wow, nice read about the whole "team depth" thing

Nice write up, interesting statistics. Effort is destroying everyone. I think what savior meant was that "Effort will destroy everyone in 2009"

It's true that the format benefits Day 1's winners because they can focus entirely on the ace game for the next day. But the old single-match format benefits "Day 1"'s winners because... well, they won. I'd argue that this format benefits the team with a deeper lineup because they have the depth to go out and take the win back on Day 2.

+ Show Spoiler +
While I'm not sure the spoiler is necessary, I'm playing safe here. Look at KHAN-STX. KHAN deliberately played for Day 1 advantage, and did what they could to try to net good lineups on Day 2. What did STX in wasn't lineup depth - they trashed KHAN today to give themselves another shot - but ace depth. KHAN can send any of its top four players for an ace game in confidence (well, maybe not fbh right now), while STX is effectively limited to Kal and Calm, and they're inconsistent.

Effort has already been crowned the new Zerg King b/c of a single win (+ a BO win) against JD and defeating and overrated Yarnac?

I suppose this is no different than what happens every year. However when Effort fails to win a single individual league, while JD/Bisu/Flash clear out the field, we'll realize (once again) that they are S-class for a reason and that Effort is just another in a long line of fads.

Please explain how a different format would better facilitate teams with depth doing better.

Not too difficult of a mental problem, just make it bo7 rather than bo6+ACE. This way it requires 7 unique players and each one is equally important. bo6+ACE is way more exciting though.
Wake up Mr. B!

Are you serious? You think sAviOr, the greatest Zerg of all time, means Effort to win? sAviOr, "the man who flies above them all [Boxer, NaDa, iloveoov]" - Korean e-Sports article, "the one who can overcome all [slump], if anyone can" - DJEtterStyle, "who when all is said and done, will be the greatest player to ever play the game" - Hot_Bid.

It's fucking (Z)sAviOr man, and he will destroy all shit in 2009.

one of the best writeups i've ever red, superb! it actually gave me the chills on some parts, can't wait to get the next games going! the statisfaction part was neat aswell.

kinda sad that both of the teams that convincingly swept their opponents today got destroyed in a single match, but that's how it works, having no true ACE players.. actually wasn't Leta the ACE match bonjwa, too bad they couldn't let him play due to being destroeyd mentally with the previous defeats..

This is a reasonable balance between depth and...not depth. But the one thing this format excels at is excitement, which is exactly what the organizers wanted.

Awesome writeup, fun to read.

The series couldn't have ended better entertainment wise to me. Two final Ace matches to determine the winners. I'm just glad CJ was on the winning end of one of those.

I can definitely sympathize with Leta, the guy puts his heart into this and goes 0-3. Just brutal. I don't feel bad for Movie though. He did lose to Justin just after an epic game against Leta but still his team did end up winning thanks to his game the previous night. Also Justin got a scout in when the citadel was morphing which basically ruined the surprise of Movies entire build. Even after his DT/Arbitor combination failed he still hung in there for another solid 2-3 minutes with those Last recalls. Overall I think he did well so I don't feel that bad for him.

The donut shop part had me cracking up.

Go CJ!!!!!!!
Nothing to it but to do it.
