Back when Melee came out my friends and family didn't know anything about wavedashing/l-canceling etc and yet we still really enjoyed the game. Sakurai claims he is "trying to make the game appeal to a wider audience" when he's really doing just the opposite by alienating most of the competitive community. Not only that but the game also doesn't appeal to what I would call "long-term casuals" ie. people who don't expect to get very good but want to invest time and do their best. As soon as you realize the game has very little depth it gets boring really quick and you quit (my experience with Brawl). I spent a heck of a lot more time playing Melee than I did playing Brawl and most of my time on Brawl was spent trying to get unlockables. I feel Nintendo's stance on how to design multiplayer games is quite flawed and I'm afraid a lot of their new games won't be as successful as they were pre-wii. I kinda found it funny hearing all the "boos" when Zero won. I'm not sure it was so much that they wanted H-box to win as they were disappointed in what winning looks like in smash 4. | ||

People, we already have melee. If you love it, stick to it. There is never gonna be a successor that intentionally holds the same depth and potential for high level play. | ||

Many fighting game sequels for the most part too (even if I think Third Strike or MvC2 is ultimately superior at least the successor is designed to have some depth). And BW was doing fine in SK until Blizzard beat it to death with SC2 so if that's the comparison you're going to make then there's a reason to be concerned. | ||

As long as Nintendo doesn't try to kill Melee and/or release Melee HD I'm content. I still have a sliver of hope for Smash 4. Honestly it doesn't have to be Melee 2.0, it just needs to be a good competitive game, which Brawl lacked elements of. Or there will be just another PM mod for smash4. | ||
