must rid ourselves of that which holds us back. Check out my stream and give me tips! twitch.tv/intotheskyy

wat a shit storm

i think TO's should start doing test runs and stuff to make sure they are prepared when the tournament actually begins, its ridiculous that most tournaments are actually eelayed like 1-2 hours because something messes up

That really blows, I wanted to play in this. There's not that many good players in it possibly due to technical problems, good chance the people who qualify will be a letdown. Not sure what was up with the confirmation, I wish they'd manually seed people who couldn't get it to work.

I still haven't shown up in the brackets, and admins aren't PMing back so I think it's time to go play some ladder =D

imo using IRC to communicate for the tournament is a bad idea, many people dont use IRC or even know how to use it, much less have the program already installed. having to do so JUST to play in a tournament is going to get alot less participants

i say this because it says that reporting via site is disabled

IRC is the best method to use until blizzard implements chat channels. If you've ever used the internet and don't know how to use IRC then...I don't know what to tell you. It's extremely simple.

Go here: http://webchat.quakenet.org/

msv beating huk 2-0 was such a funny series of games. Quick attack with marauders, then expand (on less than 20 probes), then make 5 barracks, make more marauders and marines.. then when the gas is piling up, just push out marines and make 4 starports pumping out banshees. Huk had no answer to this in either games..

Msv taking down the big names again eh?

This guy comes out of nowhere in one of the GosuCoaching Weeklies and 3-0's QXC with a completely unorthodox build. Now he's done the same to Huk.

Really makes you wonder.

msv is a French Canadian who practices often with European players, it's why he doesn't ladder very much.

I think MSV's builds are all very carefully crafted to hit specific timings - not much hand waving at all. This guy definitely knows his stuff, more so than almost all other players I've seen. Now, I'm not sure if his builds can/can't be improved on, but they seem to do a wonder on the existing strategies.

He did the same thing vs huks 1 base as he did when huk had his third up, both against robo and templar tech

If his build was timed at all he would have been switching addons etc, he obviously knew he was going to go for after he got his expansion but you're giving him too much credit to say he's hitting timings. He wasn't even controlling his banshees he just a-moved them. Huk lost because he played terrible

Wow, Morrow, + Show Spoiler +
how does this guy get up from 20 vs 34 scvs, with Emperor having tanks and banshees, while Morrow just mm. Very very resilient plays in their first game.

Huk had a chance to win the games i thought. I thought trading his army in the first game was a huge mistake. I just don't think it is ever good for a toss to trade armies. I also did not like the lack of scouting after losing the first obs. Anyway, it was an interesting set of games to watch.

Yea I don't mean the last GosuCoaching, sorry. It was one a while ago. I remember it clearly because everybody was in similar hysterics after Msv 3-0'd Qxc with a one Thor rush build.

By hitting timings, I mean he's hitting timings that he himself has aimed for, not timings targeted specifically towards Huk's build. If you'll notice, at one point in the early game of game 2 he was behind by like 8 SCVs to Huk's probes. I suspect he might've been cutting SCVs just to get that expo up. This sort of precision typically means he knows what the timings that he must hit to be safe and to be effective.

Yeah, he got the date wrong, but msv did actually 3-0 qxc in a Gosucoaching Weekly finals in the beta. It was number 4 or 5.

I'm pretty sure they are just labeled "NA" and "EU" because of the servers they are on... It has nothing to do with limiting the players by location.

because its open for everyone, US qualifier meaning that its played on the US servers and the time a bit more convenient for US players. and analogous case for the EU qualifiers.

Well, BigT is an official caster of the tournament. If BigT simply jumped in without an invite they'd have the right to boot him, but they set him as an official caster so...

He honestly shouldn't be allowed to cast tournaments when on shitty livestream, not to mention having prority over the official Ustream casters. GG should get rid of him for the finals.

That's GG's decision, not ours. I'd say they're using BigT because he has a lot of loyal viewers. More viewers is typically better for sponsors.

That's my point, livestream can't handle that many viewers so HuK vs Morrow was unwatchable for a lot of people. That's annoying since there was a stream that could handle it in the first game. Unfortunately that one got kicked out due to BigT being a friend to HuK.

its an issue of lag/delay, i said i had no problem but when it lags/delays then yea 1 streamer or 0 streamers are staying. watch these games live is a privilege dont feel so entitled

i will not sacrifice the quality of games just so they can watched live with tons of lag/delay

Without people watching there would be no tournament. Unless it's run by King Ansadi.

^ It depends on what the organizers want. TSL 2 was successful with only replay casting, and honestly live casting is a bit of a pain with Blizzard's net code, so yeah, I do think it's a privilege unless the masses refuse to watch replays, in which case the sponsors take precedence.

It's all about the sponsors, ultimately. We (the viewers) only matter insofar as we are able to influence the sponsors, since we don't have to pay a cent if we don't want to.

Good points. It's about the sponsors and the viewers.
Not about what Huk wants. It might be a privilege but a privilege provided by the sponsor and the organizers, not Huk, hence he has no right to make that call.

That's fine, but no one asked you to sacrifice anything. But when it lags and one stream has to go you kick out the official stream with the highest capacity in favor for your bud, thatäs just messed up. And what makes you think it's your call to begin with?

BigT was asked to leave by the organizers but didn't.

well like i have said before i have no problem streaming but when there is lag/delay i would rather be only 1 streamer (don't really need multiple streamers), at which point i was told that bigt was official streamer and the others were randoms who were lying.

try to look at it from a players perspective of getting mass spammed all the time from 20 different people wanting to cast the game and claiming to be this or that.

live streaming introduces so many problems, all tournaments should broadcast from replays a round behind the players.

honestly i have no idea how live streaming became the norm for these kinds of tournaments. god knows how many lag issues there have been and how many people have cheated off the stream.

There was one Bo3 in this tourney that everyone in my vent was pretty convinced the guy was being fed info from the stream. Would be nice if there was a delay on it at least. Knowing someone is faking an expo or switches tech after being scouted is pretty key.

live streaming introduces so many problems, all tournaments should broadcast from replays a round behind the players.

honestly i have no idea how live streaming became the norm for these kinds of tournaments. god knows how many lag issues there have been and how many people have cheated off the stream.

live casting is a standard for any sport, apart from something that is impossible to get live casted- i.e. rallying.

Was lastshadow always this good? Given all of the ridicule he's gotten here I thought the guy would be much worse.

I just hopped into the stream, was that his first game against Haypro?

He came back from a big difference. I'm surprised Haypro didn't have infestors out to deal with the MMM.
I enjoy watching more than playing.

Wow I thought Haypro had the game but I guess Zerg really is awful.

And yes, LS is very good. He is better than Kawaii at least from what is said.
I'm posting on twoplustwo because I have always been amazed at the level of talent that populates this site --- it's almost unparalleled on the Internet.

man it seems like these top zergs cant even touch LS's pure reaper strategy. They seem dumbfounded about what really to do against it. While watching, I noticed LS using his reapers in familiar spots over and over again on the maps. Knowing this, why wouldnt the zerg tech to banelings while researching burrow. Burrow 1-2 banelings in the spots that LS constantly abuses (the ramp area/side of the main) and just detonate them without unburrowing as he flies over top.

Lastshadow was actually quite a good BW player, he was just involved in a map-fixing scandal that made him seem much better than he was. But he always had the underlying mechanics to be a decent player. With the advent of SC2 and the much lower current skill ceiling, it's no surprise that he's a contender at fairly high levels.

Most streams aren't delayed. Over long, long casts where people don't refresh it begins to widen the gap though. I'm glad you're justifying the existence of possible cheating because people in other areas of competitions have done it. Do games have a little more interest when they're casted live? Yes, but it has even less of an impact when we can't see player/fan reaction because all we have are what the commentators choose to say or not say at the moment.

With a legitimate amount of money on the line in some cases, ways to prevent cheating (when it's extremely easy to do) should be taken. Also, match fixing and steroids both spurred investigations to punish and prevent it from happening; all you're suggesting it ignoring.

Well the russian streamers are most definitely running with delay, and i dont see what is stopping anyone else from running witha delay. Its a non-argument.

Just like BP's oil spill launched investigation. There is an illusion of integrity. There is nothing in way of prevetion, just an attempt at distancing.

I am not suggesting ignoring it. I am just saying there is no way around streaming it live. Think about how to make streams better for everyone not about reasons not to make a stream in the first place.

I specifically state that there should be a delay. That's all. All that's needed is for each and every streamer in serious tournaments to do so and it becomes a non-issue. Don't read into this like I'm trying to piss on the holy grail or dig up the remains of the virgin mary to desecrate. This isn't about BP, steroids, or chess. It's about a solution to cheating to appease players and viewers with the essential need for "live streams" to help increase viewership.

Well the problem is modern streaming technology is built around the idea that they deliver as little as a delay as possible. And I have talked to every important person in both Ustream and Livestream before and they cannot add one.

This is why we did the ITL GP off of replays.

Oh, I'm aware of the issue. There was a bunch of debate about it both in the HDH and many prior tournaments in the past. I'm not saying it's easy, and I honestly don't know if there's an easy way to do it with ustream/jtv/livestream. But, it's something that has to be figured out if people plan to use those services for serious streaming of live events. Until then, as you came to the same conclusion, replays are the only safe way to do them.

Further, casting off of replays has fewer hiccups caused by caster/player/obs drama or delays for various reasons. Gives further credence to why iccup has their shit together.

Yea, my opponent had no identifier information in their name or their profile, so I waited for them to contact me, but instead they just reported a ff win and got moved on in the brackets.

Yea, my opponent had no identifier information in their name or their profile, so I waited for them to contact me, but instead they just reported a ff win and got moved on in the brackets.

This is not what happened and I hope this is just a big misunderstanding.

Your opponent was on IRC and the website and in game. You were not on bnet and he messaged you through the site and waited for you. Because he did not get any contact from you and you did not log onto bnet he had to receive a forfeit win because those are the rules and the tournament can not be delayed too long. He waited for 10-15 minutes but the rules of the tourney are the rules of the tourney.

this is the exact bullshit people tried to do to ls, and its not going to fly with yosh.

he NEVER hacked. the cheating was all circumstancial, it could never be 100% proven.
he is the most mannered player ever, and anyone that knew he from sc1 revered him as one of the best mechnical Terrans the foreign scene had ever seen.

stops spreading lies, especially when you know nothing.

My round 2 opponent got an admin win and was already playing his next game before I knew. I finished my first game very quickly so I thought I had tons of time, but apparently 18:20 was "too late" for 2nd game of tourney that started at 18:00.. even though most people were still arranging games for round 1 and 2 at that time...

Such a badly run tournament.
