Liquipedia Weekly #10
It's hard to make it to the top. Hours of practice every day, constant replay watching and theory crafting just to be the last name standing in a tournament. You get the fame, the fortune ($100 is a lot of money) and everyone will remember your name. At least until the next weekly event. But how can you reach the next level? How can you become an immortal in the world of ESPORTS? I'll share the secret: A liquipedia player page.
Now I know what you're thinking "well duh, liquipedia player pages are amazing." I'm glad you agree so I don't have to explain it. Player pages are powerful entities and can make players win tournaments. Most notably I told Tarson a while back that if he won Go4SC2 ESL Cup I would make him a player page. Did the power of my promise to immortalise his name break his Second Place streak in the tournament?
Damn right it did.
We have many players on the wiki and there's currently no real limitations on who is added aside from preventing Pholon from getting in to the portal. Taking a look through Category:Foreign Players you can see how many pages we've collected so far. Want to make a page for your friend who got top four in a tournament? Go ahead. Want to make a page for your clan or team-mate? Be our guest, but what should you do? How can you make a page to rival MorroW or qxc? Well fear not super fans, flicky is here to guide you through this art and turn your ThisIsJimmy into a Jaedong.
First stop is the Player Template page. Anyone who has been around a wiki will know, the best way to get started is to copy paste, so that's what this page is for. Remember at school when your Essays were written on templates? Easy peasy, that's how we like it at Liquipedia. All the code is straight-forward and the boxes have clear examples of what to put in there. Take a look at the infobox for example.
{{Infobox_FPlayer
|id=
|image=PlayerImagePlaceholder.png
|name=
|race=
|team=
|ids=
|country=
|birth_date=
|nicknames=
|site=
|stream=
|history=
}}
Just fill in the information as you see fit. Their ID in the first box, their real name in the name row and so on. It's really simple! Got a picture? Just upload it to the wiki (find out more below!) then copy the file path into the image row, easy as pie.
But how can you make your page stand out? Well there's a number of options you can try!
Pictures
If your player is undeniably handsome, get some pictures in there. A picture says a thousand words and really helps brighten up a player page. One of my favourite things from live events is seeing all the pictures afterwards and asking permission, then sticking them on Liquipedia. All you have to do is Log in to Liquipedia, find "Upload File" on the left sidebar, upload your picture then insert the code into the page. As I said, Copy-Paste is the way to success, so let's give you a headstart with an example from Dimaga's's page.

It doesn't even have to be a picture of them, some gameplay images or even an animated gif could spruce up a player page. I think the Artosis page would be much worse were it not for the images.
Undeniably Handsome
VoDs
A tradition that hasn't really carried over from Liquipedia is the VoD sharing. When Leta battled Jaedong on Heartbreak Ridge the VoD was attached to his profile instantly which is something I've rarely come across on Liquipedia 2. So I think that needs a change, don't you? Just found a VoD by a player than has stunned you? Just add it to their Player page. You don't want it to be forgotten do you?
Updates
This is the hardest part of Player Pages, keeping them up to date. Perhaps if players like HuK stopped winning so much it would be easier, but I digress. The easiest way to contribute to Liquipedia is to add a result you've seen to a player page or if a player has changed to a new team. It's even easier than correcting grammar.
So that's basically it, Liquipedia is hungry for more players! Even if you can only write one or two sentences, just go for it, that's what Wikis are for, over time they will grow and improve. If you've really got no ideas, you can always add something completely different. For this, I leave you with something from Sen's Page. Enjoy.
