Today marks the start of FACEIT's $275,000 league for 2015. The league will be split between three stages over the period of nine months. The first and second stages will conclude with LAN events and decide which teams will continue to the next stage, while the third stage will culminate in the Grand Finals event. The European, North American and Oceanic leagues will be running in parallel, with teams from each of the regions earning invites to the LAN events, featuring a total of eight teams at each. The available seats in each LAN event will be split between the top five teams of Europe, the top two of North America and the winner of the Oceanic League. The 2015 League also features an improved promotion/demotion system. At the end of Stage 1 and 2, each region’s two bottom teams will be demoted to closed qualifiers for the next stage. The closed qualifiers will include invited teams and qualified community challengers that made it through open qualifier matches and satellite events hosted on FACEIT.com on a weekly basis. ![[image loading]](https://trello-attachments.s3.amazonaws.com/54c8546526fc3b823d1a940f/736x150/7582be785105e0a19b5d2c4ab75cad2d/faceit_04.jpg) Europe: Fnatic Team EnVyUs Ninjas in Pyjamas Virtus.pro Team SoloMid Titan Natus Vincere LGB eSports North America: Cloud9 Team Liquid Counter Logic Gaming Mythic eLevate SapphireKelownaDotCom Oceania: Vox Eminor Team Immunity The Chiefs Streamline Avant Garde TRIDENT ![[image loading]](https://trello-attachments.s3.amazonaws.com/54c8546526fc3b823d1a940f/736x149/66f457d18bffdbe1b4ae64a1ab485e69/faceit_06.jpg) Teams from Europe and North America will face each team in their region twice, playing a home and away match. The away team drops two maps from the map pool (Cache, Cobblestone, Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke and Overpass), with the home team picking a map from the remaining five. Oceanic teams play each other once this stage with a standard map picking system.
Additionally, over the coming period, FACEIT will be hosting weekly qualifiers for each region. The winners of each qualifier will be joined by the bottom two of each League to play for a spot in Stage 2.

First day of the Faceit league, I'm hyped for this!
Also, Allu is trying out for NiP today against Titan

sexy op i like the ak bias :>
The matches for today are looking quite promissing. nip vs. titan is hard to predict imo.

Pumped for C9 vs Mythic myself and the other NA games... hopefully the DDK's cast the NA too for the chill-cast effect =P.

so many good matches, loving it

I would be so hyped if Allu became the fifth ninja. I still don't understand why they cut Maikel, but Allu has shown some incredible skill when i have seen him.

DDK and James were so tired by the time they got to casting the NA games yesterday =P.

Fnatic played a beautiful T half. It wasn't even like one player going huge; just read NiP well, got the information they needed, and executed wonderfully.
Shame I missed the first half. Would have loved to see NiP's T play on Mirage.

Anyone else think Daps is the weakest link on TL?
|
daps is killing it atm...making me look bad lol
|
Oh look a ddos which costs Na'Vi a big round
The integrity of these matches is overwhelming
|
Why is this game so ridiculously susceptible to DDoS? Why don't pro teams have protection?
Why even bother spectating a game that 90% of matches are hindered by hackers?
|
Well if it makes you feel better, I think two Dota 2 games have been ddosed as well. At the very least they've been significantly delayed and in at least one case it was a ddos.
But yeah, I'm kind of getting bored with trying to spectate some of these matches since they get held up so so much.
|
Why doesn't Valve just release an integrated firewall that lets users block all incoming connections except the game and a voice program?
Would that be *that* difficult?
|
GRAND OLD AMERICA16375 Posts
because you can make the best security programs in the world and it still wouldn't be able to defeat human stupidity.
|
Maybe the best way really is just to ban teams who can't get their acts together. That would certainly compel teams to actually take precautions, instead of this "well if we get ddos'd then we can just make these admins reschedule" thing.
Then again, if ddosing is an issue that new or poorly-funded teams can't protect themselves against so well, you'd be pretty much shutting them out of higher level competition with that rule. Athough I from what I understand that isn't really how it works.
|
2nd Worst City in CA8938 Posts
Instead of banning, they should just have to forfeit the match.
|
They should have to forfeit due to basement-dwelling hackers bombing their machines?
Honestly, Valve just needs to incorporate a firewall into Steam. But even highly advanced systems can't prevent sophisticated DDoS attacks, even banks.
|
A 'firewall' in Steam won't help you here. The problem isn't usually that a DDoS causes your machine to actually handle all of the data they throw at you, its that some bottleneck in your link can't handle that much traffic and starts dropping it.
If someone's machine is being DDoS'd via a traditional flood, there is no action they can take AT the affected computer, it MUST happen upstream before wherever the bottleneck is.
This is why you see teams get multiple ISPs or even just multiple IPs. When they switch, further upstream the attack stops getting routed to the team's equipment, and the DDoS stops being effective.
Thus, there are two practical ways to protect yourself currently: 1) Don't let the IP that you compete from be known. Previously Skype, steam voice chat, and some other things were leaking this information. The Dota2 community had to figure out how to stop leaking IPs so often when they struggled with this. 2) Have multiple internet connections. Get DDoS'd on one, switch to another.

Updated rankings. Things of note:
Europe:
NiP is now number one, but only due to having the most games played. Fnatic still has the best win % at 5-1. TSM and LGB are dead last at 1-5. nV is also looking horrible at 2-5, but since Europe has five seats open to them for LAN, their hopes are still alive. Na`Vi still has only played two matches, staying at 1-1.
North America:
Liquid is far ahead of everyone with a 6-0 record. With only 3-4 matches left for NA, they are in a good position to make it to LAN as the top two will advance. Meanwhile, Luminosity is 0-6 and officially out at this point.
Oceania:
Team Immunity is first at 4-0 since Vox lost their most recent match (they were playing with a stand-in since topguN left the team). With only one match left for the Aussie region, things are getting interesting as Immunity and Vox will play each other in the final week, and the other 3-1 team (The Chiefs) will be playing against a 1-3 team (Avant). A three-way 4-1 tie is entirely possible, but I have no idea what the tiebreakers are like. If they are like last year's then I guess it'll be decided by round difference.

Biggest is ESL, no fucking clue why ESL don't put subscriber only on any of their other games. At Katowice I think CS was the only one with sub mode on.

NIP one more round for the win. I thought Nip looked poor, but I underestimated the impact of the mp7 after the pistol round. You gain such an insane money advantage, especially with fnatic using the m4a1-s.
Honestly, Volvo may have just spiralled things into a very weird way at the moment.

Big win. Looks like that definitely knocked out CLG out of contention for FaceIT LAN. And I think one more W should just about secure it for Liquid.

I've been saying that Daps is the weakest link on TL. Adren's shotcalling is 100% better. I hope they bring NAF back, too.
|
Good win.
Next game should be fun too. C9 is good on nuke and specially n0thing but so is hiko and elevate isn't bad on it either.
|
On April 03 2015 11:05 ptbl wrote: I've been saying that Daps is the weakest link on TL. Adren's shotcalling is 100% better. I hope they bring NAF back, too. I try not to shit-talk individuals too much but I've thought this for a very long time. If Liquid wants to take the next step, I feel they may have to make that kind of change eventually. Dunno if Adren calling is the ultimate answer, but I do know he is decently capable of playing primary AWP and IGL at the same time. Would at least be interesting to see how the team would do with that setup.
Although they do seem to be stepping up their game a bit recently and seem to be doing quite well domestically... big test will be FaceIT LAN (looks like they'll make it).
|
C9 is usually beasty on Nuke, think they should have this... unless they lose both pistol rounds and roca/hiko/desi go ham. Think if they lose this then elevate might lock up the LAN spot over them.

So, Liquid still has a Daps problem. The shotcalling is so weak. I really think Adren should take over and NAF replace Daps.

Liquid loses 16-9 to Cloud9. I think they will get wrecked at the faceit LAN. Hopefully, if they do poorly at the LAN, they will finally replace daps. He's a weak shot and Adren is a better shot caller.
