Not your real name, but your TL.net name or your Battle.net name. Where did it come from, how did you pick it, what does it mean, anything else about it you can think of - basically, the history of your name. Please limit to one Bnet name and one TL.net name - we don't want a page long explanation of twenty akas.
5HITCOMBO is actually my second account - the first one got banned. I got the name from watching some people I knew play that DBZ Budokai game where it counts off the hits in your combo - 1 HIT! 2 HIT! 3 HIT!... and eventually, after watching a bit, I noticed that they didn't put much room between the 5 and the "HIT!"... so it looked like "5HIT!", which I thought was hilarious. Thus, 5HITCOMBO was born.
ON_FIER came from NBA Jam, where if you made a bunch of baskets in a row without the other team scoring, the announcer guy would be like "HE'S ONNNN FIIIRREEE" and you would literally catch fire and get unlimited turbo. I laughed whenever I heard the phrase when I was a kid, and decided to internet it... and ON_FIER has been my aka since.
[edit] Don't forget to tell us what your name is on Bnet if it's not the same. [/edit]

oneofthem is an old name of mine. i used it for a rather brief period of time when i joined some forums. the 'them' actually refers to KOTOR, it is a political thing that i was committed to back then.
then when travian started i used ascelon. i have no idea why i used it, much less its significance. my travian nicks were better, zerg, operationcwal, ilovesea etc. good names for games and such.
now i use anselfir in all situations, for no particular reason again.

T.A.D. are my initials and Tad is a nickname some people call me. Tadzio is a polish name. The double 0s are the result of some invisible TL.net member already having claim to Tadzio.... no special significance beyond that.
My Bnet ID is Worst. It explains itself. I'm the worst StarcraftBW player in existence.

In 2004 when i moved back to Korea i got into sc and progaming seriously. On useast i played a tvt with a guy named Ilikestarcraft who basically took the whole map and put turrets everywhere. I seriously thought the guy had like mineral hack or something. My first taste of vsing someone on a complete level above me. When i typed GG i said Gosu? And he said no i suck. I've been lurking on tl september and october and i made an account called Ilikestarcraft. Thats why my id on bnet aim or others arent the same.
My bnet aim id is Cowboyspc94. Um i was an innocent little kid in 6th grade and this noona(older girl) from my church helped me make an aim sn and i was hooked to this song called Space Cowboy by Nsync(i know dont laugh ) So i saw if spacecowboy94 was taken it was so i picked one of the other choices. Cowboyspc94. 94 is not the year i was born i was born in 90 but it stands for my birthday September 4th.(the same as boxer^^)
edit. didnt read ts's post.

I used those three core names for as long as I can remember playing games with characters you could name. Eventually I decided that I'd just solidify it all into three letters that are much easier to remember. :p

Polemarch is the name of the leader of the army in ancient Greece. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=polemarch First came across the name in the book Ender's Game, and thought it both fit Starcraft and sounded cool.
On a related note, an Archon means a ruler in old Athens too.

Many many years ago I played a game on a website called kweeky.net. To sign up for it I needed an email address and when I made my first email address I had www.kweeky.net in the other window. When stuck for names I based it on that. Kweeky became Kwarky. Kwarky became Kwark.

Definitely never made a connection between rekrul and lurker .
Back in 2002 my email account got haxored and i needed a new account name. I had been watching Monty Python on and the Holy Grail and kept quoting it obnoxiously at inopportune moments (ie the middle of class). "I fart in your general direction Arthur King, you and your kennigits"...anyways yeah it stuck and ive been using it ever since for every forum/group i join.

i always enjoyed irony, so seeing as I hate when things explode and it really startles me, i made the name detonate on here. On bnet I have the name inept, which I am really not. I also like one word names which contributes to it to, i couldnt stand having a name like detonate293 or inept102 that would annoy me too much. even clan tags on my name is annoying unless it kind of blends in with the name

Named after the band Massive Attack. Although I don't really listen to them, I like the name very much; it is also a less known band, so I thought it would be ok to use the name. Battle net profile: minus_human. Inspired after song from Metallica; initially, I thought it had some strange or deep meaning to it, like "minus" for lack and "human" for humanity; lack of humanity, or something close to that, really inteligent and really expressive; BUT, I think it has no certain meaning, and I just like how it sounds

Well, i've been playing on teamliquid since 2003 and i've changed my name many times. but i think this should be the one i keep at last! i remember playing in Op Cal all the time but since i've changed my names so many times people didn't recognize me. yes, i do live in CA near hillsborough and burlingame.
anyways, the way i got this name was throwing my finger in the dictionary and choosing that name. some of you have said if i received it from a greek play? no.

I made mine TL.net name, when there were no reps, only strats written somewhere over the net ... I didn't have printer so i re-writed them on the paper, and instead of toss I always wrote toos [dunno why]... and so it began ... after that I added capital T and S and here I am this is also my name on almost all forums I am member of.
My reallife nickname is Lejs (pronounced like the Lays chips). It comes from my surname. Lehmann (spoken Leman [yeah like the keeper from Arsenal]). Some other day in my history class we got new teacher and I started arguing with her how to properly spell my name She thought it was Lejman (it sounds Layman) and I was Leman. After that my classmates started to call me Lejman, then Lejsman (Laysman) and finally it shortened to Lejs. But now, after few meetings with ppl from forums mentioned above, almost all of them call me TooS in real.
On b.net i use TooS or TiCaLLioN. The second is made from one of Method Mans nicks Ticalion Stallion. Little change and here it is. But now I prefer to use TooS.
|
Well Slained isn't an actual word but alot of people do think so. I was thinking of the gosus SlayerS_`BoxeR` and Slayer and thought of the past participle Slain. Then eventually since Slain was taken i took Slained, it has a nice sound to it, and makes you think of the cool undead too. Denials, Slained backwards I use often too. Stenole on bnet thinks of me as an evil zerg player so Slained goes well with it too ^^

Atriedes is the name for one of the houses in the book and RTS game 'Dune', which I used to love. (Actually it might be spelt Atreides but anyway.). Tom you can guess..

"Quint" was the name of the 5th boss in Mega Man 2 (and Mega Mans Brother) for the gameboy. Back then, I was a little bit startled when I realised that all the cool nicknames like "Fenix" or "Tassadar" were already been taken on Bnet, so I came up with Quint because the guy was cool.

I wanted a name relevant to StarCraft, since that was what I was playing. I didn't see anyone running around with XelNaga, so I started using it and it stuck.

Teddy Bear is ok but me and my friends would think of hilarious names we could use for Halo. "Your mom" "Your penis", "Your girlfriend" were among them. It would end up like "YOUR PENIS WAS FRAGGED BY YOUR MOM". And we would burst out laughing.

Ethenielle is a borderland queen in Wheel of Time, so it's a direct ripoff I guess.
Using hiiaman[oob] on bnet partly because I want to prepare people for what will come and partly because it's funny to see how many people who doesn't get it. Well maybe it's not so obvious, but for me it is.:p

gLyo is some generic lame ass name I thought of really quick so I could post a single post on TL. Unfortunatley, I kept posting with it and now I am stuck.
I use mad_Rhetoric in StarCraft cause I saw it on a kick ass Toonami music video sort of thing. If you ever watched Toonami, you probably have seen it.
For everything else I use eroStar. Eros is the god of love, or a general term for erotica, so it sort of means porn star in a roundabout way.

GrandInquisitor
New York City13113 Posts
From Wikipedia:
The Grand Inquisitor is a parable told by Ivan to Alyosha in Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel, The Brothers Karamazov (1879-1880). The Grand Inquisitor is an important part of the novel and one of the best-known passages in modern literature because of its ideas about human nature and freedom, and because of its fundamental ambiguity.
In the tale, Christ comes back to earth in Seville at the time of the Inquisition. Jesus performs a number of miracles (echoing miracles from the Gospels). The people recognize Him and adore Him, but He is arrested by Inquisition leaders and sentenced to be burned to death the next day. The Grand Inquisitor visits Him in His cell to tell Him that the Church no longer needs Him. The main portion of the text is the Inquisitor explaining to Jesus why His return would interfere with the mission of the church.
The Inquisitor frames his denunciation of Jesus around the three questions Satan asked Jesus during the temptation of Christ in the desert. These three are the temptation to turn stones into bread, the temptation to cast Himself from the Temple and be saved by the angels, and the temptation to rule over all the kingdoms of the world. The Inquisitor states that Jesus rejected these three temptations in favor of freedom. The Inquisitor thinks that Jesus has misjudged human nature, though. He does not believe that the vast majority of humanity can handle the freedom which Jesus has given them. Thus, he implies that Jesus, in giving humans freedom to choose, has excluded the majority of humanity from redemption and doomed humanity to suffer.
Ivan indicates that the Inquisitor is an atheist. After a lifetime of pursuing God, he has given up in frustration. He is nevertheless left with his love of humanity and desire to see humanity not suffer. Despite declaring the Inquisitor to be an atheist, Ivan also implies that the Inquisitor and the Church follow "the wise spirit, the dread spirit of death and destruction," i.e. the Devil, Satan, for he, through compulsion, provided the tools to end all human suffering and unite under the banner of the Church. The mulitude then is guided through the Church by the few who are strong enough to take on the burden of freedom. The Inquisitor says that under him, all mankind will live and die happily in ignorance. Though he leads them only to "death and destruction," they will be happy along the way. The Inquisitor will be a self-martyr, spending his life to keep choice from humanity. He states that "Anyone who can appease a man's conscience can take his freedom away from him."
The segment ends when Christ, who has been silent throughout, kisses the Inquisitor on his "bloodless, aged lips" (22) instead of answering him. On this, the Inquisitor releases Christ but tells him never to return. Christ, still silent, leaves into "the dark alleys of the city." Not only is the kiss ambiguous, but its effect on the Inquisitor is as well. Ivan concludes, "The kiss glows in his heart, but the old man adheres to his ideas."

purind - Purin = Jigglypuff. Purin was already taken so I randomly added a letter after it (at the time, every single name I made was Jigglypuff related)
bnet names: NoKnuckles - Well, I have the ability to bend my fingers backwards, and when I do that, my knuckles lump inside my hands and you can't see them, hence NoKnuckles
Sushi[MBL] - on the gamefaqs boards, I go by the name SushiQuina. Quina is the most badass FF9 character (yeah, I was playing FF9 at the time I made that account), and I was watching this Japanese show (dubbed in Chinese) about this dude that wants to become the best sushi master so he enters this huge sushi tournament and competes with these evil sushi chefs. As a kid one of my favourite books was Spectre of the black rose. In it there was a character named the bloody cobbler. Basically if you were corrupt, or evil, broke the law etc... he would appear and kill you, and take the soles of your feet. Since he would just appear and kill you, and it was a rather interesting sounding name i adopted it for my bnet tag around the point bw came out as at the time i thought it was a fitting name for dark templars which were my favourite unit.

Ive had many nicknames, ill put em in order of appearence.
C345 - My very first nickname, ohh the tears. I dont know what the fuck this means. Seriously. I just remember ive had friends that started using this kind of names too. C500 C700 C100 C999. And they really used em, it wasnt just a joke.
Dictator Terror Havok Behemoth - Long nickname huh? I used it in HL - TFC and y pretty much liked it, cause i could just say "ok tomorrow im just Dictator" and everyone knew it was me.
When i got back to SC, i used just Behemoth. then i used Dr.Greenthumb cause of the cypress hill song.
Then just changed to Havok, wich was something i used in TFC.
Now Im actually Saga cause of the Geminis saint in saint seiya :p. I think im keeping this one for a good while.

the main reason i chose it wasn't so much that i agreed with one side or the other, but because i liked the subtle literary reference to such a great scene in general. bad reason, i know, but now everyone knows me as grandinquisitor so it's kind of hard to change

I got the name Haemonculus from way back when I was really into warhammer 40k. The army I played had these torture-masters called Haemonculi. I stole the name.
Other aliases I've gone by are Fat_Badger, and Trans_Fatty_Badger, which is like trans fatty acids, only with badgers. I can't really recall the origin of those two.

A few years ago my friends needed a fourth person to play Halo with them, so I needed to quickly create an account on my friends xbox. I chose the armor color yellow, so thats where lemon came from, and let's face it, walrus is just fun to say, so I became Lemonwalrus. It's just kindof stuck since then. All of my ID's are either that or some combination of rapp and b, my last name and first initial, respectively. Damn, I kinda wish I had an awesome story to go along with this name, but I don't think I have ever even seen a lemon and a walrus in the same place.

I joined a StarCraft forum in 2002 or 2003 to ask for mapping assistance. I couldn't make the nuking AI scripts from Emerald Placer work. However, I didn't want to be seen as weak or inept and I came up with Lord of Nukes. It was my first forum screen-name, I know it's rather lame but I'm known generically as LoN most places I go to in the Internet or Battle.net.
On Battle.net, I created a bunch of different accounts for different purposes. Every year I make a new account solely for 1v1s. This year's is Fiefdom, which was inspired by Kingdom. I thought Kingdom was an incredibly sexy screen-name but since it was obviously taken, I tried to come up with something suggesting a similar vibe. My backstabbing and UMS screen-names are IronJew and terRn_hIdraLIKs. I came up with IronJew with my friend on the spot, and I came up with terRn_hIdraLIKs trying to come up with a screen-name which would emit so much newbiness, nobody would suspect me as the backstabber. Otherwise, I end up using Lord.of.Nukes which was my account on the PGT, although I don't play as Lord.of.Nukes much at all anymore. I have some other random screen-names which aren't important enough to mention, most of them I randomly come up with and write down somewhere for future use, or I come up with them out of nowhere as with IronJew.

My name is Robert and one day, my friends started calling me Rupbar. Then I started using it on the internet, but because computers aren't very cool in real life, most people stopped calling me Rupbar. The ones who still call me Rupbar either knows me very well or not very much at all. Friends call me Rupbar because it's my nickname and some call me Rupbar without knowing that I use it on the internet.

My favorite music band is a Japanese band called L'Arc~en~Ciel, which means 'rainbow' (arc in the sky) in French. One of their singles is called 'Niji' which means rainbow in Japanese, thus it is a rather special song for them. I also really like it. :3
The z at the end of my TL name is because 'Niji' was already taken (I think I took it a while back but I can't login to it now >_<) and I have pretty much been a zerg player since I started SC almost 7 years ago.

About nine years ago I was a young boy attempting to think of my very first screen name. I didn't want any numbers at the end of it, so it took me a few tries. I thought of 'semioldguy' randomly as far as I can recall. I have stuck with it since, and use it everywhere. It has never been taken by anyone else wherever I go to use it.
Oh, and I still am not exactly all that 'semiold'

SweeTLemonS comes from nothing at all. People had weird names all the time on b.net, so I wanted a weird name that didn't make sense, too. Thus, SweeTLemonS was born. I just liked the way the capitalization looked, that's why those letters are capitalized.
I don't play on b.net anymore, but the tags I use for LAN's, and XBox Live are as such: BadMagick (For Live I have to put numbers there too), and JeezusJuice. BadMagick is a Godsmack song, and I think JeezusJuice is funny. (Obviously it comes from the Michael Jackson thing.)

The year of 2002 proved to be the beginnings of what would eventually turn into a career for Merge. He became actively involved at Scratch DJ Academy, a DJ school in New York founded by the late Jam Master Jay. Merge became Head Professor at the Academy where he then developed the curriculum now taught in every scratch/juggling class. He maintained his domination of DJ competitions in the United States. In the next 3 years (36 months) Merge won 35 battles, which factors out to winning 1 battle a month for 3 years straight.
Since 2002, Merge has won 9 national titles and 4 world titles, which is more championship titles in 3 years than any other DJ has accumulated in a lifetime. He has won every prominent National title in the US as well as world championship titles in every world DJ competition organization in existence. Ie.MERG’s most prestigious title came at the 2004 DMC World Championship. Ie.MERG became the first to beat 3 time would champion DJ Craze's record and successfully defend his DMC World Title in 2005.

P.S. This is not me although I am a turntablist as well. Scraching was my weak point in battles and in 2003 he inspired me to make it a focus instead of my already top level juggling skills.

Short for TheosExMechanes... Greek form of Deus Ex Machina (Latin)
It's from that game DeusEx, one of my old favorites. It means "God of Machines" (also fit because I loved to play Mech Terran all the time) but many people quite frequently interpret it as "The Sex Machine" especially when I don't emphasize with capital letters.
|
No, it means "God in Machine", which is a literary device used to get a writer out of plot holes. Examples of this? Read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
|
It can mean that, but it can mean many things.
Remember that Greek and Latin have been around for a while. As time passes, words can mean different things in different time periods. That said, even literal translations can be different from "common tongue" translations.
i.e. - It can also mean "Solution to everything"

As for the meaning of my name, ilovesil was nada's aka, and the first ever I saw of him or any programer, for that matter. At the time, I played solely on US east, but ilovesil was taken. s and z aren't too much different symbolwise, so I decided to take on ilovezil. A couple people noticed the true reason behind my name, but some people think like "ofc, it's because he loves zilch, meaning nothing!" And I just play along.

[/edit]
I always read SHITCOMBO when I see your name. I actually wanted to warn you for your name once, but then I realised it was a '5'. -_-

my actual nick in bnet and other places is Yakkul: the red elk, Ashitaka's mount in the movie Princess Mononoke. Simply liked how loyaly stupid it was in a moment i was at desbeleif at most things.
PePe QuiCoSE is a needlessly complicated way to write my name and only makes sense in spanish: Federico: ethimology -> Príncipe de la Paz (Prince of Peace) -> P.P. -> PePe by fonetics (in spansih) Miguez (Michelson): Son of Michael -> An Archangel in the bible that directed the final battle against Satanas whose name means "Who like God". God being known as "Lord of the Armies" so it can be also considered as "Who like the Lord of the Armies" -> in spanish: "Quien Como el Señor de los Ejercitos" (QUIen COmo el Señor de los Ejercitos)

Hippopotami are fearsome animals that can snap a crocodile in half and generally they're just bad motherfuckers. But people seem to think that hippos are these peacable animals. So I picked this name because of its meaning to me in particular.
