They stay, but bodies despawn after a certain time, so unless someone loots your corpse with items, they will "poof"

I get this message also. I bought the game via Steam legit. I thought it was just a gag.
Like in "Jones in the Fast Lane" whenever you withdrew money from the bank, the cashier would say something like: "there are always penalties for early withdrawal". I don't think it meant anything.

How do I respawn? XD I exited the game and came back in and I'm at the same position. There are no high places to jump off(can you even jump?)
