RULES:
+ Show Spoiler +
I thought I'd start an epic thread today, that promises to blow TL away! We'll write a poem full of heart and wit, with every user adding his own bit!

But 'fore we start to ideate and write, some helpful rules, now, must be brought to light:

1.) The writer should, for every single verse, conclude each lovely stanza he began. As such, the storyline shall thrive and grow, and not restrict the next inspired hand.
2.) Each stanza posted must make use of rhyme, though no specific sort must be obeyed. The masculine, and feminine, are fine, but so are slant and eye and interlaced. The pattern, too, is fully up to you. A couplet rocks, but quatrains also do!
3.) Iambic, too, is just a tad too strict. And many posts will break this rule, I know. So though with dactyls I shant interdict, please try your best to keep a decent flow.
4.) The final technicality is this: The poem is to be an EPIC tale! So while you speak of woe and bliss, you must maintain a plotline without fail!

So now, go exercise your bardic might!
We're pumped and ready... Let us start to write!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They said the grass was somehow greener there,
but she never quite believed it to be true.
They were the very ones whose tarry sky
was once their beloved shade of blue.
She'd seen the images of the outer world.
Countless horizons full of turquoise trees.
But what were they really... but cellular
blocks adrift upon molecular seas.
And what was grand about the mind?
Just neurons bound in chains... each miniature row.
There was no magic in complexity...
No consciousness that she could not control.
Apart from the genetic bits and bytes.
From what art was the ancient's awe derived?
But today was not a day for idle thought.
"Lord Cerebrate, your armies have arrived."
are we supposed to continue what you started there or just start from scratch?
Also, let's agree on which kind of rhymes we'll be using.. A,B,A,B or A,B,C,B orrrrr???
It doesn't matter which kind of rhyme, per my instructions. And the rhyming pattern, whether it be ABAB ABCB, ABBA, doesn't matter since you're doing complete stanzas. BTW, this is obviously not my homework.
Your poem had some nice stanzas, but overall I felt they didn't relate to each other.
Sometimes we run into the dark so that we may be found.
It was not much, just six zerglings she saw,
but time could not have better for her been,
for as the fog of war parted for her,
she saw the Terran barracks just begin.
To what occasion I should write this poem?
For though I often choose this form,
Never have I here at my home
thought to write to liquid. Torn....
Sorry... I was just trying to plant some seeds and do a brief description of some setting to give people something to work with. It does not attempt to be a complete poem... only cursory fragments that somebody, later, will bind together!
The zerglings danced around their SCV's
And tore them into bits with deadly claws
And as the dawn broke all anyone saw
A tattered terran banner in the breeze
Where'er you walk cool gales shall fan the glade
It's outside the rules of the game, but I just completed an Pseudo Iambic Pentameter poem for my english class and it's starcraft inspired, kinda long though
+ Show Spoiler +
Where amongst the crowd, the good become great.
Where immortals they become from among the state.
Where the Legends may come to fall, or be
Forever enshrined in the mystery
Of The Legend of The Fall.
Where those who were once great become young again,
And where those who are young, begin their campaign.
Where new legends are crafted, sacred art,
Where old are celebrated for their part.
Where the swarm of those appreciating,
Descend upon the fortress, defending,
From the race of those, unfamiliar,
With the sweet, thought of things familiar.
A race of beings that hath not a heart,
but unified will to tear them apart.
A brood of creatures who hath not a soul,
But unified will to devour whole.
There stands our character, taken aback;
By the statues of men who drove them back.
Simply dominant were those here enshrined,
Leaders for all, and for all of mankind.
There is so much history here indeed,
He hath found himself dazed by the speed
By which he took in it all, great triumph
Most famous of history, The Triumph!
The first Emperor stood, above the rest,
Swarm not yet defeated, vigilance was best!
The swarm was not to stop, unrelenting,
they shall be back, tactics reinventing.
And there he was, sitting worryingly,
At that point in time, an understudy.
The toughest choice, hath he ever make
The throne from his master, he had to take.
Though his master was dominant, old was he;
Unable to change, for the times extreme.
Civil war descendyth throughout the land!
Much blood spilled for only for the land.
The land! who shall be the guardyth of thee,
it shall be no other, the understudy.
There he stood triumphant over master,
A tear shed, remembered ever after.
Then stirred the swarm, despair the enemy!
A moment of weakness saw they, blood thirsty,
Only to be destroyed, understudy
Triumphant!
But there he was very pensive, at the thought,
kill his master had he, but wish he did not.
His master refused to adapt, stubborn
But the swarm bore down, enemies forsworn!
His new tactics, genius, enemy destroyed,
But wondering at all what hath been avoid.
And our character stood in remembrance
of this history and belligerence.
History was his master, one and all,
but today was the day most famous of all.
He heard them coming, a swarm true for all,
He watched it coming, the city to fall.
With all his strength, try as he tried,
he simply could not reverse the tide.
And as he die, his last words to fall:
"Though this last speech will be but mystery,
I'm going to go down in history.
The very last great one, the hardest to fall,
I will be the greatest legend of all."
This is the best I could come up with:
A red rivulet
in sincere regret
runs over top
my clammy alabaster palms.
Not lady-like for half the night.
In short: I banged your mom.
While many of the contributions so far have been good, I think this is sort of a fail thread. As the OP, I am clearly the one at fault. Mods plz close
It's time I come up front to bear a truth,
around this juncture low I felt, a fool,
if frankness holds. How could I know a pool
at four would leave me quaking in this booth?
(I don't have much experience with iambic pentameter, so I might be a little bit off. Great thread idea.)
EDIT: @ above post: No way! At least let it go for a while. I'd like to add some more for sure.
My head in hands, lamenting, while the git
hip thrusts and struts. A loss, my squad goes straight
to take a bow. A consolation late-
er drink, I'm left to feel so decrepit.
