So a clan of mine is looking to get a community server running for CSGO but finding it hard to pick where to start. The majority of servers are either Dust2 DM, Achi idles or casual Dust 2 / Office.

Does nobody play any other maps in casual / community or something? I dont think ive seen a single server with a map rotation or vote system like the valve MM.

Anyone have ideas on what would make the server popular?

We were thinking 20 slot casual with a 3 map rotation (say bomb: dust2, inferno, mirage - hostage: office, italy, assault.) but have no real idea of what people want.

This could also serve as a TL hub if you guys wanted so all your input would be awesome XD

I play on some community competitive servers from time to time, they can be fun if enough people join and actually stick around for most of the game.

Main things for me are: 128 tick, stability, server location (ping), and normal map rotation/voting system. Adding some extra maps like cache or season wouldn't hurt, I don't get to play those very often at all.

I don't like 20 man though. If I'm going to play on a server, I like 5v5 competitive demolition. 10v10 is just a completely different game and it's never been fun for me. Plus, you have more stability issues with more connections, and more FPS/performance issues with more stuff on the screen.

Just my perspective. If I were to make a server that's how I would do it.

I don't think it's appropriate to make a community server limited to 10 people for competitive...

There are already enough outlets for competitive 5v5 we can't see the server being a success if we ran a 5v5 server. Why would players join us instead of valve MM, FACEIT, ESEA, altPug etc etc, there are just too many options. Plus we want it to be a more relaxed atmosphere with a focus on having fun and a laugh with each other, if people want to play comp together they will play one of the many things i listed. People can meet up and relax on the server and head off to do their own comp. stuff

128 is a given
Server location we are UK based but probably looking at inland europe, probably NL/Germany to please the most folks (sorry NA

).
20 slots..we want a decent size to allow for plenty of community interaction, the discussion was either 16 or 20.

We are just unsure of what people want in regards to a casual server since everything is dust 2 / office or DM.

Yeah thats something we're thinking about pretty heavily tbh. Like the valve casual servers you mean right? We want a map pool of 3-5 maps, depending on how things go, right now we're just gauging what people want, which is why i asked for opinions here. We're really unsure of what people want to play exactly, hostage seems alot more relaxed in valves servers compared to demo even in casual but do people even want to play hostage?

Just host the server yourself on a VPN. It can't be hard to get a debianOS or Arch server with the server software going. Might cost about $10 a month tops

Its not a problem of setting it up or money, we've done it before and have other games on the go atm. We want it to be successful / populated instead of sitting empty like in the past.

So since people are talking about competitive and stuff, I'm sheriff badge thing and sometimes eagle and looking for partners to queue in with. Feel free to PM me if you're of similar rank like double AK+. My friends are always busy or they play some CS then rage and go back to playing DOTA 2 where it's apparently even easier to blame other people for your mistakes
