THE NEXT STEP

From here I will be releasing a bracket next weekend to give players 1 week to get in touch with their opponent and get in some cheeky practice. I will make a separate thread for the brackets.

The process by which I will form brackets is as follows:

Four groups of 16 players will be isolated and I will try to ensure a roughly even spread of states/countries and races as possible. In each of these groups will be two 'seeded' players, such that #1 and #8 seed are in a group, #2 and #7 are in another group, etc. The seeds will be determined by a combination of 'ELO' rating and winning % as by starcraftrankings.com at the time. I know this is not 100% accurate but without previous tournaments there is no way to seed you guys.

These 4 'groups' will simply form parts of the bracket in the Round of 16, and matchups inside these brackets will be randomly distributed in a normal double elimination bracket format - with the exception that the seeds will be on opposite sides.

Additional names will be added to the backup list. Additionally the last 6 people to sign up may be relegated to the reserve list if the players who were not 100% on whether they could make it inform me that they 100% can. However, you will move to 'first in line' in the reserve list if this happens to you - in order of when you signed up.

Around the same time I set up a bracket I will be looking for casters. I am undecided whether I will just get RO16 or RO8 onwards cast live, one game at a time; or whether to have several streams covering 2 or 3 different matches at the time; or whether to have one or two streams going right from the start following the notable players like they do for ZOTAC. Feedback encouraged!

Finally some rules to point out

No BM, of course. In-game chat is allowed but if you feel someone is being overly offensive please report it.
You must be a resident OR citizen of Australia or New Zealand. Remember to let me know if you are an ex-pat living overseas just so there is no confusion or accusations later on.
I will try to deal with problems and formulate the brackets as fairly as possible so please don't complain if you feel you were hard done by - I hold no biases here and anything that seems unfair I promise is completely random.
Payment of the prize will be by Direct Deposit (preferred) but if really necessary I can use PayPal, though this technology hates me and I never really got the hang of it so it's not my fault if all the prizemoney vanishes into the aether T_T Also I guess it can be cash if you live near Newtown.
In the case of technical issues or other postponements I will nominate some 'backup dates' that work for the casters as well as the players and the games must be completed within these timeslots if rescheduling is required.
Will add more as I think of them...

I'd be careful to keep having a close look at the ladder deL, cos if it resets(which is schedualed for very soon) it's going to be real dodgy seeds if the ladder has only been going again for 1 or 2 days. So i'd maybe take a list now just as a backup incase it resets?

Since I am a bronze league player who has no chance of getting past round 1, I (causticsoda.causticsoda) will give up my slot to any platinum ranked player on the waiting list.

Also, none of the groups have more than 1 of a certain race or location different to another. The location distribution ignores seeds, though.

That's the point of an open tournament. Otherwise it would be an invitational! You might come up against another bronze leaguer first round

However if you really would prefer to have a Platinum player in there Wretched who was on the unconfirmed list is interested in playing - he would have been a seed if he were sooner

so he would replace you.
