My impractical wish list?

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8. I really really really need a mid-range zoom lens.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. Great image quality and great focal length for shooting sports and narrow angle shots.

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II. Just to round things out, a super wide-angle (:

Canon 580EX II Speedlite: I would LOVE to have this one, but I'll probably have to settle for a 430.

I also need a couple more hard drives, and I would love a second monitor.

I can dream.

what a great thread DJEtter!

Well, last Christmas i got a broom. that's it. Christmas sure has changed since i was a kid (and was spoiled rotten).

So this year, i'm keeping it [still] simple:

Dry Measuring Cups. I just found out recently that dry measuring cups and liquid measuring cups are actually different measurements (or so i'm told).

Bed Sheets. I only have 1 pair and they're for a queen size bed and i only have a double.

I love these pens. I want a package of them.

i listened to the audio version, but i'd like the book version! (it's great by the way)

-Canon 50D or Nikon D300 or Canon EOS 5D, or really any "better than entry-level" DSLR camera.

-A 1TB external hard drive (any brand will do) so I can download more anime. Seriously, I've totally filled up my computer's 320GB harddrive and another 250GB external with (mostly) anime. I'm such a nerd :3

-A new cellphone, maybe a Blackberry Storm or something. My current cellphone is so lame.

i don't think i'll ever end up getting anything on this list though (at least not any time soon) T_T

My pianothingie:

For some reason, the lower notes tend to be louder than the higher notes, so it makes me question "is this the right note" because the music sounds different.

So I'd like a new one... one that changes volume depending on how hard you press the key.

There lives another! I'm so proud. Yes, it's not the fabled old school damascus, but the appearance mimics it -- hence the popular usage of damascus to describe the folded exterior. I didn't want to baffle anyone by getting into the specifics of the production method, haha.

A few custom makers hand-fold different types of steel together in order to arrive at a pattern welded steel with superior wear-resistance, and they make the entire blade out of that new steel, rather than cladding it as in the santoku above. Apparently the different steels in the pattern welded steel wear at different rates, which naturally leads to tiny micro-serrations that allow the blade to stay sharp -- not as sharp as without the serrations, but sharp -- longer. It's all very interesting. I'm no metallurgist, though. I just love the Japanese carbon steels. They get sharp so, so easily and stay that way for a long time when given the proper heat treatment.
