http://starcraftrankings.com/ USA LzGamer is #7 on the ladder and has had really good results lately (62% win) CauthonLuck is #9 on the ladder and has had good results such as winning back to back MLG showmatches (77% win) QXC is #25 and beat beat louder, incontrol and LzGamer in Smuft's tournament, (70% win)
Canada Huk is #1 on ladder, with a 73% win Slush is #8 on ladder with impressive results lately + on winning team of TST cup 1 and 2 (72% win) Attero is #19 on ladder, highest rated random, with a 67% win, and has had decent results lately
Of all the players you recognize, lz, has the lowest win percent, which of course is not everything and I factor in place + results lately. It's not perfect as obviously the scene is still shaping up and players skill levels can change. There is no perfect way of picking players other than trying to factor in as many variables as possible and make intelligent choices. Seven out of the eight seeded teams into TST cup 2 advanced past their first match, and the team that didn't was ranked 8th, and played the 9th ranked team so my judgment is somewhat accurate. It's hard though as some players, incontrol for instance don't mass game on the ladder, but have high win rate, and respectable ratings. It's really not easy to judge.
Yes though, my top 6 is only a best guess, hopefully it will lead to the best games possible.

this is completly wrong. rofl you have to watch the number of games and the ladder points to see the quality of the opponents.

My point is I would rather pick someone with 200-100 than someone with 250-150.

How was that your point when you didn't mention it at all in your original post and instead said that it was more impressive to see some form of win rate, where win rate is totally reliant on who you're playing and how often

I've never seen somebody whine so much publicly about being included. If you're as good as you say you are, recognition will come eventually... you don't need to self promote yourself and complain in every event thread about "WHAAAAAAAAAAA INCLUDE ME MY ELO IS 1700" ... seriously it's annoying as hell to read.
It took me almost a year to take over leadership of USA B (in BW) and I got it because I worked consistently to show I deserved it. People who are already established top players like Machine, Louder, LzGaMeR, etc... didn't post pictures of their ladder rank and ask to be included in tournaments, they eventually got recognized and once they did their inclusion in events became self perpetuating.
This is not a "usa A team / Canadian A team" or anything official, just 6 of the top players invited for a showmatch. The game is way too new to really say "these are the top 6". I just tried to pick what I think are the best 6, and I probably will miss some deserving players, it's bound to happen. The game is still just beginning, there are no prizes, and in the future if you are that good, you will get invited to the bigger and bigger events as the game grows. This is a for fun event with the single purpose of being entertaining. Just be excited that this game has more tournaments/events in beta than most games have in retail, not to mention the best pool of commentators (and community site, tl.net)
I participated in one of the first team canada vs team usa tournament. It was right when brood war was released. IIRC, team Canada was X'ds~Fallen(me, as T), X'ds~Grrrr(P) and kain-the-feared(Z). Team USA was Maynard(Z), Pillars(P) and D22-soso(T).
Canada went 3-6, winning all the mirror matches and losing everything else
done with nostalgia~
Good luck to team Canada! drop me a pm if you need another Canadian player.

May I suggest Winners League format for this tournament? A lot of these players are very good, but I believe certain players are better in certain matchups - and since it looks like the event will be held as a showmatch, I think WL will be the best choice in format for the highest quality games.
And thx for the support guys =) I would like to participate as well hehe... watch out, sheth
Dude, USA is gonna dominate. Canada doesn't have very many good players right now. I guess since its a winner's league format something could happen but other than that team USA is just loaded. Btw, I would rather see Lzgamer than QXC in my opinion. Just fanboyism and I think that it will add some stardom to the league.

You are not going to fit in with the current top American SC players. We have waaaaay more pride than that. At least try to be a little American. In fact, just tell Xeris to go fuck himself (every top American player has said that at some point, haven't we? <3 Xeris ) and go on about how great you are. That's what me and IdrA would do and we're the best.

Canada is stacked and the clear favorite (not that USA doesn't have a chance), I would put it around 40/60 or 45/55 in favor of Canada.
but Yeah I wish I could have invited more players, but I tried my best to get the highest skill possible through both recent results and ladder scores. I didn't just go for names people recognize obviously.

Hehe Kiwikaki/Durr/Huk are all good players, I have confidence in our team =)
I especially look forward to watching Kiwi's games, his style is one of the more unique ones I've seen.
Go Canada! Both teams have a scary lineup. This is going to be a really fun event to watch. I especially like CauthonLuck but since he's on Team USA I will sadly have to cheer against him.
Come on let's be serious here USA/Canada doesn't know what this "futball" is.
p.s- canada so proud it won the only sport that everyone and there mother is born and raised playing. We in America are like, ya we'll play it casually and still almost beat those fur underwear wearin', horseback ridin', canadian bacon eatin canucks.

Fact there are more Hockey fans in the US than Canada's population. =)
On April 10 2010 01:52 tonight wrote: Where'd you dig that up from? Sounds like bull to me.
Considering the US has roughly 10 times the population of Canada, if 1/10 people in the US are hockey fans, they'll be even. 1/10 seems pretty low considering the amount of NHL teams in the US.
That aside, I think Canada has a slight edge in this match, although qxc and LZ are pretty ballin.
anyway. just some preliminary info about the format.
Rise has 3 1/2 hours to cast max. So it will work like this. I will pick 6 maps, the teams will each pick which players they want for each map, and we will no matter what play all 6 of these matches. Depending how long these take, we could switch the event to winner's league, with winners playing winners until one team is eliminated(best of 11), or end it with a pro league style score (best of 7). This decision will be made based entirely on time restrictions because if we have 30 minute avg games, 6-7 games will be great, but if we have 10 minute games, and only 1-2 players left on a team, Winners league would be the better format to decide winner.
I hope everyone likes this format, and if anyone has any objections please make them now

anyway the opening post is updated with the lineups + maps and cleaned up a bit. The lineup and map order was all done completely random using random.org.
Note all 6 games will be played no matter what. The Ace will only be played if it is 3:3 or by popular demand.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. PDT and EDT are in use right now, not PST and EST. If you were right, then this event would be held at 5:30pm/8:30pm, which is quite confusing.

I think QXC won, the whole game wasn't shown but it was pretty obvious from what was shown with a 10 kill hellion by QXC and just 1 banshee and some scvs for Durrrr.
I believe the vods will be uploaded to rise's youtube in HD, not 100% sure if it will work, but he should be recording with fraps. Otherwise his livestream will have it on the on demand.
I'm from the USA, and I love some good natured shit talking and Canada bashing, but damn Rise, needs to do a little more commentating and little less stand up comedy. It's funny the first dozen times, but it gets old real fast.
Really good idea for a series of games. Hope we can get a little more commentating next time around.
Not to take away from your Zerg, but Kaki and Huk are monsters right now. Facts.
Here's another fact: your Zerg is top five in the States atm. Happy now?
If I were the States I'd throw Incontrol back out there to redeem himself. Protoss versus Protoss is their best shot. I wouldn't send out qxc (too predictable, but he has the skills). Zelniq would be another good choice.
Kaki is the obvious choice for team Canada with no Huk.

Yeah sheth to be honest almost holding off an attack for about FIVE MINUTES with like 1600 minerals in the bank, heh, you could have crushed it if you were a bit more aware of your drone count Wasn't as much of a rape as it seemed before rise pointed out your mineral count.

aware of drone count why? what does that mean? he needed more larva. that was all.
I would like to see a more competitive Canada vs US match up, with all the good players. Team USA there was unreal, but Team canada had some pretty tough matchups...
How about something like
Team USA - QXC, Sheth, Incontrol, Cauthonluck
Team Canada - Huk, Slush, Kiwikaki, Drewbie
Seems to me that would be way more competitive. (the more players you have, the less competitive it gets as Canada doesnt really have any strong players outside of that. While the US has many many more. Maybe add Attero and Anti-Mage for Canada, and Machine/LZ for the US) Fun events tho!

Hockey, and Canada beat USA at hockey during the olympics.
Any rivalry with the USA is more like a default thing. Historically the rival to the Canadian team was Russia and that is the rivalry people tend to think of first.
