There has been only 7 teams to even try and do their matches only 4 have actually even played their games and the other 3 couldn't even get in contact with their opponents... And I feel a full 48 hours is more than generous amount of time to meet up with your opponent that should only have a max of a 4 hour time zone difference (NA tournament).
The tournament failing due to inactivity of it's players, I don't see it being my fault at all.. I will take the blame for maybe not setting it up good enough, maybe using the emails was a really bad idea.
I'm going to wait for the release of the retail version of SC2 and do a 64 team tournament in hopes that at least 32 teams will participate and I would still be happy with a 50% turn out to give out a prize. Also I will let people sign up with their b.net id's because for other tournaments that seems to work out better.
The first 32 people that signed up were sent an email to confirm they could make the time and dates set, anyone who didn't email me back was replaced by a team in the alternative list even then I'm very sorry that as many people signed up for this tournament and wanted to play in it... barely anyone even tried to play in it...

This is the first ever 2v2 Starcraft 2 tournament. Also Clan TTG's first ever tournament but hopefully not the last.

The way binary beast worked is it would only let me show one email (of the team) per slot without having to click on it first, so you'll have to search for your email and if you don't find it search for your partners email.

Agreed. I'd wait till more information before you start anything. Phase two might be really similar or really different. I'd wait till you have more details about that before you try running a tournament for it

I'm confused, what is there to wait for besides a date and time? The game will have 2v2 similar or not.
But as to why is because I would like to actually fill up the brackets before it starts.

The reason it's a good idea to wait to announce this is because the thread could be forgotton, and you will have to bump it for people to re see it , when all in all you can just wait untill phase 2 starts to announce this, and I'm sure it would grab alot more peoples attention, since sc2 isn't even up now ( and won't be for about 3-4 weeks) -.-

I don't think that the sc2 servers being down affect the amount of people viewing this forum. And I would normally agree with you if it were a 1v1 tournament. It's a little harder and takes awhile longer to get enough participants to get a 2v2 going.

I agree with you nick if everyone participant was from TL... I'll definitely say the majority has come from TL but I know of 5 people at least off the top of my head that don't have TL accounts.
I'm learning though it's my first tournament.
This tournament is starting to get really close to filling up. I'd i say personally that's a big something to be accomplished. This is the first 2v2 tournament done and I have really began to realize why. If I would of made this a 1v1 tournament it would of been filled up weeks ago. It would seem 2v2 just isn't as popular at all to play but I'm sure many many many people will want to watch the VoD's of this tournament. Just my opinion though...
But I'm still excited to get this rolling none the less as I love 2v2

How about allowing people to sign up on either site and just keeping a carbon copy of your bracketing and signup lists on the original post of this forum as well?
That would be much more convenient for those of us that only use the teamliquid forums, and I feel it wouldn't be too much work to copy paste info to this post after updating the one on your site.
I think this would make your tournament a much more attractive thing. And please in the future continue to do 2vs2 tournaments as well, they are just sooo attractive to me because there are so few of them. With a couple more sponsers and a larger prize pool you'll easily pull in many of the top players, and i'm sure those things will come with time.
Edit: Actually, i think you'd get more entrants if you had all the info in an organized fashion on the front page here. For examples look at the other tournys in this subforum. Many people probably take a look in here and are too lazy to go to a new site.

Please note that if you didn't place your email there's real no guarantee that you can be relied on being contacted via sc2. We know for a fact that b.net emails will still be a way of contact via real id but we have no idea if anyone is going to be able to have the regular ID they are posting here or at clan ttg.
If you feel uncomfortable posting it on the forum send me a pm. Once phase 2 goes live I don't see nothing wrong with updating the bracket information with everyone's ID's that b.net 2.0(updated) hands out... Because once it goes live i am going to have a period where everyone will have to report if they will make the date/time of the tournament.
I will soon have to start the alternative list, which will replace the people that can't report or can't make the date/time.

I guess when this all comes down to it, it's my fault for not doing it better... but the directions are clear... binary beast would only let me put 1 email per slot but each slot is a team, just 1 email from the team... for the 99th time i've stated this...
The rules are also in the OP, Lost Temple then loser picks.
This thing looks like it's falling apart fast and if we can't get at least 8 teams to do their matches by midnight tonight it's a wrap sorry guys.

lol make up your mind good sir, many of us were looking forward to this and you shouldn't be advertising tournaments if you're not gonna follow through, its very unprofessional to offer a prize, generating advertisement for your team and website, and then canceling the tournament.
On a positive note, you were doing a great job at trying to confirm people by emails and so on,up until now I thought this was one of the better run tournaments, I understand how you feel, but stuff like this happens, you should be ready for it or NOT offer prizes.

I let this ride out until now in hopes to see if more people were going to play their matches. Thanks for trying, but the main problems were because of downtime(dont start a tourney if the game isnt being played) and sure the first 32 people to sign up works, but you prolly got alot of makeshift teams just trying to get in for 100 bucks, hard to tell with emails, but I dont reconize most if any of the teams playing.

Don't feel bad about this tournament not working out. There were a lot of factors involved, including beta downtime. Organising a tournament with that many teams is also difficult to maintain. Just think about what went wrong exactly and try to improve upon it next time.

Well you can ask all the other people that got a email confirmation if it was a lie. If you were on the alternative list you didn't get one which was already stated.
Thank you for the feedback shadow. I was hoping that just the excitement alone about phase 2 and the tournament was going to waive the fact the dates were created on a very short notice. Which I do believe was the main problem. To do this again after release with dates set up way in advanced and being able to use your sc2 character ID will make this successful the next time around. (Hopefully lol)

Biggest problem with this tournament in my eyes was the fact that you let people register without a teammate - thus creating more work for you and making people less likely to show up for their 'team'.
Also, since binarybeast only let you post 1 email per team you should have:
- made each team choose a captain and a team name
- Only list the captain's email/name or team name in the bracket (like you would see in a 1v1)
- Not make list opposing teams so that they appear to be on the same team (I'm not sure if this was the case but it seemed like a lot of people thought they were being grouped with people they didn't sign up with)
Anyway, sorry to see this fell through but there's always something to learn from these types of situations. Better luck next time =D

I'm sorry, but if you can't get 7 teams to play why do you think you will succeed in getting 64 teams to play? It's easy to blame the players for being inactive, but it's your job to have a backup plan.
I think your idea was pretty good, but not going through with it won't give you much credibility for next time
