[Delay] Liquibition #30 - Encore

Update 19/04/09: Week long delay
One of the players did not show up at the arranged time to play the series. After waiting over an hour for this player to show up we made the decision to reschedule the match. In an effort to avoid drama this person will not be named, and the reason as to why they did not show up is not yet known. Obviously, seeing as this is a show match we can't simply hand out DQ wins so we went about setting up another time to play. Because kOs has Proleague commitments in the evening and F91 has commitments during the day, they will be unable to play out the series before the announced air time, hence the series has been delayed.

We apologize for this delay. The new air time for Liquibition is tentatively set for Saturday 25th at 2pm EST pending caster and player availability.

Update 17.04.09

Prize pool
Thanks to the user jpavel, the Liquibition prize pool has been increased with the payout as follows;
- $175 to the winner
- $50 to the loser

Thanks jpavel for your donation to Liquibition! I'm sure the players will appreciate the extra prize up for grabs

After the conclusion of Liquibition #29, the Liquibition staff went out and celebrated a great season. We were on holiday, and it was good to take a breather before committing ourselves to further projects. Or so we thought. From the depths of the eSTRO dungeon came a request from (T)kOs to be able to play in Liquibition. With this rare opportunity to connect with the Korean scene on the table, we agreed in an instant. The preparations for Liquibition #30 had begun!

Liquibition #30 - Encore will indeed be the last episode for this season, unless someone like (T)BoxeR decides he wants to play. [image loading]

F91 remains undefeated in Liquibition and has thus far amassed himself a small fortune off Liquibition. So far he has beaten (P)(ca)IefNaij, (T)(ua)Strelok and (P)(us)NonY in Liquibition - earning him a cool $300. In addition to that he also won the first Broodsport; which earned him $225. To date, he has earned $525 over the past 2 months. That's quite impressive compared to the top tournament prizes these days (~$700 for first prize). So [image loading]
F91 should be very happy with the money that he's made so far.

However, he has another opportunity to test himself and make some money along the way. (T)kOs represents a challenge on par with that of Gundam in 2004, and arguably an even greater challenge than (T)IdrA. One of the best things about this series is that there should be no lag - meaning that these games should be of the highest quality. [image loading]
F91 has proven himself already against the foreign Terrans; but can he take on the Koreans?

I should probably stop right now, and begin talking about (T)kOs because I'm sure the majority of the newer users have no clue whatsoever about him. Back in the early days of Brood War there were two really major teams; Ideal Space (IS) and Hanbit Stars. Both had a host of great players; IS having (T)BoxeR, (T)NaDa, (Z)YellOw and (P)IntoTheRainBOw while Hanbit had the likes of (Z)H.O.T-Forever, (T)Sync, (P)Kingdom and (P)Reach. You can check out one of their confrontations here. At this time (T)kOs was a member of the IS team.

In SKY2002 OSL Hanbit_Reach defeated IS_Boxer in one of the defining finals of the early days of Brood War. (T)BoxeR's father blamed IS's lack of strong protoss players for (T)BoxeR to practice against for his sons loss. It wasn't long until (T)BoxeR left Ideal Space and started up his own Progaming team. After all, he had the charisma to do so. So he began the selection process for his new team. Amongst his first recruits were the likes of (Z)Zerglee, (P)IntoTheRainBOw and (T)iloveoov. Shortly after (P)Kingdom left Hanbit and joined up, and then (T)kOs left IS and joined up. The IS team went into turmoil, and the remaining members left and went to other teams (e.g. (T)NaDa and (Z)YellOw to KTF iirc).

During his time on IS (T)kOs was hailed as the next big Terran and one of the soundest mechanical Terrans in all of Korea. His raw mechanical power lead him to many successes in KPGA (now the MSL) and some great victories on the way. In early January 2003 he defeated (Z)JinNam to place third in the 4th KPGA league and narrowly missed out on making the semifinals in the KPGA masters held shortly after that. (T)kOs was always known for his enormous potential in the game.

Then he got a girlfriend.

And so, (T)kOs's career as a progamer was nipped in the bud. All his potential could not be converted to make him a great progamer. It wasn't long before (T)kOs was shipped off to KOR where we lived out the rest of his days as a progamer. He eventually retired in 2005. But his days in Progaming were not over just yet; his talents could be put to use in other fields in the e-sports industry. He was recruited to be the assistant coach at eSTRO under Head Coach Daniel Lee aka superdanielman.

It was here (T)kOs flourished and developed into the most feared Coach in the Korean scene. Why is that you wonder? It is because his depth of knowledge is beyond that of anyone else in the scene. He knows more about the game than the vast majority of the Progaming scene; and that makes him a deadly coaching weapon. After Daniel Lee left to run scforall in 2008, he assumed the Head Coach position of eSTRO and has turned the team into a strong bunch of up and coming gamers.

It may be weird that we are inviting a Coach to participate in Liquibition, but he still boasts A rank iCCup skill. He is a worthy adversary for [image loading]

F91, and indeed will be [image loading]
F91's biggest challenge yet.

The map pool for this series was decided by the staff working on Liquibition and game are as follows;

F91 < Tau Cross > (T)kOs
[image loading]
F91 < Python > (T)kOs

F91 < Colosseum > (T)kOs

F91 < Rush Hour 3 > (T)kOs
[image loading]

F91 < Destination > (T)kOs

Liquibition #30 - Encore goes live 2pm EST (EDT) Saturday, 8pm CET Saturday or 3am KST Sunday. Will [image loading]
F91 be able to overcome the mechanical might of (T)kOs? Make your bets over in Liquibet, and we'll see you on Saturday to find out the result.

Some small notes:
- Ideal Space became Plus which eventually became Lecaf OZ
- Hanbit Stars became Woongjin Stars
- KOR became OnGameNet Sparkyz (Hite Sparkyz)
- You can find some sick Battle Reports about kOs's games in the KPGA here (vs Jinnam) and here (vs Reach)
- There are some VODs of kOs smashing Coach Park (SKT1 Coach, former MBC) 2-0 on Youtube

WHOA

I totally didn't see this coming! GJ TeamLiquid!

On a side note, I'm really curious how does a Korean coach actually play.
