Hello, TeamLiquid ! I'm going to be hosting the third Open Wolf Cup on 1 August 2010. This tournament is open to all players, regardless of rank/ladder standing. It will take place on the US servers (sorry EU/Asia, blame Blizzard) and will have a prize pool (TBA).
If you are interested in taking part in this open tournament, email verdruss@gmail.com with your character name you will use when the game is launched, race, and realID email. If you don't want to email me, feel free to PM me instead. Alternatively, you could post your information in the thread, but that's harder to keep track of (and you don't want to get misplaced).The tournament will have 64 players, but continue to sign up, as last tournament we had about ten or fifteen backups needed. Keep watching this thread, as it will be updated with important information very regularly.

I have a list of all noshows from the first two OWCs and will continue to keep a list. If a player does not show up three times, they will never be allowed to participate in my tournaments again. So, before contacting me to be put on the list, PLEASE check your schedule and also check the tournament procedures.

However, there is still a possibility that you will be able to play if you show up on time. If you are a selected backup, when you join the IRC, make your nickname with a backup tag (ex: smith_backup). If you want to play, but aren't selected as a backup, make your nickname with an alternate tag (ex: smith_alt). Alternates are less likely to show up than actual tournament participants, so if you really want to play, it can't hurt to show up.

+ Show Spoiler +Until the semifinals, this tournament will be played in single-elimination rounds. At the semifinals, a best-of-three will be played, and the finals will be a best-of-five set. Many players will probably disagree with this, but it's for the sake of time. Unfortunately this tournament would be FAR too long if the sets were longer for elimination. If a player fails to show up for his match, he will lose by default (as of now). Future tournaments will be structured differently, especially invitationals.
In the single-elimination rounds, the maps available will be Lost Temple, Steppes of War, and Blistering Sands. Both players can eliminate one map, and the remaining map will be played. The higher-ranked player eliminates first. As for the semifinals and finals, the maps available will be Lost Temple, Steppes of War, Scrap Station, Metalopolis, and Kulas Ravine. Both players can eliminate two maps from that list. Every time a player loses, they will be able to pick the next map to be played.
This tournament will be race-restricting, so once you pick a race, you cannot swap during the tournament. However, if you'd like to change races before the tournament begins, contact me and let me know.

+ Show Spoiler +Essentially, at 2:30 PM EST, ALL players MUST join my IRC channel (see http://thepassingshadow.com/IRC_Chat.html ). Players will use their exact character name as their nickname in IRC (put an underscore afterwards if there are problems with the nick being taken, which can sometimes happen with connection errors). The bracket will be posted so that players can see who their first opponents are. Once in IRC, players should find their opponents and PM them (/msg <username> <message> ) and start sending realID information so that they can add each other as friends. After that, the players should enter a party with one another, do map eliminations to decide which map they will be playing on (see map rules below), and then wait for me to tell everyone to begin their first match (will happen around 3 PM EST). What happens if your opponent does not show up ? PM me in IRC letting me know, and I will either replace your opponent with someone on the waiting list or let you know that you will receive a lucky free win (bye) and will wait for the second round to begin. After I announce in IRC to begin, all 32 parties will play their first game. Casters will begin casting some of these games. Whenever someone finishes their first game, the WINNER will PM me on IRC, specifying both who won and who lost. Once all groups of players have sent me the winners and losers, and EVERY game of the first round is finished, the second bracket will be posted and players will once again PM each other with realIDs and join parties. Once everyone appears to be set up, the second round will begin, and once again, the WINNER will PM me on IRC with both the winner and the loser. This will repeat until the semifinals. The first two players I choose to commentate will play first, and I will add them as realID friends, and invite them to my party. In party chat, map will be decided, and the first game will begin, and I will commentate. The round will be a best out of three with counter-picks for maps, and then the next players will play. After that, the two finalists will choose maps again, and the same procedure will take place with me commentating, except with a best of five. Afterwards, the winner will be announced and everyone will be free to ask for rematches, etcetera etcetera, ask me questions in chat. What happens in a dispute over who won the match ? I will add one of the players' realIDs, and look at match history. If there is a further dispute, I will ask for the replay file.

Awsome tournament ! The Wolf Cup II was so much fun can't wait for the 3rd edition. This is really a nice little tournament to meet new people, friendly atmosphere, no stress and great games !

Probably needs some more testing on SC2. Not to many people have played it. Just get some people you know and do a bunch of games on it. Try and see if you can find any blatant abuse that happens in SC2 on that map.

I haven't posted the names yet because I have like 120+ emails to go through o_o but basically, a lot of people are going to have to wait until next time or show up as backups.
Looks like people don't watch Match Point in; please further discuss this. I'm merely trying to improve the map pool. To be honest, we don't know if Blizzard will implement further maps into the release or not and I'm just trying to 'diversify' here.

That's from a Bay Area LAN tourney, but basically, I'm looking for a similar design with of course colours that better fit the OWCs. You can put whatever text you want on them and I'll let you know what to put if I like your design.
I guess you could call this a 'contest'. Whoever submits the best design will earn a spot in all future OWCs. That being said, if only one person submits a terrible design, you won't earn the spot. So submit some cool stuff, guys.

Maybe play around with the colours a little, though. iEchoic's white "Wolf Cup" doesn't show very well and the trophy doesn't stand out very nicely either simply because it's hard to see with the grey.
As for yours, Dusk, it looks pretty nice, but for some reason the words don't stand out to me as well as they might. Maybe we don't need "Wolf Cup" on the side, but that's up to you guys. Also the 'cup' isn't necessary for these either, really. Just some suggestions to think about.
Maybe work on your designs a bit ?

I like all of these, actually. I really like the middle one because it seems like it's on fabric or something, but the others look great as well.
You guys are all making such amazing stuff that I might bounce around and use different banners for different cups or something. It's so hard to even decide which ones I like best.

I really like the middle one because it seems like it's on fabric or something, but the others look great as well. You guys are all making such amazing stuff that I might bounce around and use different banners for different cups or something. It's so hard to even decide which ones I like best.

Ok I revamped mine a bit. I used the same wolf as junk and I used the SC II font in everything. Also the words are really easy to change so don't worry about what they say, if you wanted me to make ones that said replay, when, where, how or whatever its an easy fix.

As a fellow contest enter-er i hesitate to offer advice but personally, though I really like your designs, I feel that unless the OP were to switch to the main (+ Show Spoiler +) banner of yours (which would be weird at this particular point in time) they don't theme well the banner on the OP.

anyone want to get together on release day and train with me for this. pretty much our practice group would address PvT (probably most common MU) and TvT and PvP. the metagame was very dynamic at phase 2 and hopefully the few days prior our practice group could help flesh out some good BO's and strategies. Ah, so close, 2 votes. I will admit that I rather liked PLxDratewka's design alot though. Also, feel free to pm me or email me if you want to use my design sometime. Hey Wolf, the OP looks great. However, the banners are larger than the forum allows and so it displays this annoying yellow border around them. I would suggest making them slightly smaller to make that border go away.

Well on the image info description it says "728px × 60px (scaled to 591px × 49px)" So my guess would be that if you set the size around the 591 by 49 it won't make the border on it.

All casters need to make sure to relay their stream as an event during the tournament.
Keep in mind also that since we now are a listed event, the tournament will start immediately at 3 PM EDT (0400 KST). If you are late, you lose. You will be replaced.

BigT is an amazing guy, and he's also a smart player. He doesn't pretend to be better than he is, but he is a very good diamond player. He's funny, he has good insight, and he also casts his own games as he plays them.
He wasn't worrying about his viewer count, but a lot of people (including myself) really enjoy watching his stream - nothing against any other streamers but it's like a brand - if you're comfortable with it, you wouldn't want to switch. So he did what his viewers wanted him to do, which was to continue to cast. He asked why he couldn't cast, on behalf of his viewers. He's not spiteful or anything. He likes what he does, and he listens to what his viewers want.
Not saying that the censorship was a right or wrong decision, I won't even go into that - but don't judge anyone if you don't know them.

While I agree that the blame wasn't entirely on BigT, frankly, he did lose his cool a bit after they refused to invite him to obs. I think, at the end of the day, both casters could have handled the situation more professionally than they did.

The problem is , this was Wolf's tournament , if he wants to cast it himself, he has every right. BigT should have been manner about it and went with the wishes of the tournament host. He just approached this whole thing wrongly.

Here's how I feel about the BigT situation:
It's my fault for not being very clear about how OWCs' casts are done. In the tournament procedures, I do sort of outline exactly how the casts are done, but those procedures were written for the original OWC and were only slightly modified for this one. If you'd like to cast my tournament, I would like to be contacted about it first. I'll try to me clearer and more organised in the future about this. I take responsibility for this.
Someone repeatedly asking me, while I'm trying to run a tournament, in a lobby chat, if someone ELSE can cast the game, is not the way to go about things. Someone wanting to cast a game needs to contact me directly. There are several ways of going about this, from PMing me to messaging me in-game, to asking me directly in my stream chat, IRC chat, or even by email. I love to have people cover my tournaments; it makes me feel important, to be honest. But I don't like when people stream my stream within theirs. That simply deteriorates the quality of my event. Especially if 400+ people could be watching a higher-quality cast. That means several people are hearing about an event, and happening to click a stream, to find terrible quality. That makes me unhappy. When a streamer listed for an event does something like that, it makes the event look bad, and it doesn't bode well for the streamer either. It makes them look silly. I did not myself see BigT ask for money. I don't know if I should believe that he did, as others have said, but using my event to ask for money while streaming MY stream is very disappointing and is, in my opinion, very unprofessional. Especially because these tournaments are not about the money. OWCs are supposed to be all about community fun.
BigT is not a bad caster; in fact, I like his casting. I've been watching him every now and then ever since phase one ended. I don't have a problem with BigT at all, and I want to make sure people know that. I know he really wanted to cover this event. I only wish he had contacted me about it personally so that I could speak with him directly about it, rather than us just indirectly speaking.
So, I'd rather this thread not be about this drama and instead just to be about discussion of this tournament! So please don't mention the BigT stuff anymore, okay ? And please don't say bad things about him. He's a cool guy. These are all of my thoughts on the matter.
