Hello TL.net friends!

ZeroSpace is out in Early Access today! We believe deeply in the product we've built, and I hope those of you who give it a try find it to be a fresh homage to the genre we all love.

The Orion Sector is open. Jump into the campaign as Prefect Aster, hold the line against endless waves of Grell in Survival, climb the ranked ladder, compete for territory in Galactic War Season Zero, or test new strategies in skirmish. Download the game and begin shaping ZeroSpace on the road to 1.0.

Download ZeroSpace

If you enjoy the game, the most helpful thing you can do is leave a review on Steam. Positive reviews have the single biggest impact on visibility for us on Steam. Higher visibility brings in more players, and that support is what allows us to keep improving and expanding the game.

What You Can Play Today:

Campaign Act 1: 12 missions as Prefect Aster of The Protectorate. Your decisions carry weight across the story.

Galactic War: 10 co-op missions in a persistent, seasonal mode where alliances compete for control of the Orion Sector.

- Survival: Team up with a friend and hold out against endless waves of Grell.
- Ranked: 1v1 and 2v2 ladder.
- Skirmish: 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all against friends or AI.
- Four factions are fully playable at launch: The Protectorate, the Grell, the Legion, and the Xol (the new synthetic civilization available for the first time).
- Six mercenary factions can be mixed in to expand your army options. The Xol are in an earlier stage of development and will join ranked matchmaking once community balance feedback is incorporated.
- Supported languages at launch: English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.

Roadmap

We will be shipping regular updates throughout Early Access. The image below highlights some of the upcoming changes and features currently planned. Updated roadmaps will continue to be released as development progresses. For the most current information, join our Discord.

Galactic War: Season Zero Is Underway

Season Zero runs from July 20 through August 2.

Players choose one of three alliances led by Winter, Neo, or uThermal. Every co-op match contributes influence for your chosen side, expanding territory across the galactic map. At the end of the season the alliance with the highest score crowns its creator the first Galactic Emperor.

Participants unlock exclusive portraits and titles. The winning alliance also helps determine the global reward for all players and influences the theme of a future season. A community clip contest is open for players who capture standout moments (Medal.tv and similar tools work well) - top submissions featuring the creators can win cash prizes.

ZeroSpace: First Contact Invitational

To celebrate our Early Access launch, twelve legendary RTS veterans are going to compete in the First Contact Invitational for a combined $13,000 prize pool: b]Harstem, MaNa, GiantGrantGames, Nathanias, PiG, MarineLorD, TheViper, Lowko, JimRising, UpATree, White-Ra, and JuggernautJason.[/b] Will race up the ranked ladder from July 20 through August 8.

A dedicated invitational leaderboard ranks them against one another, with ladder placement awarding both seeding in a final tournament and cash prizes.
The final tournament will take place Sunday, August 9 at 6:00 PM CEST / 9:00 AM PDT, broadcast live on Wardi’s stream.
Format: 12-player Swiss stage (best-of-2), top four advancing to a playoff bracket with best-of-3 semi-finals and a best-of-5 grand final.

Many of the invitees will stream their ladder games. Join the ladder yourself, follow their streams, and submit your best clips for the community contest.

Thank You

We want to s everyone who backed the project, tested early builds, or followed along through development, ZeroSpace exists because of that support. We are excited to finally share it with you and to keep building it together from here.
See you in the Orion Sector.

On a personal note, I want to say that if it wasn't for this community in particular, I would've had a completely different life.
It's here's that I grew into wanting to compete in video games over many years, and that's the path that brought me to today. I'm happy that I got to help build what I think is a cool new RTS and excited to share it. Really hope some or many of you will enjoy the game!

Look forward to giving it another whirl! Campaign was too janky to give a serious try in the beta I tried, but co-op looked like it had a lot of promise.

The Galactic Map season thing is very ambitious and very cool. I hope it is a smash hit. I loved the global map warfare in C&C3: Kane's Wrath.

The game is great.
I can honestly tell just how much work has been put into it, each alpha/beta has such a massive change between them.
The campaign is a bit short at the moment, but everything else is great.

Hopefully it gets picked up by a broader audience as well.

I am seeing some discussions about the game in chinese forums.
Also wanderbots is a good channel, you picked a great one sponsoring, And the scarlet seeker (one of the few reviewers I really watch) also just done a review.
Pretty decent reach I would say!

Just wanted to share some first impressions after playing some customs as Grell.

- Really solid gameplay and feel.
- The game runs smooth on my laptop (I am playing on Bazzite Linux via Proton).
- Art and sound direction are decent, but still missing some polish in my opinion, especially the battle sound effects felt a bit weak and not memorable to me (at least Grell). The music I heard was pretty nice though.
- The UI is very janky, especially on 16:10 monitor the layout if often visibly broken.

I think the game has great potential, despite being in pretty rough state for EA. It is probably the first RTS since SC2 that makes me want to invest time to discover/learn build orders (I was not expecting that!).

I am avoiding the campaign until at least 1.0 to get the best experience possible, but I hope to jump on some multiplayer this weekend!

Visually this looks very solid, makes me wanna try it, although unfortunately I have very little time to invest nowadays.
I put it on my wishlist and will keep it in mind when I get more time.
I'll definitely check out the tournament!

Coop seems like a nice incremental improvement from when I last tried with a new commander and a bunch of new missions. For someone who just wants 'SC2 coop with some new commanders,' it scratches that itch (esp love the Legion commander).

Stormgate was actually pretty good in that regard, but sadly they abandoned coop entirely to pursue building out other parts of the game. I really hope zerospace prioritizes fleshing out galactic war and commander customization, which are the elements that actually feel like they're building on the solid, sc2-derived base.

Game is really fun! 1vs1 is constant action, heroes and mercenaries bring a lot of variety to every game. Units and abilities are fun to use. There is much to try out and discover. Game runs butter smooth on epic settings on a laptop.

This is something other games don't have and it could be an ongoing revenue stream so yes, this is 100% the part where they should concentrate on. That and campaign.

Speaking of coop, is a coop campaign planned somewhere down the line? To me this is what a lot of RTS are missing, especially when seeing a chart that shows >2/3 of players never trying anything else than campaign. I think if you already have interest in the campaign and get to play it with a friend, you are more likely to also try another coop mode or even 2v2. I think there is a missing link between what most people play RTS for and a way to make it easier for them to engage with competitive modes.

I don't think coop campaign has that big an audience. Campaign beeing a continuous mode is rather hindering it. One would always have to wait for the other, right? Normal coop you can play 2,3 or 6 games together. And in this case go for galactic warfare as ongoing mode.

Coop has a huge audience in story-based games. I don't know why it would be different in RTS. There are also options to address issues like "one would need to wait for the other", such as seperate save games. In Solasta for example, you make characters at the start and play the campaign. You can load any save state into multiplayer and invite friends and assign characters. Each player can save at any point during play and use their save state to start a single player or multi player session.

Maybe it's just me then but when I play a campaign/ story, i want to experience the whole thing in my tempo not load into someone elses game who has done this and that part already that I am now missing and get spoilered on.
Coop story/ campaing for a second+ playthrough okay I'm fine with if playing the story more than once is your thing.
"Story" games like "It takes two" are not comparable here IMO. I highly doubt there are many who can play RTS games with their significant other.
Overall agree to disagree with you

I mean, you are also not a casual andy. I'm talking about the 2/3 of players that only play the campaign of an RTS and leave.

Aside from that, I feel like your assessment just comes from a general sense that you are personally not very interested in campaign coop? Your issues with coop seem to translate to just as well to story-based RPGs like Baldur's Gate or am I mistaken? And for those, people always ask for co-op to play with a friend or with their significant other. You also don't have to jump into a different game state? It's up to you. You can have a game state you only play with a friend and another one you play alone if you wish to do so.

For me personally, I also prefer the solo experience - if the story and atmosphere is good. The problem is, often it is just ok and that's just not enough for me. After playing the Wings of Liberty Campaign I had zero interest to play the following campaigns. If there was a coop it, I may have tried it. Divinity:OS 1+2 were amazing in coop, we had so much fun. However, I don't think I would have finished either game solo because the story itself was imho lacking. What I'm getting at is that there are a lot of different people and while I think a lot of people are like you and just prefer the solo experience, at the same time there is a significant portion that likes to play coop and is looking for coop games. Those two are not mutual exclusive.

I mean, I love coop play in general. Just not in a story rich enviroment.
I can't be arsed to play Helldivers alone, but give me 1-3 friends and I happily play for hours. As I get older, this is slowly leaking into my competitive playtime: I very, very rarely queue for a 1v1 ladder game but I do love me some 2v2 time.

So yes, to summarize: I am not interested at all in a Zerospace coop campaign. And neither is anyone I know.
Add to that the dedicated (endless) mode created especially for coop play and a coop audience, I have a hard time seeing the necessity.

I think the problem with RTS games is that a design for Coop worsens the game for single player. The AI has to take the secondary base or your APM requirements skyrocket. Perhaps you could cut the map in half, but once again that puts constraints on the map design and worsens single player.

A game such as Divinity Original Sin is turn based with multiple characters. It easily slots into one or more players by default. For real time titles with one character it gets messy, perhaps the Archon mode (multiple players controlling one base and its units) could work but would likely be boring for multiple players. The problem in any real time game made for both single player and multiple players is how to design engaging gameplay for both unless the AI taking over is great.

Red Alert 3 is a good example of this. The design for coop makes the game worse in single player.

Though to be fair you have the Diablo like genre where multiple players are handled through increased difficulty, so the game can be designed to work that way but it would require more work in RTS titles.

Nothing wrong with more options but a possibility of co-op campaign wasn't advertised strongly so far and there is little reason to suspect it would generate enough interest to justify prioritizing its development over sp campaign, galactic co-op, survival mode or a even the "hardcore" versus mode.

I can't see how coop campaign can work, because it's a more RPG heavy RTS campaign.
Even if the game has some match up where it's 2vX and you can replace AI partner with a human player, it doesn't sound very easy to implement.

But I wouldn't mind a small side story with coop campaign, I would rather a multi stage coop vs AI model though

I bought the game yesterday, I've only played a tutorial so far but from what I've seen on YT it looks very promising! I like how the econony gets rid of a bunch of busywork/micromanagement.

Galactic War mode is getting really fun, there's a few huge power spike which makes it as fun if not more fun than sc2 coop.

Desperately need more UI polish however.
the build on galaxy mechancis is not very clear, I haven't worked out how to grind for which resources.

I haven't gotten the game yet but I did start to get the same rush when I would play that I would from StarCraft which is a pretty difficult sensation to obtain any other game. I was only playing 1v1 Ladder and as I started to understand the economy / macro / hero units / strategies it became actually very interesting because of how fast paced the game is in 1v1 I think potentially, with the fact that you have to be able to micro well a lot and still macro, even if it is simplified in some ways.

I can see it being played at a high level competitively with the main focus being micro as the builds and macro will be stream lined due to the how the economy / macro works.

This is all in theory but just what I THINK will happen at competitive level, if people are going to attempt to play this game at a professional level, which I can absolutely see this game becoming an ESport in the future.

I think it will lead to really fast paced battles constantly, a ridiculous amount of unit control / micro constantly, and that will lead to some amazingly entertaining matches.

I'm interested to see how they will balance the game per race and per mercenary combinations / etc, that seems like quite the difficult thing to do, and once a certain combination is discovered that is OP, then it seems like a pretty difficult thing to accomplish to be able to achieve relatively close balance, within the races / mercinaries.

Not saying it's not possible, but it will be very interesting and fun to watch this game progress, excited for its future.

An interesting thing for balance could be to forbid mirror matchups. That means you would run into different matchups and force different compositions even if one turns out short term optimal against one race. Though since a large amount of the 1vs1 players are optimization focused they would dislike not playing their race occasionally.

I really enjoyed the campaign so far - but i guess there's only about 5-6 missions complete with all the voiced dialogue? Looking forward to finishing the rest. Co-op has also been fun and I haven't even started 1v1 yet... I guess I should!

The biggest issue with the game right now for me are queue times. Seems there is not enough people playing for the amount of modes available, so players are spread thin between coop, campaign, 1v1, 2v2, survival...
I waited 40 minutes for 2v2 yesterday at one point. 1v1 sometimes is instant, but at some hours it can take several minutes.

It's really a shame because game is very fun, I want to play more :D

But also, can't blame people for being cautious. Game is not really cheap and it's still in a pretty rough state, especially the UI can be frustrating.
