[GOM] Finishing up the Round of 64.

Last week, as the weeks before it, had some upsets. The biggest upset was probably Nada vs Falcon, where the raw Hwaseung Oz Zerg toppled WeMade FOX's seasoned veteran in a 2-1 series. Falcon showcased some quality muta control throughout the series and in the game Nada won, he flashed some of his old flair when he switched from his failed valkarie opening to an SKTerran style.

Another upset of note wasn't entirely unpredictable, since the loser has been slumping hard for the past six months. Lomo vs jjonga was an embarrassing series for Lomo as jjonga brutally exposed the holes in Lomo's TvP, dismantling the Hwaseung Oz terran with cheesy Dark Templar play.

Finally, Stats impressed me when he took out HiyA 2-1, proving that he's got some real talent in PvT. Also, BackHo proved in his return that he's recovered enough from his injury to make Fakesteve cry.

There won't be a whole lot of Terran this weekend, so I hope you like ZvZ and ZvP. Will there be upsets? I'm pretty sure! In fact, few of these games look like autovotes. In my opinion, the most likely seed to be eliminated is GGPlay, and though it pains me to think about it, sAviOr's going to have to work for a win as well. I like HoeJJa, but sAviOr hwaiting, plz.

Upsets occure when there are games which look like autovotes. If one of the players has 30+ chanse to win it wont be an upset if he does win after all.

I think it's fair to say that whenever a seed loses to a non-seed, it's an upset. Afterall, a seeded position is granted based on assumed talent. The seeded player is more accomplished (i.e. better) and this is illustrated when he's given the seed over his opponent. I'm sorry you don't think that definition of "upset" is narrow enough, but for the purposes of the article, it's a useful short-hand. Y'see, rather than say "I think Stats has, at best, a 35% chance of beating HiyA" and then have everyone with an opinion disagree with my specificity, I say Stats' win over HiyA is an upset and we move on....

Well, except for you. But I'm alright with failing to meet your arbitrarily narrow definition.

Stats beating hiya was an upset for sure at least in my opinion, but the worst was falcon beating nada

Both game 1 and 3 of Piano vs BackHo were great games. Game 3 was so epic. I have seen some fucking odd starcraft games, but none like that one. It was great, and I'm so happy with the conclusion.

wow Organ v Backho was one of the best games ive ever seen. if you dont believe me, just know that throughout the course of the game, organ lifts off and moves his main base 3 times.

it wouldn't have mattered. The protoss still had another probe, a much bigger army, and the ability to stasis the terran indefinitely.

The craziest thing that happened was in the Falcon/Nada game + Show Spoiler +

on Desti where Falcon murdered the panda bear guy and still won. Tasteless tried to change the condition to losing the series, but it still wasn't good enough

Totally agree with your choice for best game of the season. It doesn't get any better than that Piano vs BackHo, especially cause I was rooting for the winner. And it also happened to be same game that Tastless and SDM brought up the monkey milk thing... EPIC!

And looking into the future, looks like SkyHigh and Iris have a fairly easy way up to the quarter finals, though their opponents did pull off some nice upsets. Sucks that Mantoss has to face Flash next, but if Anytime and Daezang give him back the manly reavers they borrowed for their proleague matches last Sunday, who knows?
