If you refer to my post (which I am assuming because Antz posted a pic where you can see that Zapdos was very low):
I actually tried 3 times with ~120 balls each try. First try it was paralyzed and below 10%, second try just below 10% (bodyslam for paralyze, since the only pokemon I used throughout the game was a Puff), 3rd try: dunno, probably around 40% health.

When you are in the 7th gym, you can not use water pokemons.
You can use water type attacks, but not water pokemon

Use Nidoking/Nidoqueen, they can both use Surf I'm pretty sure, and Earthquake.

Teach someone Metronome and pray you hit a few Horn Drills.
Alternatively, teach someone really fast Horn Drill. The way OHKO moves worked in the original Red and Blue games was if your speed was higher, they hit. I'm not sure if it's the same in FR/LG though

its based off the orgional series so it should i should test that theory out

You must fight all the trainers but use a grass type at least once per trainer

I think, basically, they are just remakes that are more polished than the old ones, but I'm not completely sure. I've never actually played them but that is the impression I get.

Yeah its just the old games with some new islands and the ability to catch more pokemon.

Alright here are some challenges for the next gym battle.
1) You can only use two Pokemon for the whole gym.
2) You cannot use any of your dragon types.
3) No potions or healing stuff.
4) No pit stops at the pokemon center.
