Liquipedia Q&A I - Download
September 11th, 2009 21:44 GMT
Greetings everyone!
2. You can ask your questions and questions during the show in the Question Thread on the strat forums. If your questions refer to a relevant thread of the discussion, it's more likely that we will include it. We'll be reading, we promise. During the event, we invite you to chat about it in our IRC channel #liquipedia.
3. We will record the event and upload it in mp3 format as soon as we can. We also hope someone will be willing to transcribe it afterwards. This eases editing the proceedings into liquipedia and will help anyone who wants to browse through the contents without listening to the whole thing.
4. Finally, we hope that this event can push you over the edge you to take up the pen and contribute some of what you learned to Liquipedia. So far, our Mech section is quite lacking, and an overall Guide Article on Mech vs. Zerg remains to be written. Pass on some of what you learned, help Liquipedia to be the best Starcraft Strategy Resource on the web and:
Enjoy the show!
Signing, as excited as you are:

Can't somebody else ask questions? :/ I am talking about Ver. I have hard time to even understand what he is saying.

That was one of most kickass events on TL ever. Very insightful commentary.
|
Thanks everybody for doing this! This (and more) is why TL is superior!
Edit: ESPORTS!!!
|
Thank you so much, learned alot!
|
That was awsome! Thanks to all involved.
If anyone wants to watch (or rather hear) it before the mp3 gets out it's on-demand at Mystlord's livestream.

Any feedback? Suggestions?
Seemed a little dry to me, but I don't know if that can be helped when you're discussing pure strategy... :O!
|
I dont think it was dry at all. Whens the mp3 gonna be out?
|
It would have been more interesting with visuals. Maybe if you guys actually all watched the vod together on stream somehow and had watched it before and noted the times you wanted to point something out (or ask a specific, detailed question) it would have been more interesting than a straight up question and answer panel. The questions were okay, but seemed a little basic to me, and the answers day and idra and artosis gave, though obviously of good quality, were attempting to condense thousands of games of experience into just a few sentences. Thus the discussion felt pretty broad and generalized, and at the same time confining, and while interesting from a metagame perspective, I wasn't sure what the point of it was. Was the goal for us to learn mech TvZ so we can add stuff to liquipedia? If so I think changing the format from a question and answer session would be helpful.
|
it would be easier if it was skype or some other voice software w/ no lag where we could joke around a little bit more
the lag makes conversation a little stuttery

So use skype next time then
It is even easier to use than ventrilo.

Yeah you raised quite a good point there. I got some requests during the cast to show the VODs in question, but I decided against it because we would be switching around too much.
In addition, the VODs combined runs to about an hour or so of material, and I think that if we spent that much time on those VODs, we would either come to a point where no action was going on, or the commentators would be interrupted by something else that needs to be pointed out, which might have been a bit too confined. I felt that the format used was fine, but it's hard to generalize an entire match up with in an hour and thirty minutes.
And if you thought the questions were basic, you could have added your own input and thoughts in the Q&A - Questions thread in the Strategy section, which didn't get too much attention until the last minute.
|
day9 was kind of dominating the conversation, idra did not speak enough.
EDIT: was cool and interesting :D

thought it was awesome however maybe when the hosts asks the question, he should immediately indicate who answers first. I noticed you started to do this a lot more towards the end, and I think it could really work out well on future casts (if there are any :3)
Other than that, it was fine. Wasn't bored at any time and it was pretty informative

Mumble is the closest you can get to lagless.

I understood everything Ver said very easily...
I only jumped was listening for around 30~40 minutes but it was really insightful and entertaining.

I only managed to catch a little bit of it and that was very interesting and fun to listen to as well, very much looking forward to the mp3.

Maybe one game could serve as a backdrop, or they could just focus on the build order and the early game, or the person streaming could simply skip around the VOD in question until each person on the panel's points had been addressed and discussed. Assuming the audience has already watched the games in question, this shouldn't break continuity too much. And, of course, there is a pause feature. There would be no need to treat it like a live commentary, it'd be more like a seminar.

Argh I fell asleep right before it started :/ Now I'm sitting here desperately waiting for the mp3 ;_;
|
:S I had to go take a shot from the doctor until the last 30 minutes, waiting for mp3 as well.

Do you think this was the right number of guests, or should we have fewer guests on a more narrow topic?

Does anyone know if this will automatically update within my day9 podcast subscription? Or will I have to DL it manually?

Technical issues with the .mp3. It should be up whenever the admin who has it wants to upload it ^_^

On September 13 2009 12:25 Manifesto7 wrote: Do you think this was the right number of guests, or should we have fewer guests on a more narrow topic? Well Idra didn't really get into the conversation much. I think having Artosis AND Idra is overkill really. I think Idra is a big enough star to have a discussion just with him alone. I'd love to hear what he thinks of the new maps and all about his teammates, what he does in practice etc.. But then Artosis and Day9 are more vocal and make for a better discussion. Those two would be great just by themselves.
I agree that there needs to be more visuals. Them talking over FPVods or Replays would definitely add to the conversation. Day9 said he was watching past VoDs over to see how progamers played in certain games, if the viewers could have seen that also it would've been cool.

i dont want to hurt anyone's feelings. but the guy with the stuttered speech was not really the best choice for asking long questions on a podcast. i'm sure he asked good questions but i couldnt really follow him with the lag + stuttering.

I disagree. I think he made a great contribution and I had no problem understanding what he said despite the stuttering.

Yeah, I only understood the question from what other guys answers to it ;D. Chill did pretty good job reading the questions in the start, I wonder why he stopped :S. No offense Ver ;].

Hi, I've just started playing Starcraft and would like to contribute to this site by transcribing (it's in English, right?) this for you all as a thanks for the learning resources I have at my fingertips.
PM me if you would like me to do so.
|
Would be cool but that's a lot of work, the chat took 1:33h or so :}. I think the better idea for you would be to listen to that mp3 and write in liquidpedia what new you found out and what's isn't there already :}.
|
I would definitely enjoy that, but it is a lot of work
|
I don't think it's worth it man, but nice offer.
|
I understand we all have our prejudice against different races, but it would be nice to see these guys can the crap when they are supposed to be having starcraft theory discussion.
the guy with the stutter did not bother me, but i have a few friends who stutter so it might just be me.
overall good idea and good mp3. I am sure if you have more the execution will improve as well.
|
I could understand the stutter fine, it was no worse than Idras vent lag
|
Sometimes it seems pretty smooth, other times stuttery... maybe its just getting used to doing something like this. Idra seemed out of the "wave" the most.
I enjoyed it!
|
This show proved that you guys need to bring liquibition back. Other than that, Day9 was informative as always.

Thanks for posting the mp3! I'm looking forward to listening to it!

I would love to see something like this beeing made for zvp 5hatch hydra or lurker etc! Maybe invite ret instead of idra and you are good to go :D I am very interested in your thought about that!
|
No offense but the guy that has a bad stutter shouldn't be on a cast. It makes it really hard to listen to. And I would like to listen to idra.
|

Never heard or seen any legitimate media outlet use people that stutter when they talk to convey news by any form of speech. But news feeds via radio or television going down due to technical failure does happen on a daily basis. Please don't make any comparisons from charity.

got bored 30 minutes in. quite poor and awkward most of the time well at least its beter than nothing
|
the dudes didnt mention that in the skyhigh vs jaedong game jaedong starved skyhigh of expansions, or that right when jaedong got a spire he got flyer carapace instead of making mutas right away, or that when jaedong did have mutalisks, he sniped tanks in addition to scouting skyhigh's main. this resulted in skyhigh not having hardly enough tanks when when began to push out of his natural (5), making jaedong's swarms extrememly effective.

Im wondering where the Day9 Blizzcon pictures Day9 said he would upload
