Liquid`HuK = Blue | ST_Curious = Red
P7 Game 1 - Tal'Darim Altar Z11 + Show Spoiler [Show Recap] +Curious opens pool gas while Huk opens forge nexus-gate-cannon. The cannon is a few seconds late, and two lings get in. The two lings disrupt a good amount of Huk's mining before he gets a zealot out to deal with them. Two ninjalings slip into HuK's base. Curious takes his natural and third base quickly after, while Huk builds up to six warp gates and pushes very aggressively with Zealot sentry. Curious's speedlings delay, sniping a sentry or two as Huk sets up his forward pylon. Huk moves in with just a few sentries and zealots, but is denied by roaches. Early roaches deny HuK's initial sentries and zealots. Huk continues to warp in units, pushing up the ramp to kill a few overlords before being forced to retreat by large roach numbers. Curious is very deliberate in avoiding the ramp, as that would allow Huk to split his army with two force fields. Curious avoided the ramp like the plague. Curious's roach heavy composition forces lots of stalker warp-ins for Huk, and soon he runs out of sentry energy. However, he kills several overlords, supply capping Curious and forcing him to pull drones to defend. But with no sentries to threaten forcefields, Curious soon is able to overwhelm Huk's army and force a retreat. The net result of this three-minute constant battle is quite bad for Huk. He dealt only superficial damage and Curious successfully secured three bases (even though the third only has six patches). Also, Huk's third base is even more delayed because of burrowed zerglings. Huk finally takes his third, and Curious responds by taking a fourth and techs to spire. The mutas get quite a few probe kills, but Curious is too greedy and loses many of them flying too close to stalkers. Curious then executes a two prong attack, harassing Huk's natural with mutas while attacking Huk's third with roaches. The mutas are effective but the roaches fight in a very poor position against forcefields and immortals. No defensive cannons results in many dead probes. Despite a reduced probe count, Huk is now stabilized on three bases. He moves out soon after with a large stalker sentry immortal ball. Curious does a great job flanking right at the base of his ramp, using burrow to go under forcefields. The armies effectively trade and Huk retreats to take his fourth base while Curious takes his fifth. Roaches everywhere! At this point Curious is still leading, but only narrowly. Curious morphs many banelings and loads them into his overlords for the carpet-bombing technique that is very effective against clumped units. Huk meanwhile has teched to DT, and sneaks one into Curious's third base, dealing significant drone damage (8+ kills). Curious army composition. Then comes the turning point in the game: Curious moves in with roaches, but they get forcefielded off and then the overlords fly in to drop banelings, but they barely unload any banelings before Huk kills them with stalkers. Meanwhile, a DT sneaks to Curious's fifth and yet another DT goes into Curious's main. With a severely disrupted economy, Curious no longer has the army to contest Huk's ball, especially when Huk adds templars and storm to it. Baneling bombs: ineffective. Huk blankets the roach army with storms and the rest of his army finishes the job. Huk's remaining stalkers clean up Curious's fifth base and that's GG. [27:05] Deathball doing what deathball does. P6 Game 2 - Metalopolis Z3 + Show Spoiler [Show Recap] +Huk opens with a very safe and standard 3-warpgate expand. Curious opens pool speed into expansion and roaches. Huk then moves out with a small sentry zealot force, but Curious backstabs a few lings and scores some probe kills, forcing Huk to return home. Best defense is a good offense. Curious is running a dozen lings around the front of Huk's natural, but Huk traps them with some fast forcefields and kills them with no losses. Ling sandwich.. Huk moves out with a sentry heavy army, plants a forward pylon, warps in a few rounds of stalkers, and just jams the entire army into Curious's natural. With virtually unlimited forcefields from 10+ sentries, Huk easily rolls through and advances to the Round of 16. [10:47]
TLAF-Liquid`HuK Post Game Interview Congratulations! This is our first foreigner special interview with you, and it's starting off on a good note. How did you feel after the match?Felt really good, at worst now I can play in Code A again. Is it a relief to finally get a GSL broadcast win under your belt?Of course, especially since now at worst I get to play Code A again next season, but yes huge relief. Hopefully the next matches I won't be so nervous. Why were you nervous? It's weird, I dont really get nervous about that to much but anything Starcraft and I'm screwed. I don't know what it is really, just SC2 is really chancy sometimes and if I don't win I feel like I disappointed so many people, including myself. I just want to play my best and post results to match my skill. Did the games go as you expected? You said you met Curious on the ladder and that the series was not going to be easy.First game definitely did not. Second game was what I hoped and expected. I was really really really nervous first game though, after the win though I calmed down a bit. Take us through the first game then. What were your thoughts as it went on?Well, I had practiced this forge build to all-in if he didn't cheese or hatch first. I saw he took gas really early so I was very nervous about defending baneling bust / nydus / ling / roach all-ins. But afterwards my plan was to push with 6-8 gateways and try to finish it off 2 base, in practice games it always worked. Then it failed horribly and I basically just tried to play from behind, luckily with some nice DT play and his mistakes, I came back in. There was a point in the game where he had five or six overlords filled with banelings and you killed them all barely losing any units. Is this a common new strategy? We haven't seen it much in big tournaments yet, and both Zerg players did it in their matches today. All oGs use it quite commonly, I figured as much that they had banelings in them; at least hoped lol. It's really strong but if expected you just have to spread well and it's not that effective, especially with a more stalker heavy ball compared to a mass zealot/sentry ball. In the second game you went for a relatively safe 3-gate sentry expand, but you managed to kill him with a low gate count. My plan from a lot of discussion with Hayder was to all-in with those positions for numerous reasons on the map, his style, my style, and odds. But after he lost some lings early on I figured there was a timing. Basically I just counted on his small mistakes and waited for my pylon near his nat to finish to get a round of stalkers vs his roaches and it was gg after that. Even if he held I think I would of done enough damage to win most games from there on. You've been in Korea for several months now, but this is your first televised match. You mentioned before about feeling pressure to show results, can you elaborate on that more?Because the way Korea works I dont play many tournaments anymore. I hate cross server lag and don't travel that much since a lot of things like MLG are on their off season right now, so when I do play in something I want to win it always. Other then that i just want to do my best and impress as many as I can. Are you superstitious? You are now 2-0 in GSL with no trademark hoodie or pillow.I don't know if I would say I'm superstitious, but I do believe in some things lol, as weird as that sounds. Gotta rock the TL shirt and the lady put so much effort into my hair I would feel bad to ruin it with my hoody. I forgot my pillow but my oGs jacket faired okay. You stated that PvZ was your best matchup now. It was your worst before. What caused this change? Just safe builds like 3-gate expo I guess. I don't have a ton of variation in my play, but I think my control is decent and I don't mind playing anyone in macro games so. Just expereience of korean ladder I guess. You will play another Zerg in the next round - Revival, who looked pretty good in his series versus ButterflyEffect. Any thoughts on him? When will you start preparing for the next round?I've heard hes really good and practices a lot and hard. As soon as I know the maps I guess I will start practicing specifcally for that. I'll probably play some tonight or tomorrow morning, no days off for progamers ;o . Did the oGs or Liquid guys have anything special to say to you before or after the matches?Everyone pretty much said GL or fighting or whatever and then congratulated me afterward. But I talked most with Hayder so a special shoutout to him for helping me. Hayder has something to prove in his match later this week as well. Are you planning on watching your teammates play?Yes, I am planning to as long as nothing comes up and my mind set stays the same. I hope the best for Hayder, but his opponent is extremely tough. I predicted Ganzi before the matchups to be one of the best of all Code A. You did a ceremony at the end of the match. What did it mean?Basically people need to stop talking so much shit. It's funny now as I'm doing this interview, I'm reading up on TL about some immature jokes, or people complaining about a commentator who probably knows more about the game then 90% of the other commentators out there. I don't know, maybe its just me but I really hate fake people who just like to talk shit or play games. What is your goal for this season? To win Code A. You certainly seem very focused. Good luck! Any last words for your fans?Thank you all for supporting me so much you have no idea how much I appreciate it all and will do my best to represent you all well. Thanks to all my friends, family, and teammates as well. <333 all of you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH.

Great writeup. I squealed when I saw HuK ceremony shushed all the haters. Really enjoyed his games last night!
|
Nice read as always
Glad to see he won convincingly.
|
Nice to see Huk prove himself in the first round of the GSL. Hopefully he and the other foreigners can have a good run this code A season.
|
Nice article! Go go Chris!
|
Great interview. HuK being HuK and getting straight to the point in many answers. Oh well, glad he made it through and hope he does well. Also the ceremony was pretty epic. Idk if anyone else on liquid would do a ceremony :D
|
Thanks for the up! Go Huk!

Tell em Huk. Everyone on TL needs to get off their high horse and back the fuck off Kellymilkies. Guarantee you the large majority here wouldn't do better.
|
Love his comment about the commentator drama. Just enjoy watching the game because nagging won't change anything in the near future
|
Good job HuK, and whatever the results, I'm sure all of TL will always back you up. Same goes to Ret and Haypro! Good luck!
|
Excellent interview. I'm so happy to see HuK getting the ball rolling and getting a win. I was really optimistic when he first went to Korea because I know that he's one of those mass gamers who is really committed and can improve greatly in a relatively short amount of time with practice. I wouldn't be surprised to see either a jump up or a consistent, steady improvement from here on out.
HuK fighting!
|
Great to see Huk Advance, GL to the rest of the team in their upcoming matches!
|
Love this. Nice work, HuK!
|
Awesome games HuK! everytime I watch you play I get inspired <3 keep representing Canada, and letting the haters know whats up HuKSmash Revival!
|
yeah i figured it had to do with people talking to much
|
HuK smash :D:D:D:D
I hope he does well, im sure he will.

Hero status. Haha, indeed. Mind you, the "shush"ing ceremony might look a little ostentatious to those who don't know that is what it means.
I have no idea why people are so harsh on him for getting an invite (is it mainly the Koreans? That seems to be the impression I got from one of his interviews after being seeded). He clearly deserves to be there.
|
shutting up some mouths, i liked it I'm eager to see what happens on his next game

HuK is awesome!
I don't know why, but the first pic of him in the interview reminds me of Link
|
|
haha i laughed when he did his little "stfu" ceremony with his beiber hair/stature. im sure the haters were shaking in their boots

Great write-up. Awesome games and ceremony by Huk!

respect for the ceremony.

can someone tell me in detail what exactly huk's ceremony was?

QFT. HuK Hwaiting!!!

HuK owns. Was worried as shit in the first game, but, well, i'm glad Curious made some mistakes and Huk wasn't to nervous to capitalize. Much more in control in game two i thought. His Ceremony actually reminded me of MC. I like it.
|
keepin' it real
huk fighting!

i'm glad huk said what he said in the end of the interview, it needed to be said. I'm finally a fan huk hwaiting!!!!

Great Job HuK, now that you are in code A nothing can stop you now!

HuK telling the community like it is! so much win....

That's an awesome gif.
I'm very happy that HuK made it through the first round. Goooo HuK!
|
i missed seeing HuK play in tourneys. Didnt get to see him in Assembly so here's to a steady and long run in GSL \o/
|
Glad he did better in this GSL. Been a long time coming.

I hate ppl who just like to talk shit or play games also. Wait a minute!

Respect!
Reading the other other thread was depressing to see what shit the community has turned into. And it wasn't the new members either, alot of the it was coming from supposedly respected members.
|
Really happy to see HuK finally getting some much-deserved GSL success. Glad to see him finally managing to shut up the haters (and there seemed to be a ton of them in the LR thread, jesus christ. @_@). Regardless if it is just code A, it's quite the achievement compared to what most SCII players can say they've accomplished. Also nice to finally see a Canadian ripping it up in the GSL.
HUKKK FIGHTEEENNNGGGG!G!!!G n___n.
edit: On February 22 2011 14:10 Highways wrote: Reading the other other thread was depressing to see what shit the community has turned into. And it wasn't the new members either, alot of the it was coming from supposedly respected members. I agree completely. While I too was subjective of how Kelly would perform, the sheer amount of hate around here lately (the TSL invites (Haypro and Loner)), the way people were bashing HARD on Kelly on aspects irrelevant to her casting, and the amount of sheer bullshit in the LR thread (be-it people trashing HuK for "being arrogant" or the commentary), it really made me lose some faith in what this SCII community has turned into.
*shouldn't really put everyone in this pot though. No need to paint everyone the same but it feels like theres almost a majority of "negative people". ><
|
Too bad he's a protoss player, but HuK fighting!! Liked the reasoning for his ceremony!
|
And this is why I've been a HuK fan since the beginning of starcraft 2 and always will be! Keep it up man, win code A, win Code S, and grab that championship you deserve!
HuK fighting!
|
Good job in your matches HuK. I agree it's quite sad to see top people in the community, and one of recent importance be so immature towards fellow pro gamers. Some people need to get off their high horses.
Keep it real like you have been, you have plenty of fans.
|
God I love you Huk. i'm glad i'm not the only person that feels that the level of shit talking has reached an unacceptable level. + Show Spoiler +Support Purge 2011!!! :D :D
|
HuK you're now my herotoss, go all the way this season!! (and maybe a haircut ^^)
|
it had to be said, certain people really need to shut their mouth
|
Much respect for telling them to fuck off. Pages upon pages of users talking shit about cockiness and underachieving, but how many of them have the unbelievably consistent skill to deliver at his level in the mecca of pro gaming? None. If you go there, practice for months, rape the ladder up and down, and then get the validation of staying in the GSL, tell me you wouldn't fucking celebrate like a pimp.
Huk fighting, dammit.
|
Huk Norris!
But in all honesty, if I didn't know what Huk's shushing meant, I would probably assume it had to do with him picking his nose...
But he's still the man!
|
thanks for the interview. HuK seems like such a cool guy
|
Was so confused when I saw the last pic, but after reading the statement immediately following my respect for him went up tenfold. So badass pic. He's a monster on ladder, I hope he can carry it into the rest of the season. We need a hero toss foreigner!
|
I'm sorry if this is a really bad question, but what commentator drama is HuK talking about?
|
holy shitttt huk fightinggggg.
|
Haha, I was a bit skeptic and put-off by HuK (even though I've talked to him previously on a relatively small basis), but his ceremony justification has me running to the bank in stride!
Amen HuK, well fucking said. Everyone's allowed to have an opinion, but don't criticize to the point that you can or will do better than those who genuinely try.
Cheers HuK, A+ in my book.
|
huk should just win his games (and refrain from silly post game gestures imo), best way to shut people up
|
Even if Huk gets knocked out of the next round, he will never get knocked out of my heart, especially for that call for respect for the TL community.
Gotta rock the TL shirt and the lady put so much effort into my hair I would feel bad to ruin it with my hoody. It seems that we must suffer through Huk's Bieber-cut for a while longer, unfortunately. Huk may have solid mechanics and excellent game sense, but he certainly lacks a taste for proper hairstyle.
Many thanks for this interview.
|
Great games and great words! HuK is my hero!
|
Fuck yeah, HuK! I love what that ceremony meant.
Please keep delivering the beat down! and hopefully someday you may beat + Show Spoiler +Idra as often as Jinro.
|
Go HuK! Nice wins, great interview, and good luck in the next round! :D
|
wooo huk

Hero status. That's a pretty bold claim to make if he is talking about her, because she barely has 150 games on her account, which is no higher than plat and made a ton of simply wrong calls today. Teamliquid.net, on the other hand, is the base for the most hardcore sc fans there are, many of them starcraft/broodwar veterans of several years. And most of the criticism was valid and not just shit talk.
Maybe he meant something else, so a statement like that doesn't have to detract from his esteem (?) just yet.
On the core topic: This 2-0 win was a huge first step and influenced not only him, but all HuK fans! You could see the nervousness in his play, but it was still dominating his enemy easily. Let's hope that HuK will conquer that, too, and become unstoppable in the process. HuK fighting!

go huk! love the reasoning behind his ceremony.

Yea u said it right Huk. Funny how all these doubters flooded this forums about kelly before she even had a chance to prove herself. Really a big step back from the friendly community Im so used to here.

Hey guys, I'm new to TL and SC/SC2, can anyone tell me if theres a way to view HuK's match against Curious? Like how nevake on youtube has matches from SC1. Thanks.

HuK don't let those idiots get to you! You've been a huge inspiration to me in my personal life because from the very beginning you said you were going to be the best Starcraft 2 player and you're giving it your all to make that happen. We have very different goals but I can only hope that some day I'll be able to put everything I am on the line for my goals like that. Keep kicking ass and I'll keep watching!
|
yeah no one likes naggy people lol.
|
"Stop talking shit," is pretty ironic coming from HuK >< I guess he means more, "stop talking, start doing." And lots of people have probably taken the ceremony the wrong way, as a slight against Curious. Has it been explained in Korean?
|
Haha, gotta love Huk. Stick it to those the trash talker.
|
I think the Koreans can take HuK's antics. I mean MC would blatantly wag his finger after a win which is most definitely a slight to his opponent, but still in fun.

He's probably specifically thinking of certain very popular casters who couldn't ladder to gold if their lives depended on it. That's my best guess anyway.
edit: apparently my info on the skill levels of certain casters is out of date. disregard.

Was already a Huk fan, but after that interview (mainly the explanation of his ceremony) I have even more respect for this guy. Hope he goes far.

damn, such a good series! lot's more to look forward to from our HERO HUK!! The first game had me on the edge of my seat, but taking out those baneling loaded ov's was a game changer. Loved the ceremony too! Gl hf and fighting huk!!

On the core topic: This 2-0 win was a huge first step and influenced not only him, but all HuK fans! You could see the nervousness in his play, but it was still dominating his enemy easily. Let's hope that HuK will conquer that, too, and become unstoppable in the process. HuK fighting!
I also found it was kinda weird to put her under his wing like that. Maybe I just didn't get the references? Given all the LEGIT issues risen regarding her skills on her job, I really think HuK has dropped the ball there, as said issues concern directly to, I dunno, half our Code A experience? Some ppl were just mindless haters but the vast majority expressed their thoughts very well and respectfully.
My butthurting aside, I dunno about any criticism towards him tho, can someone link to some of the shit ppl said?

And I'm a Starcraft player of 12 years and diamond peep myself, even though I'm not exactly playing the game at all. Diamond and low masters also is the lower end of decent players and even though HD and Husky might be that high up, their strategic commentary is far from being on the same level as Tasteless (and it is not their style).

Yeah Huk. Dominate code A. HUK FIGHTING!!!!!

Great interview. Love his explanation for the ceremony and totally agree with him.
In game 1, the early +1 attack was so huge, he would've gotten crushed and been in big trouble without it.
|
So glad for HuK, great to see him do well.
However his "Ceremony" doesn't change the fact that the commentary left a lot to be desired. She may know more than a lot of other commentators, but that doesn't mean she's any better IMO
|
I am an even bigger HuK fan after these two games. If that is possible. I really hope to see him live up to the skill that he demonstrates on stream and at Assembly. His mechanics and speed have progressed dramatically during his stay in Korea. It is really satisfying to see a non-Korean be able to maintain such a fast pace without loosing focus on the small things (harass, balancing bases with workers, army spacing, scouting, etc.) I actually feel like the casters are not giving many of these small things justice sometimes (the obs catches it on cam, yet nick and company usually fail to catch it).

That reply is gross for a number of reasons. Huk's comment was about people who act fake and talk tough on the internet, but would be too afraid to say it real life. It isn't like he was making a physical threat, just expressing disgust towards comments exactly like yours. Did you actually make an account JUST to type that terrible wreck of a sentence on the forum? Yikes man.
Edit: I could barely type my reply before the ban hammer came down. God damn I love TL.

I agree and seriously wish people would stop hating on Husky. In fact, Husky is the entire reason that I am now watching SC2 on a regular basis.
Let me explain. I didn't follow BW, and hadn't played a video game (console or computer) for like 7 years. (Yeah, I am old, like 28!) I was surfing around YouTube one day last summer, and this thing called the HDH Invitational was on the front page. I remembered Starcraft pre-expansion from when I was in high school, so I decided to watch a game or two, and then I got hooked.
I am not kidding, I had no idea that SC2 was being releasing and knew none of the players. Now I watch Day[9] and GSL, and listen to SoTG, and post on TL.
Give Husky the credit he deserves and leave it at that, no need to hate.

*Edit* - I have a niggling suspicion that Huk was talking about the incident where Incontrol and Gretorp re-streamed the GSL and trash talked etc. He wasn't talking about comments on forums etc.
------------------------------------------------------------- about Huk referencing the commentary.
its not YET about how much knowledge the person has, because the person can't even speak english properly (or type). If the person speaks decently like Jason Lee but yet doesnt know enough, that's a different matter.
No doubt the new girl knows some. but you need to respect the audience and speak/pronounce words properly so that the words are not jarring to the ears. its not even about accent.
The job is for a GSL commentator (not caster), not someone to teach a bronze player how to get to platinum.
but 1 good thing has come out of this, Tasteless has stepped up in his commentary. All the new caster has to do is look pretty, talk less, stop calling hellions race cars and pronounce Ls and Rs and BLEs properly.
Look at all the flak bitbybitprime and sanszenith got from Tastosis. 2 players who got into the GSL while they didnt. I'm not gonna flame them for that. so dont be surprised by the complaints of poor commentary because we all have 1 thing in common, we want the GSL to be better and therefore anything of lower quality should not be harboured. Be it 1 trick pony all-in players or bad commentating. If you don't wanna be eliminated, you should improve asap.
and i dont understand why ppl have been talking bad about HUK. seems a nice likable fella unlike Idra

Basically people need to stop talking so much shit. It's funny now as I'm doing this interview, I'm reading up on TL about some immature jokes, or people complaining about a commentator who probably knows more about the game then 90% of the other commentators out there. I don't know, maybe its just me but I really hate fake people who just like to talk shit or play games.
Not to be chiming in, but KellyMilkies knows about as much about the game as TotalBiscuit. A lot of us were less "talking shit" (is it just me or does he sound like some frat boy when he talks like that?) and more showing concern that our casting duo changed from one analysis guy who knows what he's talking about and one entertainer to two entertainers who have a low diamond understanding of the game. Now I agree with him that despite her lack of knowledge compared to some, she is still more knowledgeable than 90% of the other commentators, because there are a wealth of them. But she was chosen for her representation of SEA community, her participation in esports and experience in casting, and the fact that she could pay for her plane ticket to go. She was not chosen for her excellent knowledge of SC2. So it is fair to criticize GomTV for picking someone for obviously superficial reasons.

I didn't know Singaporean English is bad english. And surely you cant mean ALL of them speak this way. I'm not asking her to be eloquent (even though it is commentating), just pronounce the words decently. I've heard asian debating teams on TV, I'm sure Singapore had a team and they don't have a western accent but all pronounce well.
This is not SSL (singapore starcraft 2 league) this is GSL on an english stream. Doesnt matter if alot more of them are far more difficult to understand, that is totally irrelevant. No1 is asking a Brit to talk like a Texan, that is accent. Read my post, i said accent is not a factor. Afaik, both a brit and a texan will pronounce it properLee, not properRee and this is what i'm talking about.
If i had a choice, i'd get werner herzog to commentate. love his narration. accent is thick, yes you can hear german but its totally fine. hope you see the distinction i'm trying to make.
Hope she can fix the issues soon. I just want good commentary for the money i'm paying. If she can deliver, sure. But 3 weeks of this and race cars is unbearable. Its like watching baseball and a girl commentator calling the pitcher the ball thrower.
The players deserve a good commentary for all the hardwork they have/are putting in. If it was bitbybit, then she's fine.

People are entitled to an opinion, that some people don't express themselves too well, or are just plain immature, is unfortunate. Yes Kelly probably knows more about the game than 90% of people out there and alot of people would not do better than her, but SHE is being paid to be entertaining on the biggest tournament in SC2. The immature jokes and all that, is a sign that people don't find her entertaining, but rather fairly annoying (myself included). If Tasteless took $300 casting lessons, I figure Kelly could do the same for her dialect, which seems to be the butt of the jokes on her.
That said, I have full respect for all casters who do what they can for e-sports, but like I said, it's also a job, and that job equals having to entertain the masses.

LOL. horrendously inhumane?
You need to chill the fuk out dude. No one was 'horrendously inhumane, disgusting' etc. People were worried about enjoying a game they love. That's it. Me included.
And Kelly can speak for herself - AND defend herself! Don't you agree?
And I love HuK. But seriously.. no one likes whiteknighting. It's just so...cheesy.

Yeah, news anchors/anyone who speaks publicly in Singapore has very clear English, singlish is spoken colloquially in the same way most slang is. For a lot of people it's also not the only way they speak, it's a casual style of speaking that they can 'turn off' in other situations.
Huk's games weren't flawless, but I'm so glad to see him winning and moving on. Great job for his first games on such a big stage. The best way to get people to shut up is just to consistently deliver results, and 2-0 is the best start you can get.

LOL. horrendously inhumane? You need to chill the fuk out dude. No one was 'horrendously inhumane, disgusting' etc. People were worried about enjoying a game they love. That's it. Me included. And Kelly can speak for herself - AND defend herself! Don't you agree? And I love HuK. But seriously.. no one likes whiteknighting. It's just so...cheesy. Nice Interview and those games were the most entertaining games of day1 imo. Grats to Huk!

He doesn't talk shit about the game or other people, he just dislikes everyone talking bad about Starcraft 2. His view point is completely valid. Alot of people need to grow up and stop talking so much shit about the game, and just play. ANYWAYS
HuK hwaiting! So glad to see the fellow Canadian Protoss win a GSL match. He is a very high skilled player, and now he can show Korea how skilled he really is. GL on the next round.

was he reverring to kelly as a commentator?
|
Thanks for the writeup! His ceremony at the end was awesome, great to see more people doing it now, adds in the icing on the cake.
|
Is it a Starcraft thing to call it a ceremony? It's not a ceremony, it's a gesture, or a celebration. A Ceremony is a wedding or a funeral or similar.

God I love that guy. Stomp em HuK!

No, I like it better this way. Though, how he looks is a moot point, we love him for his skill not looks. Go Huk win the code A for all of us.

Anyone got a link to Huks ceremony?

You did a ceremony at the end of the match. What did it mean?
Basically people need to stop talking so much shit. It's funny now as I'm doing this interview, I'm reading up on TL about some immature jokes, or people complaining about a commentator who probably knows more about the game then 90% of the other commentators out there. I don't know, maybe its just me but I really hate fake people who just like to talk shit or play games.
This is so true, 100% agree with Huk.

Not to derail the thread, but it has been a lot about casters so.
Husky was the one who got me into SC2 back in the beta. Hes gotten very popular, and so naturally haters are gonna hate him. What is kinda ironic about it is that all Husky is doing is having his own youtube channel. Hes not casting high level tournaments (except for that MLG, but that was very early in August or smth, and I think both he and the ones responsible for the tournament understood that didn't work out). He never claimed to be a very good player. He provides entertainment for those who value that over depth. Regarding Kelly, at least give her some time to fuck up before flaming her.
Now to move along to the topic at hand, great series by HuK, didn't think he would win the first game after that timing attack failed.
Oh and Bergys, the ceremony has been linked in this very thread, go to the earlier pages.

ceremony is konglish, and yes the proper way to call it would be a celebration (as in a goal celebration in footy). but who cares, everyone knows what it is now.

WHAT THE HuK?
Basically HuK need to stop talking so much shit. It's funny now as HuK has done this interview, I'm reading up on TL about him complaining about people who mostly gave well deserved criticism to someone who, in my opinion, deserved it. I don't know, maybe its just me but I really hate people who win one match against a zerg, who played pretty crappy tbh and suddenly get the "high-and-mighty"-syndrome. I think he needs to stop talking shit and just play games.
(Also, it's fucking amazing that he won the game. Hope to see him do even better next game!)

Him saying how it actually is (im guessing this is what you wanted to say), would be him responding to the criticism, not doing a ceremony and pulling random numbers out of his ass. So yeah, I'm actually pretty serious about my post.

Huk needs to stop talking trash and focus on actually winning Code A which is what he is in Korea to do. White knighting and writing little poems does not help his cause rather. I am a Liquid supporter, but behavior like this seems to be a little bit unprofessional on his part imo.

Really impressive and fun play from HuK, refreshing to see pvz that is not based on collossus play.

This is just my opinion, so I hope no one takes offense to this, but if HuK wants people to stop talking shit he better be able to back it up. Because from the looks of it I can keep talking shit and HuK couldn't do anything about it (iNcontrol on the other hand, LOL. See my point?)
Not meant to be disrespectful! You are still a beautiful man, HuK! Just can't take you seriously when you say tough things like that in an interview knowing what you look like. The bieber hair and girly 'shush' don't help.
Again, I am in no way trying to be disrespectful, just offering an honest viewpoint. I loved your games and hope you have the motivation to go far (because you totally have the skills!)

HuK really improved a lot over the last months. If he keeps practicing like this, he may very well find himself in Code S soon.
Just keep calm dude. While watching your games, I can easily see that your skill level is not behind any top level Korean.
But in the mean time, it is sad to see another nice guy has been victimized by Korean barbers (do they call them "hair styler" there? There is only one style as far as I can see.)

I'm also going to add TSL Revival has me smitten, and I don't envy Huk for having to face him and his rather excellent play.

Thank God someone said that... You are a very reasonable person Huk
|
WTF kind of make-up did they use on you HuK? It seriously looks like you're a different race between the playxp picture and the booth picture. Is it really just the shadow?
|
Congratulations on the win, the games looked solid, and refreshing after I was expecting some forge first build against zerg, seen many of them on Huk's and IdrA's streams and they get on my nerves soooo easily, you never know how it's going to end x_x
On a diferent note, Huk's attitude lately is surely pissing some of people off and can win him many haters, not only jumping and defending his friend Kelly, wich he should remember than many people who are complaining really have a trouble and dont give it on her, but on Gom, because they are customers, and pay (like me at least) making posible the big tournament that he is participating on. But other signs, like, during Asembly Winter, seeing him tipe ww after every match in so many games, to me, and I guess other people too, it looked like he was rubbing in people face his training in Korea. I cant blame on him, because it has been his style for a long time already, but expect people to not like it and air it also. (Sadly not everyone can be like Jinro <3)
Good luck on the next games, the more westerners in Code S next season the better!

I was WTF'ing at curious throwing away about 20 baelings and 5 or 6 overlords.
but im happy that happened cus HuK destroyed him ;3

Didn't get to watch the end game celebration, and now that I did, I really like it XD. GGGLHF HUK!
|
I agree with HuK on one level,
Everyone should think before they speak, including himself. No point elaborating because he probably won't receive this message.
As for the commentator debacle, the heat should be on Gretech not Kelly. So if you want to blow off steam, it should be directly focused on them.
|
I really love huks play. And I really hope he goes far in the gsl.
But seriously. He needs to keep his ego in check.
First the ww's at assembly and calling himself out as the best player in Europe.
And now telling people who were concerned about kellys commentating (legit concerns) to 'stop talking shit'...
It's a little out of control imo. =/

well said Talk shit get hit. congratz huk!

I'm a little surprised by Huk's commentator comment. Maybe he's not familiar with the commentator in question but bad commentating certainly has an effect on esports. Imagine trying to show a friend who kellymilkie's (I can only assume that's who he's referring to, if I'm wrong correct me) commentary about a game. It won't even be taken seriously and that's a problem for a scene that's trying to gain legitimacy. Claiming that she knows more than 90% commentators is ... an interesting conclusion unless he's trying to bring in amateur youtube commentators into the mix. Lastly, poor commentating dampens the enjoyment of any scene. It make it look tacky and amateur. Watching any poor sports commentary gives the same effect. The fact that she has a heavy accent is another huge strike against her because the people she's commentating for speaks English as a native language. In my opinion, the comments people levied against kellymilkies is very much founded. There are some bandwagons jumping on but the core of the argument is very legitimate. Very disappointed as I've always found Huk a very nice humble guy off public interviews

Good for you huk! Glad you're atleast back with us next season. I really feel you can go all the way in code A this season.
I still think his answers switch from week to week. In this interview he states: ...but I think my control is decent and I don't mind playing anyone in macro games so...
In Helsinki Finland, you said in the SK interview you think your control is at least top 3 in the world at the moment.
So Huk? What is it? Is your control decent or is it of the highest level?

Ok, so there's little caster synergy but that's for a very obvious reason. And seriously, Tasteless and Artosis were getting so overworked last season, holy shit.
Who cares if her commentating previous to the GSL was of poor quality, she's doing a pretty impressive job now, and there's been like a bazillion people who judged her before she even broadcast a single word for the GSL.

Time to stop just reading the forums, and start posting as well :p
On the topic at hand 2 points:
1) Haters gonna hate- oldest internet phenomenon nothing will ever change that fact. In regards to HuKs ceremony they twist what he said as tho he is whitehorsing the new commentator and acting like a boss(i.e they probably think that huk must be after her pants), even tho its completely not what it is. He is just giving the first example that came to his head, and it happened to be the commentator thing, as its big atm. And idd, if u look through that topic, the amount of trash and pointless namecalling there is insane. HuK is not nagging about constructive criticism like many hear tend to think, but about pointless trash talk and abusive jokes that no one that is old enough to play this game should laugh at. He could do watever he wanted during his broadcasted games, and he decided to be proactive about promoting better community attitude... whats wrong with that?
2) GGs huk, hope u can make it far, u sure can. Dont let nerves get to u and ull be in up/ down in no time

Great games. I wasn't expecting much from the girl commentator when I first heard her, but as she was casting I realized she was rediculously knowledgable and noticed all of the minor details. Kudos.

His hair is starting to look like the oGs players, HuK is almost a full Korean now, he's Canadirean.

Really great write-up!

Both. She corrected tasteless a handful of times in his analyses of the gameplay, and was in general very insightful.

Does Huk really have that many anti fans to warrant such a ceremony? I've always thought of him as the top foreigner protoss.

Lots of people on TL have been overly antagonistic lately. Thanks, Huk for bringing some balance.

Glad to see him get the victory and stay in code A...I really hope he can win all of code A or get into the top 8!

Here's an interesting video.
Skip ahead to the last 5 or 10 minutes and watch until the end, to see what Idra, iNcontroL and JP really think of HuK.
iNcontroL lost a lot of points with me, I expected more from him. The other two... Well, what else can you expect.. Idra's jealousy really shows.

"Basically people need to stop talking so much shit. It's funny now as I'm doing this interview, I'm reading up on TL about some immature jokes, or people complaining about a commentator who probably knows more about the game then 90% of the other commentators out there. I don't know, maybe its just me but I really hate fake people who just like to talk shit or play games."

This is quite frankly just rude and immature of iNcontroL.
My respect for iNcontroL is held only by the strings of the potential success of NASL, but when I see him not only disrespecting players, but also disrespecting commentators... There is little faith left.

So true. Even bashing on his hair. REALLY? Not to mention their complete ignorance, jumping into a conclusion that HuK was "arrogant" after he did his little ceremony. I'm sorry IdrA, I have actually lost a lot of respect for you, I seem to like Jinro and HuK WAY better now. And InControl, that was also very immature of you, especially because you looked way more akward with Gretorp during that fail announcement than KellyMilkies and Tasteless. You guys whining about HuK being arrogant are idiots. He HAS to be. Look at MC. The guy used to be no one, he used to be a great player who would get nervous during the important matches and lose. That's EXACTLY how HuK is. Then MC started to get cocky and more confident. Look now, he's known as the greatest protoss in the world at the moment. HuK has said that he gets really nervous during matches. He needs to be cocky and arrogant to fight back the nervousness he's feeling. If he doesn't tell himself he's going to win, why even try? He'll just let himself down if he doesn't think he can win.
I've been watching HuK's stream every time it's up the past few months and seen how incredible of a player he's become. He deserves to be in Code S, and im not saying that because I'm a fan but because I've seen how much he's improved.
I'm glad he's getting a little arrogant, hopefully now he'll win the big games and show everyone (especially all the haters) how good he really is.

I don't usually comment, but after listening to that, I am just furious. I never could have imagined the words that came out of incontrol's and idra's mouth. The starcraft community has given so much respect to them yet they return the favor by disrespecting a fellow commentator and SC player who is trying extremely hard to bring pride to the community. Constructed criticisms are welcomed but dissing the female commentator because of her accent and the way she looks is just ridiculous (and somewhat being racist). That just shows how shallow one's mind is. The professionally well mannered incontrol that we usually see may just be a cover up. His true colors show when he not restrained, talking and laughing spontaneously with his buddies. I beleive incontrol needs to apologize to KellyMilkies. Also, he needs to apologize to Huk for comparing his height to the height of a rock right after he won the match. That is not how you congratulate someone who just won a match in the GSL. Secondly, Idra, we all know you are a pretty good gamer but what good does a progammer do to the community without a graceful heart. First learn to respect other people, then you will deserve to be respected. Idra you don't need to apologize to Huk because it just not worth Huk's time.

If iNcontrol wants to be the face of NASL, you don't say those things that's obnoxious/racist in public especially to your fellow pro-colleagues. Your want to promote/growth e-sport? show us some professionalism. If he was a true sport commentator, they already fire him already. I hope iNcontrol could man it up and offer a sincere public apology to Kelly, Huk, and Tasteless.

Ret is not in code S yet, sure he have the skill, but some said that he had huge problems with all in (his teammate), that's a flaw that is not acceptable in code S. HuK brag a lot but never back up with any good result, the ceremony was so cocky I understand the hate HuK takes from it. I mean they have the skill for sure (ret is a beast, I'm sure he will blossom in this GSL) but code S is really solid. Look at Haypro, so underrated and yet he can't show the world how good he is because of some little flaws he have.
IdrA is solid, you can hate him, but he is still way more accomplished as a player than HuK, it's obvious.
The only player that is legit in every way is Jinro, well mannered, perfect and solid play, so humble, he is the guy that makes the foreign scene proud atm (and ret in like a few weeks I hope ).

The other two... Well, what else can you expect.. Idra's jealousy really shows. http://www.justin.tv/teamqq/b/280083999 This is quite frankly just rude and immature of iNcontroL. Stop talking shit, grow up. lol... Huk IS pretty arrogant these days. ww's instead of gg's? Calling himself out as the best player in Assembly? And now telling people on TL to 'shush'? Because they didn't like a commentator? ...if that ain't arrogant, i derno what is. =/ Oh I definately think TL should "shush", the community has been SO immature concerning KellyMilkies. It's completely childish, and I've even seen racists comments and such, it's completely atrocious. And if you think HuK is "arrogant", take a look at IdrA. At least HuK can win games behind his arrogance. ro16 open gsl and ro8 code S vs not even qualifying for code A without an invite. great statement. You don't necessarily have to do well at tournaments to be considered "good". I personally think HuK is Code S material, as well as Squirtle, Ret, and etc.
You can personally think anyone as Code S materials for all I care. But statistics speak louder than arbitrary opinions.

Well, your language isn't really impressive either to be honest.
I've been following InControl and Idra for a long time and without a few exceptions, I've always listened to their casts, their complaints and so on. In fact, I quite like a part of their attitude and I absolutely feel neutral towards their remarks, despite what you might believe regarding my mental state or possiblly hurt feelings.
However, InControl is trying to establish himself as a more important character within the Starcraft scene and with becoming more known and important, a person must understand that this brings some responsibilities with it as well. I won't say that InControl is not allowed to make sarcastic remarks or to criticize people, but it's just stupid for a possible co-organiser of NASL(?) to make fun about a person's accent, criticize people without argumentation or not being open for criticism himself. He just doesn't represent himself as well as you would expect him he would, from the same point of view that Husky is just stupid for making fun of Idra for no apparent reason while he his without doubt the most known (and absolutely not the best) caster within the Starcraft community.
So, I never gave direct criticism to him as a person and I'm not directly offended, but his overall attitude is not something that is reflecting a well respected person that might be in charge (at least for a part) with the NASL; an organisation that is extremely important for the future of competitive Starcraft (2).
Then again, nothing against sarcasm and black humor, but there's a difference when a random factory worker makes a statement about his hatred for christians and when an important minister would make the exact same remark.
Also, you didn't understood my point regarding the word 'amateuristic'. In fact, where did I even mention Idra's achievements? I was referring to his behaviour which I, to be honest, find childish and amateuristic. I have a lot of respect for Idra for going and staying in South Korea for several years and playing a videogame in a competitive way, but his persona and remarks as a whole are nothing to be respectful of in my opinion. I would rather see Idra making a constructive and well written thread on TeamLiquid regarding balance problems than having an account that exists of minor remarks, warnings and bans or just vending pure frustration through an online talkshow. So, nothing negative regarding his achievements, which everyone should respect to be honest.

They're NOT priests or 'ministers' or whatever you called it. They're allowed to have their opinions (which some of us actually agree with!)
And Kelly does have an accent, and people were going to make fun of it eventually. This is the internet dude.

am I the only one who chuckled at Huk's unintended "hates people who play games" irony/pun?
Huk's a fantastic player, but after seeing his stream, and postgame interviews/taunts I'd be inclined to group his attitude right in there with Idra's and iNc's (both also ridiculous players). It blows my mind how angry/frustrated people can be when they play video games for a living. I can't imagine my day-to-day joy if that's what I was doing instead of full-time work and school..
Regardless, good luck to Huk next round..

true true! I just hope Huk can back up his postgame ceremonies with actual gsl victories.. =/ lol otherwise it's going to be like someone throwing egg in your face. Which coincidentally has happened to me once. Not intentionally though. Kids aiming for the roof.

I have to admit, I was fairly disgusted by IdrA's utterly childish reaction to HuK's little post-game bit, but I appreciate him at least partially owning it on SOTG, and admitting that in context, it wasn't really that douchey. The initial reaction was pretty bad, though.
If InControl wants to be the public face of gaming, however, he needs to tone down about 99% of what he says. I like his humor, and I was chuckling too, but the public isn't going to see it the same way, nor should they.
|
LoL, IdrA just said "he is such a little looser" after seeing the ceremonie... Don't understand all the mess about that, it's not rage, he is just expressing his disagreement with HuK's cockiness.
On the other side, Incontrol talk about Kelly is pretty harsh, especially the moment about how a completly drunk Nick Tasteless should "pound her into a little bed"...

There was also some muttering about, "god I fuckin hate that kid." You have to have the sound up pretty loud to hear that one, but it was there. That was the bit that really bugged me, tbh. I'd have lolled and called him a loser too, just because the whole thing was so funny. [[Edit]] Not because he's bad (I <3 HuK to death), but the whole thing seemed a bit silly, especially in formal, low-key South Korea.

"I really hate fake people who just like to talk shit or play games."
Why he hates people who play games? I'm confused.

Love to see how people in this thread insults (or poorly criticize) HuK and end the post witht hings like "...but I hope he does well in next game..." and then gets BANNED because of their "fakeness". That's the FAKE people whom HuK was shushing, people who is double-faced or blindly biased. I just think HuK is doing well, and he is defending something of great importance not only in games, but in life, and that thing is called RESPECT, so it might be an accent, or a haircut, a voice, or whatever, but people must stop talking sh*t of other people... GOGOGO HuK, keep your good job and your nice attitude against crappy people! (and of course keep wining!) HuK hwaiiting!

I don't understand how civil criticism correlates to disdain. Someone doesn't have to be an adoring fan to wish someone well. I feel it's a lot easier to wish good things upon someone than spread more toxicity than what's already present here on these forums. It doesn't make me a fake person to opine that I'm not the biggest fan of Huk while still wishing him good luck. It just makes me a better person than those who choose to spit venom at anyone who doesn't bow at Huk's feet. Furthermore, I don't think Huk needs you to further explain what people he was hushing, and point out who those "crappy, fake people" are. I also find the idea that Huk has become the "defender of Justice, Honor, and Respect" a bit far-fetched. He's a good SC2 player, not Robocop.
..and I DO hope he does well in his next game(s)
|
HuK HWAITING! Well done and GL next round!

HuK wasn't being cocky with his ceremony. It was directed to the community, not Curious.

he just means that people who troll for no obvious reason or with least amount of credit into it.
Like his honest opinion regarding the issue of a certain commentator and during the SOTG yesterday, incontrol was basically being a hyprocite regarding that matter...

I don't know why people are saying that HuK's behavior is bad. The dude did a mothership rush just to please the fans. And then poking his head in during all of InC's girl friends interviews. Then all the trolling and funny stuff he says during games are all in good fun. He likes to have fun and he does what he wants. He wanted to point out the people who are making things not fun. Haters gonna hate on HuK's behavior :|

being critical of people who were critical of kelly is somewhat uncalled for though i think. =/

I think what people are seriously missing is that if you want SC2 to grow and become more mainstream, then you simply can't have the people who are supposed to represent this community come off as jerks. Just take a random caster who is known for trolling and joking around a lot, we all know he trolls so the majority of us don't take to heart the things he say. And for example the accent bashing, well "it is the internet" and is just what happens.
However, people who doesn't know all this, non-gamers possibly or just part time gamers(the people I'm guessing we want to get interested in all this) DO NOT KNOW THESE THINGS, if a person who has no knowledge of how the internet "works" is to approach something like this, then there is a chance they'll get scared off.
Obviously there will always be bad seeds, but as a whole the community gotta show some sort of professionality if we want to get anywhere.

Idra's jealousy really shows. http://www.justin.tv/teamqq/b/280083999 How can people listen to this and NOT find the comments immature and generally repulsive? Making cracks about the physical appearance of casters and players? Really? People (especially those in glass houses) should NOT be throwing stones. Period. that channel has been shut down now I'm curious -.- What did they say?
basically it's idra and incontrol shitting over huk's play, his hair, his height.
quotes: "god I hate that so much.. what a little fuck" "he's never going to win a tournament.. eventually he's going to get someone who's seen him play before" "he all-ins a terrible noob game.. he's so happy about the first round of code a.. god he's such a little loser." "man standing no taller than a stone"
Then incontrol goes on about tasteless pile driving kelly into a tiny bed or some random shit after the game.
Honestly most of it wasn't even remotely funny but just plain stupid and insulting or maybe I'm just not getting the humor.

Lost all respect to Incontrol and IdrA. Someone else should be working on NASL, not him or make him think before he talks, seems like his brain didn't catch up with his body size.

I agree with this. The more I listen to that guy, the less respect I have for him.

How do I put it... if they wanted it to have the drama of WWE, then they should come out into the open and say stuff like that. The fact that it was hidden... lol, it's a PR nightmare from what I can see. Especially if NASL wants to be seen as a fair, competitive place to play SC2 in. If this was engineered, great. if not, it just reflects badly on the people involved. the conversation does seem off the cuff, so lol.
