It's just the nature of the genre that any APM savings in one place will quickly get allocated somewhere else. Just like how BW-elitists complained that multiple building selection/production would make SC2 'easier', but in reality SC2 just became hard in a different way (a continuous harssment/defense multitasking test). Ultimately, your only choice is WHERE you want to be spending your many clicks and key presses.
Random side-bar from the above: I think one of BW's greatest strengths as a viewer esport is that players' decisions on where to allocate their APM was way more apparent for casual viewers, so it was easier to disintinguish ppl's styles as macro or micro players.
This is a good point and to me only makes a greater case for doing it the more manual, Brood War way, without copying it exactly. In terms of a teaching tool, it feels better to have these granular blocks like seeing your workers pile up at your HQ and understanding you've been away for a while, or having the 12 unit selection remind you that your army is getting big and should be split up, or putting more thought into where you put your buildings because you have to look at them to macro.

Apparently coming out in like 90 years. I tried looking for what D.O.R.F. means and couldn't find it in the obvious places. People who don't qualify their acronyms should be tossed down the shaft like Palpatine.
I joined as part of the Dev Team for this new up & coming RTS called "Power Play" , it is very similar to C&C (Command & Conquer) with faster unit movement / responsiveness (micro is possible) / a lot of QOL improvements, check it out guys!
Right now it only has Skirmish vs AI & a Campaign, with a steamplay workshop also, it is actually really hype and I am enjoying it a lot more than a lot of other new RTS, for real check it out dudes!
I must say, I quit SC2 for good this time, just no incentive to play and learn again and again for some BS that a cluster of units can be gone in a split second without looking.
And in general RTS has this issue linear, memorize strat/timing, execution to perfection.
It's fun when it's new and a lot of people, but nowadays rarely a RTS can gather the crowd again, at all. Plus, it's the same recipe every game...... ouch. :S

Hey, that's basically the reason I quit SC2 back in 2011. Sounds like nothing has changed.
I'm actually replaying KKnD 1 & 2 on Steam since they got a patch now that helps with modern resolutions. Liquid nostalgia straight into my veins. Afterwards I might replay Z (pronounced ZED) from bitmap brothers, or Tzar: Burden of the Crown, or Cossacks or Warlords Battlecry 3. Could also go for some Battle for Middle Earth 1 & 2 as well as Dark Colony since all 3 seem to be abandonware are this point (at least I can't find a way to re-buy them legitimately nowadays) So many great forgotten RTSes out there, anyone else have recommendations and where to find them? I guess I have 3 months to kill since Dawn of War 4 has been delayed until mid December.
That's the aussie team's thing right? Pretty sure the goal was making a pseudo Age of Empires clone.
Showcasing some box art/cinematic battles with no actual micro of the units doesn't do it for me. Especially one with things that function as hero units. Just tells me they don't even have an identity picked out yet. Are we making an auto-battler or more traditional RTS?
I don't forsee it offering anything new. My assumption ins that it'll end up falling in the AoE3 realm for gameplay, which depending on who you ask is good or bad.
But with no identity guiding it and zero actual gameplay footage combined with wanting or planning to release by the end of next year just screams dead on arrival to me.
Might be paywalled and is in German but it's an in depth preview. It is much, much more than just an AoE clone and has a lot of potential. But also still quite a lot of work to be done

last time I bought a AOE clone, was fun for 1 week, then player pop went to 0 cannot find anyone to play
There are some b rolls footage. There are some interesting mechanics like wild fire can hurt both armies apparently. And the abilities are not overwhelming flashy. Big units are impactful etc. At least they got these right.

its the buying thats the problem. Gotta play the free stuff where the rats live, shit like War Selection on steam will always have players because its free.
Havent played in years but the monetization system was just paying to unlock 'modern era' civs sooner, so you can play everything up until modern era for free, and then you start with a 'default' modern era that is pretty decent generally just doesn't have a strategic niche. And you can (or at least could) unlock the good civs without too much grinding.
Good shit for a FFA or team game romp. Do recommend, esp with buddies.

Dude is talking through a folger's can at the bottom of a swimming pool. But I'm glad we now know DORF means Dopamine Orangutans Require Friends wow. So cool.
Some of the lighting looks alright like right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Hj7um8b5k&t=1030s but the saturated blue and orange glows on the muzzles and lightning look poor. Even if they looked good I'd say get rid because it's distracting.
In general I think a flatly lit 2D game with wild animation and wicked sound would have made this great on its own, and all these extra bells and whistles just weigh it down. Feels like a case of massive feature creep but it's not my project and people seem to be fully on board. I might try it, not sure. The NWO faction looked cool. Powersuits. Dayum.
