That was a really, really cool vid! Such a step up form the claws activated through muscle contractions (which are still crazy as far as I'm concerned)
Their are four errors in this sentance.

This is pretty neat

On "immortality:" unless they make you an artificial brain too, extending your lifespan just means you'll live long enough to get Alzheimer's.

There's a thread regarding human immortality, maybe next stop to immortality is resurrection..

LOL! I'm talking out of my ass when I said resurrection !
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

On a very basic level this shouldn't be too unusual - we are already able to stimulate our nerves and induce much more complex sensations, like hearing with cochlear implants and even the recent trials with vision with cameras.

It is even somewhat disappointing to me that all we are able to do so far is just limited sensitivity in a couple of points. Please get me out of stasis again when we are able to do full skin surface with realistic pressure level sensitivity and temperature and all that, with stimulation of the brain directly, bypassing the peripheral nerves and even the spinal cord.

No, sorry, I didn't want to downplay the significance of this. It is a fine step and I am glad that such research is finally picking up the pace. This is one area of research that will bring revolutionary changes eventually, and I can hardly wait. LOL, am I a dreamer or what?

Yeah surely creating an artificial heart isn't THAT difficult. I mean a pacemaker already recreate the electronic pulses needed to simulate the muscular walls to actually contract and pump blood round the system. So surely all that needed to be added was a synthetic pump and valve mechanism?

Anyway, can any biologists comment on this? I'm curious about the actual science behind it. What are the future implications?

but why get a real one when you can get a robotic one that's 10 times as powerful!

Exactly. This will bring plastic surgery to a whole new level.

Doctor: So, what did you have in mind?
Ugly fuck: Well, my boobs are a bit small, ass is kind of sloppy and my head is kind of out or proportion.
Doctor: Lucky you, today we have a special offer containing a boobjob, an assjob and a headjob. For just $5000!

Ha! A pun!

I've always been interested in robotics; and this is really fascinating The fact that we have control over a machine with our brain as if it were are own... sounds like science fiction.
seriously next disrespectful comment in this blog is ip ban. Be happy or get the hell out. // SC2 is like playing with neutral-colored Play-Doh while BW is like colorful Legos.

Then I'd rather have them discover something that makes you're body deteriorate slower. Or maybe transferred to a new body with everything else being the same.

You would rather have a normal, young healthy body? You could have a giant robot body! Or at least robot limb. Think FMA.

Yes, think FMA. Where he spends the entire series trying to get his normal, young, healthy body back to replace his robot limb. lolz

Science is really cool when you don't have to be the one spending hundreds and hundreds of hours tweaking and perfecting it.

There's no such thing as perfecting science, that's the beauty of it. Every trial and error may reveal something. Flemming found penicillin by mistake, look how much that advanced modern medicine. Who knows how far this advancement might take us. Exponential times my friend.

crazy.
technically, this is a very rudimentary recreation of a basic feedback loop but to have gotten even here is really, really amazing. just a few years ago we were impressed with one-way interfaces, and now we can actually 'perceive' via machinery!

when we finally understand the brain (lol) in a few thousand years, the applications are going to be unbelievable. beyond just turning yourself into a gundam, i'm imagining completely new sensory systems where you will feel the data instead of having to read it from a layout. very neuromancer-ish, really

intrigue, a few thousand years? lol
it will happen before the end of this century... possibly even while we are still alive.

think about it, once we get past our initial taboos and start dabbling with invasive brain-computer interfaces we will be learning things about our brains much faster than we do now. we will probably merge mind with technology very soon after that critical point.

understanding the brain and interfacing with it are not the only revolutionary advances that are about to come this century. nanotechnology, genetics, biology and medicine all hold possibilities of very dramatic breakthroughs in the near future. exponential growth of computational power is a given even today, but photonics, spintronics and especially quantum computing advancements in the near future will boost it to a completely different level.
all of those fields will help one another and help in our understanding of the brain as well.

technology in general is improving exponentially, and a lot of people expect what is called "technological singularity" some time very soon. what that means is that we will get so much revolutionary advancements that will change us and our world to a degree beyond what anyone today can probably imagine or predict.
