Liquipedia is Hiring!

Liquipedia is one of the most important esports resources in the world, and we're constantly looking for ways to improve and expand our wiki. LP has grown immensely since it was first launched as a BW strategy portal, and it's amazing what we've been able to accomplish because of Liquipedia's wonderful community.

We're always planning for the future, and Liquipedia is growing non-stop. We are now looking for a full-time MediaWiki Developer to turn our wiki dreams into reality. Applicants should be well versed in all things wiki; Liquipedia volunteers will of course be preferred! Team Liquid can provide housing for candidates willing to move to our Utrecht HQ, but they should be able to take care of themselves and be mindful of others around them. If you're a wiki wizard who loves esports, then make sure to send us an application.

Liquipedia MediaWiki Developer

Job Title: Wiki Developer
Type: Full Time
Location: Candidates that are able to permanently relocate to Utrecht, NL and work at our Utrecht HQ will be preferred. EU citizens will be preferred.
Reports to: Head of Liquipedia

A successful candidate is:

  • A self starter. As only our second MediaWiki developer, the candidate will have to work on some projects on their own.
  • A team player. Liquipedia is a community-driven project, and the candidate will be collaborating with volunteers and other Team Liquid staff on a daily basis.
  • A wiki contributor. Understanding the culture of Liquipedia is essential in creating a healthy wiki environment.
  • An organized developer. With numerous projects across different wikis, the candidate must be able to manage their time and workload to accomplish tasks on schedule.
  • An esports fan. Liquipedia is dedicated to the documentation of esports, and a passion for different games is essential in the development of our wikis.

Required skills, experience and equipment:

  • Mastery of PHP, MediaWiki, and CSS.
  • Strong understanding of web application security and secure coding practices.
  • Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, and LESS.
  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Previous experience as a MediaWiki developer is preferred.
  • A degree is not required but preferred.
  • Ability to take care of one's self and live with others highly preferred.

Workload:

Our MediaWiki Developer will be in charge of creating mediawiki extensions tailored to Liquipedia. They will also be encouraged to propose and suggest potential upgrades and features that can improve the ease-of-use and presentation of our wikis. The MediaWiki Developer will work with our wiki team as well as our volunteers in cultivating a productive and efficient wiki environment.

Application Process:

To apply, please send us an email with your cover letter and resume to liquipedia+jobs@teamliquid.net with the subject line "Attn: MediaWiki Developer Application". Application period will end once the position has been filled.

Good luck!

im intriqued, but the job description isn't saying how high the expected salary is. Just ballpark. Relocating to Utrecht would be expensive for me.

Depending on your current status (working, unemployed) the state's gonna help you with moving. Quite a bit financially tbh.

It depends on how much experience an applicant has, if they would want us to organize the housing for them etc.

However there is a minimum wage in the Netherlands, https://www.expatax.nl/kb/article/what-is-the-minimum-wage-in-the-netherlands-in-2017-556.html so it will be at least that.

Working for TL would be a dream coming through, however I don't know if it would be a good idea to quit my current education for this.

Best of luck to all the applicants!

Strong understanding of web application security and secure coding practices.
Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, and LESS.
Excellent verbal and written English.
Previous experience as a MediaWiki developer is preferred.
A degree is not required but preferred.
Ability to take care of one's self and live with others highly preferred.

Uhm I guess I didn't make that very clear. I'm not saying it would be minimum wage. If you fulfill most requirements it would be a decent salary for someone with those skills.

Huh, that's interesting. Will the Liquipedia developer be potentially involved later on with non liquipedia stuff as well? I have soft spot for TL in general <3 but I wonder if switching to full time PHP / JS is good choice for me.

Developing for Liquipedia will be the main part of the job, but obviously if the person has the skills to help out with development on TL community or pro site (or mini sites etc) that might be something they'll be asked to do too to help out when other parts of the company needs help, but it would only be a small portion of the time.

Hopefully it's maintained very well. When picking up PHP projects two things I look for, how the architect designed the system, and documentation. WGTour was spaghetti, but worked lol.

Since we are working in an external framework with MEdiaWiki our code is pretty well split up, easy to find things etc.
