Tournament Roundup #4
September 9th, 2010 15:52 GMT
Welcome to this week's tournament recap! The GSL is in full swing in Korea and I'm losing sleep watching the torrent of games. On the other side of the world, there is no shortage of games in the West. The consistently impressive flood of smaller tournaments swept through one more time and I've got the bird's eye view for you right here.
Each week we will bring you a link-heavy thread summarising the results from the minor tournaments from the past week - linking replays , vods , Liquipedia articles and threads where possible. This should be the only stop necessary to get a glimpse at how the competitive scene is shaping up! Note that this post won't be covering the results from the major tournaments, those will be covered by separate news posts.
GSL Round of 64 (9/4-9/14) Oh yeah. It's on. There's so much high level Korean StarCraft 2 going on that its making my head spin (could be lack of sleep doing that). Idra, Cool and many big and small names are making waves with great games in Seoul, the StarCraft mecca.

Description: + Show Spoiler +Two rising European stars fight it out in the deciding game for the Go4SC2 Cup..
The TeamLiquid Tournament Tracker is there for your convenience, check it out.
Phew. A few of the weekly tournaments hiccuped but major tournaments have made the problems almost unnoticeable. We are starting to really see what the players in Korea are made of, that the top European players are intent on remaining in the spotlight and that the best Americans are ready to fight for every prize dollar they can get. Catch your breath - the rush is going to continue. Stay tuned this week for TaKe's invitational tournament as well as a host of smaller tournaments going on this week.
If you are a tournament organiser and want to know how you can cooperate with TeamLiquid to promote your tournament, get into this weekly report and any queries in general - please contact Plexa who is in charge of TL's SC2 content. |
Can't wait for next week's so we can read about TLO's ro32 matchup :D
|
I'm amazed at the amount of money I see given out in the foreigner scene... I hope for players' sakes that this isnt a "OMG ITS A NEW GAME LETS SPONSOR" thing and is sustainable

You've got a dead(?) link. The 'GSL in full swing'. Thanks for this update ! !

lol, i think waste-deep has quite a different meaning from waist-deep
|
Thx for the recap!! Each weeks it's getting harder to keep an eye on all the tournaments! being exams days doesn't help either T_T.
|
Have we seen any Zergs win anything in the last 2 tournament roundups? O-o
|
We can do global ranking by money-point system just like PGA European Tour. so no matter which league, country or tourney they play. the point for them come from prize money only..
|
yep looking at the podium stand ud think theres only 2 races in sc2

Thanks for this chobo, keep up the great work.

In the past 3 tournament roundups we have:
Terran:
Gold - 17 Silver - 6
Protoss:
Gold - 8 Silver - 2
Zerg:
Gold - 0 Silver - 0
Go Zerg! Fuck yeah!!
|
It's not only the medal count... but most all of the Terran winners are different players from week to week. It's not like there's only one or two of them that are dominating, which could just happen by chance that we have a few extremely dominant players that chose to play a certain race.
Terrans who have won 1st or 2nd places since release: BRAT_OK, ClouD, Naama, SeleCt, MorroW, Kas, Satiini, NaruTo, SjoW, PainUser, CauthonLuck, Jimpo, merz, GoOdy, Demuslim, LucifroN, Tarson, Strelok, Silver, SarenS 20 players
Protoss who have won 1st or 2nd places since release: Socke, MaNa, cHoBo, Adel, HuK, NaNiwa, Sein, NightEnd, KiWiKaKi, HasuObs, TT1, White-Ra 12 players
Zergs who have won 1st or 2nd places since release: IdrA, DIMAGA, LaLuSh, MoMaN, Machine (Only DIMAGA has won any 1st places) 5 players
|
I definitely need to check replays you include in round ups, keep up with the great job please

from the link you post: (the individual league list)
Terran:
Gold - 19 Silver - 18
Protoss:
Gold - 14 Silver - 12
Zerg:
Gold - 3 Silver - 6
all 3 golds are dimaga wins.
+5 seconds for reapers is gonna change that!!
|
^^^ And one of those 3 Zerg wins was when Dimaga race switched in the final with Demuslim, so you could almost say 20 golds for Terran and 2 for Zerg
|
I got 2nd in OWC5, Tournament Roundup 2 (Zerg)
Also a LAN Tourney was played last Saturday, results are:
1. PainUser (T) - $250 2. Suppy (Z) - $125 3. HDGamer (Z) - $75 4. Axslav (P) - $50
|
This is one of the best of the new features! Keep up the great work guys!
|
Another great re-cap, interesting to see EU and NA tourney's going down without IdrA, TLO, etc.

Pro level matches should stop using Blizzard's maps. A big part of the balance in Proleague, Starleague etc. in BW scene was about the maps, and quite simply, Blizzard maps really don't have the same level of balance. They may be better suited to any given level of play, but are certainly not tailored for ultra high-level play.

There's no point discussing the theoretical balance of the game on maps that don't exist.
Zerg was competitive in the beta and got heavily nerfed and now it's almost a 2 race game. Zerg can be competitive on these maps, we've seen it before, just not with this patch.
