Cruise is definitely format warping. Banworthy? Maybe in modern.

Standard has fluctuated too much for there to be a real "best deck" so it all comes down to positioning and experience with a deck.

Dunno. I played in the last 2 Modern GPs and in a lot of Modern events IRL and Online and in the end people adapted.

Pod is still top dog and Cruise decks are beatable, because they play a bit too many "do nothing" cards to fuel Cruise (Visions, Scour, Probe, ...). Many people started running hate for both Cruise and the cards that go well with it (Young Peezie, Delver), and now it's pretty balanced.

I mean, yesterday evening I went 3-1 in the Daily Event with Burn (playing 2 Cruises) and played Boggles, Scapeshift, UWR control, and the mirror. The format is pretty healthy actually, it just changed by making Delver tier 1, which is nice because the deck is actually very cheap and interesting to play and build.

I find delver mirrors more boring than Caw-Go. Personally probably just going to snap call on Ascendancy for modern. So many games to steal out from under people.

How far from preview season are we? Should be soon no?

If I can get the cards together, I'm playing Doran. So much good disruption and I can play KIn-Tree invocation over Tarmogoyf.

Game 1 is a bit of a coinflip, but Game 2 is all on the pilot skill.
I still have to lose a mirror in a competitive setting (6-0 in matches atm). Just side out Delvers and fight Cruises into easy wins yo.

Ascendancy is nice but I don't think it's especially well positionned atm. It's only 50-50 against Delver, not very good against Scapeshift, and downright abyssmal against Burn. Actually, we were quite a lot with the deck at Milan including top 8 competitor Louis Deltour. We were all playing the exact same 75 from Pierre Dagen. Most of us didn't make day 2 (I'd say only 2 out of the 9 French players with the deck made it).
If you're speaking about the version with G though, it might be a good call atm. It's a bit better against Delver and Scapeshift (because it is faster) but losing interaction can really hurt you.

Pretty sure "the presence of this card forces everybody to adjust" is the definition of format warping...
Anyways the ban thing is whatever, we'll see where wotc goes. I don't mind either way for modern. Would prefer to keep cruise/dig in legacy but won't cry over a ban either.

Well then Pod is format warping, Bolt is format warping, Path is format warping, Decay is format warping, Bird is format warping, Rhino is format warping. Because your definition is bad.

It's only format warping if you either play it or play to beat it. Pod isn't playing specifically to beat Cruise, it's doing its thing and sometimes beats Cruise, sometimes loses to it. That's the definition of a healthy format.
I guess you never played Mirrodin Standard or any other heavily warped format like that, where you either played the Tier 1 deck or a hate deck, and that was about it. Modern is incredibly far from that.

Format warping becomes format defining. Its one of the pillars of the format, but when it first came out it was definitely format warping. Also I wouldnt call those formats warped, but rather narrow.

lol I played Cawblade

My definition is literally the definition of format warping, the format warps around these cards. Yes, Bolt and Pod are format warping in that your deck and specific card choices have to take those cards into account on some level. You don't have to say the same for BoP, and you don't have to say that for Rhino (yet).

Like, it's hard to argue Bolt isn't format warping when the most commonly played Khans cards are Cruise, Swiftspear (both fueled by Bolt) and Siege Rhino (doesn't die to Bolt). Deceiver Exarch is played in larger quantities than Pestermite because it doesn't die to Bolt. Tarmogoyf's constant presence has a lot to do with its resistance to Bolt. etc. etc. You can see this effect ripple throughout the format. It's not any less format warping just because the format has been warped around Lightning Bolt since day 1.

Cruise is affecting which cards and decks are worth playing. That isn't necessarily unhealthy, powerful cards will always have a part in shaping formats.

God I am so fucking hyped for Fate, Standard is alright right now but a little to Green/Red focused, hopefully the other colors will get some love and Ugin seems like he would go in Blue/Black control shells. Dragons hwaiting!

If you're playing ascendency combo in any format, how likely are you to finish your games in mtgo? Do you have to play fast?

Standard heroic combo is doable but requires practice. Very difficult to mill them out with altar fast enough to win 2 games sometimes. Not sure about fatestitcher, modern green version is tight but doable if you are fast.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Red and Green are 2 of the 3 less played colors.
White on the other hand is played in 75% of the decks.

http://www.gatheringmagic.com/nickvigabool-121614-standard-snapshot/

For Ascendancy combo online, I played it quite a lot in Modern and it's pretty tight time-wise because the deck is very heavy decision-making wise, then the combo is kind long.
In Standard if you play a Green version it's pretty easy to not time out as long as you don't count on Altar of the Brood to win, which is bad anyway.

Agree, white is the color I tend to see the most, but that was prior to the Sidisi/GB decks popping out. I barely see any Green decks now and even less Red.
