I know this probably isn't supposed to be a brag thread, but I'm really proud of myself. I watched a bunch of draft videos, drafted a little RTR block with friends helping me out, but always went like 1-2 and generally felt like I didn't really know what was going on. After drafting another disappointing deck with a friend yesterday, I found myself with a few hours free today and decided I'd give it a shot on my own.
I put together some kind of weird black flier/vampire deck with red for chandra's outrage and aggro creatures.
+ Show Spoiler +
I feel like for the first time I really correctly prioritized removal and made good decisions on what to pick based on the playables I already had, which led to pulling off some of the cool sacrifice stuff black can do in a few of my games.
Anyway, I went 3-0 and even managed to pick up a scavenging ooze for extra value! All my games just felt so solid, for the first time it felt like I was actually playing a deck instead of just a random bunch of decent cards I managed to cobble together. I'm pretty pumped to keep learning m14 and how to draft decent decks, now that it looks like I might be starting to get the hang of it!

Congrats! Would have been cool to see a few more sac outlets to make the most of the tenacious deads, and I personally dislike tutor, Vampire Warlord, and some of the other cards, but the results speak for themselves. Double doomblade and chandra's outrage is pretty sick. Good black cards to watch out for that I don't see there are liturgy of blood, Accursed Spirit, Deathgaze Cockatrice (all commons I think) to name a few.
And yeah, it's exciting to feel that you are actually kind of learning, not only a set, but how to draft in general. Make sure to put it to good use once Theros is out, which is super soon!
EDIT: Also agree with Sly from page before, not sure what I was thinking, Hydra over Archangel. Still mixed about Hydra over Garruk. He is just so gross in Draft/Sealed. But you're probably right.

Ya, tutor isnt great unless you have an insane bomb. The curve is definitely a little high. Three shades is really awkward with so many 6 drops since the great thing about shade is play him then next turn pump 3 times. Id try to lower curve and definitely pick act of treason pretty high since it's one of the main reasons to play BR.

Looking to move into Constructed this new Standard season with Red Deck Wins (cheap start :D). Anyone else running it post rotation? Would love some advice as to what to get before the the new block comes in
|
Diabolic Tutor is absolutely worth it when you have double Doom Blade. Normally, the tempo loss means that it's a dubious card to run, but being able to fetch up a cheap removal spell makes it very good (obviously you also want to have powerful threats to search for; Sengir Vampire certainly qualifies there).
|
I feel like M14 is one of the hardest sets to draft in a long time because the card quality is so fucking low across the board that it's hard to tell what's a signal. There's like 4 premium cards per color (except blue, that has damn near every card being at least fringe playable) and the drop off is pretty damn steep.
While I appreciate the challenge, playing with such low powered shit isn't fun for me, and all the fun little combos (Angelic Accord) are overdrafted.

3BBB cantrip removal is amazing [2BB Tutor + 1B Doomblade]
It's like having invasion's Annihilate that can be a Sengir Vampire when you don't need removal.

What? It's not 3BBB cantrip removal, it's just 3BBB removal.

I don't think rdw has anything else it could possibly want out of rtr/m14. Battledriver is so bad...

Question, are multicolored cards considered both the colors it costs to play them?
For example...
My opponent has "Fiendslayer Paladin" in play
![[image loading]](http://magiccards.info/scans/en/m14/18.jpg)
and I cast "Ground Assault" on the Fiendslayer
![[image loading]](http://magiccards.info/scans/en/gtc/168.jpg)
My opponent argued that I can not target Fiendslayer because Ground Assault is a green and red spell. Is that accurate? I thought it was a "gold" card.
Thank you for any help.

yup its both a green and red card

Right? At sorcery speed. I don't think it's bad, but if I'm running Diabolic Tutor, I'd want to be pulling out Colossal Whale or Jace's Phantasm to wrap a game that's already won. In M12, I liked it when I had real power: a Titan or a Sorin, even Fireball or Mind Control.
I wouldn't feel as good tutoring up an answer.
Edit: Jace's Mindseeker, doh.

Soooo dissolve looks good? 1UU counter spell, scry 1? I like it. I just want a draw spell now, would prefer instant, that says scry 1, draw a card. Give me that, wotc, and I will be happy

I guess I consider anything that thins the deck a pseudo cantrip--personal interpretation.
Kind of like how fetchlands thin the deck.

reprint this, make it scry 1, give it instant, make it uncommon. Done.

Hmmm, making that an instant would cause that to jump to rare, if you ask me. I dunno, it sounds like it's in the nebulous region between uncommon and rare. :-\ Dropping the scry or the draw would be fine for a 1-mana instant at uncommon.

Good Heliod, it's already a card: Opt.

I looked at that and I was like, wait a second I swear I've run a card that does just that before.
