I was just picking a substance that doesn't react too well with water (Na + H2O = highly exothermic reaction), since OP seemed rather incredulous that an explosion could happen in the presence of water when it hadn't already done so without any water. Sodium is basically the perfect counter example. No water: no explosion. Water: explosion. I have no idea what (if any) other substances (aside from Potassium, etc) may exhibit such properties. Chemistry is not my field and I claim no expertise there. But the existence of at least a few substances that lead to explosions in (and because of) the presence of water leads my layman's mind to think there could be others. | ||
