After his recent GSL performance, I was surprised that our good friend San didn't have a fan club of his own. I personally enjoyed his games the most this season, so I think it's only right he has a fan club for all those who also enjoyed his games. Especially considering how he went from being considered (perhaps rightly so) as the worst player in Code S at the beginning of the season, only to be knocked out by MC himself in the Ro4. In fact, San was one of the only players to take a game off of MC this season, besides July who also took one.
I'll add content as time goes on (especially if people help out), but for now if you enjoyed San's play this last GSL season, sign up! :D

What's with Artosis and swallowing sword? I missed that

Ah B.I.G. thanks for the pic, forgot that. Definitely needed.
Btw buddy, I said I would add content in the future. So relax a bit all right, this is a thread basically made for having fun there's no need to get all emotional, k buddy? also it's not about trying to get people to join the fanclub, it's more about finding a place to appreciate san's play. thanks
Yeah there's not much atm but I've added what there's left. I'll regularly update this but it might be slow sometimes, I don't have a load of time (just weekends ^^). if there are things like interviews or cheerfuls or things like that that need to be added post it and i'll get around to it. albeit a bit slowly.
Also I read a blog somewhere about san that was really good (might have been in spotlight) but i can't find it D: anyone know where it is?

Actually San isn't the only one to take a game off MC, july won a game remember? Anyways I can't wait to see San play more. Fortunately we'll get to see him in the GSL world championships.

San's play against Sen was so good! I'm definitely trying that out in PvZ since most Zergs now blind-counter Colossi. His PvZ is so solid!
|
San fan since he lost to inka in 5 mins
i still approve
|
Great play by San tonight - it takes huge balls to go up against Roach Hydra on pure micro, and it's amazing how rarely he ever makes a colossus. It's like he challenges himself to play any style but Colossus-heavy, which is pretty cool.

I am still waiting for Artosis swallowing a sword. He must do is because he did not have faith in San.
I saw SanZenith losing games and blocking his nat with a cannon in a televised match. I still cheered for him as Tastosis said that he is no real progamer. Then he allkilled his group in Mar 2011. Especially the game versus Nestea impressed me. He brought him down. He brought him down to chinatown!!
Bit by bit, San wore Neastea down. He had his storms ready when and where he needed.
Later on San continued to show strong performance in macro games as well as his good micro capabilities. Notable are games versus Sen and versus White-Ra.
Normally my zerg heart bleeds tears when I see zerg losing to protoss – but if San wins, I approve. The way he wins, he deserves it.
HoSeoSan hwaitiiiing!

i think san actually has a pretty good shot at winning this gsl! fingers crossed

San is awesome. One of my top three players.

Today is San's Saturday. Please trash Huk ! San fighting!

For Super Tournament Results: + Show Spoiler +Alias San lost . In the first set San tried a proxy gateway but it did not work (well there was a time where he moved his Stalkers in then pulled it back. I think at that moment he had a chance but he did not take it ) I don't think San does well using an all-ins or cheeses [he usually loses them sadly] but play normally. Hopefully San will still have enough points for the Blizzard Cup. If San manages to get in he'll be able to show his skills because in the Blizzard Cup each player plays every other player at least once I think. Sadly it seems San is in somewhat of a slump (ever since GSL WC he hasn't been doing well). I like San because he was an underdog that achieved victory[or near] against champions (NesTea + He played well against MC and MVP).
Does San have a twitter or anything?
|
After watching San's game vs. Nestea in GSL March (the first big upset), San is one of my favorite protosses. That exact game on Shakuras Plateau reminds me of a very similar game I had on the same map. Early attack on zerg's third into massive macro game with almost every unit imaginable. The way he kept himself composed despite the fact he was going up against the best zerg player in the world is astounding.
Despite being in a slump lately, I'm confident that if he refines his PvP and his mechanics he will be back on top. A Top 5 Krn protoss easily, maybe even top3.
|
Anyone know if San has a facebook or twitter? Maybe he needs fan support >.>.
Well while San is out of Code A, there's still the team league fortunately (this Friday I think).
|
I am still kinda piss that San is out of code A, but I am sure he will comeback like he did before.
|
I'm a fan, he surprised me in Global Starcraft Leagues long past.
|
San's stream. Hmm anyone know if San has a twitter or if he can be contacted or something? He needs to know he has foreign fans (maybe it'll give him morale needed to practice more and well get out of his slump ).
|
|
I posted this in another thread but I'll post it again here in his fanclub.
The myth about San in GSL March: Myth 1 - San only won against Nestea because of amulet and archon toilet in GSL March. Myth 2 - San only got as far as he did due to amulet.
Myth 1 is not true (see below for basic play by play of his Nestea match). Myth 2 is debatable but my thoughts on it are below (in the "Finally" section).
San vs Nestea.
(Edit - Also San does not use KA in his game against Boxer [in same group] and he barely uses against Ensnare [most of the time it was idle templars. Also he used DTs, Zealots, and Stalkers to defend against drops. He only used warp in templar two times to storm immediately but the rest of the time he used idle templars]).
Here's a basically summary of the entire events of the game: + Show Spoiler + A major thing to note is that he did a timing attack with a lot of stalkers and sentries at around 10 minutes and prevented his third hatch from going. This probably determined the outcome of the game greatly.
I rewatch that game and San used Blink stalkers to defend mutalisks. He didn't even get amulet until 20-21 minute mark (game timer). Even once he got amulet, he used Blink stalkers to defend the harass at 23 minute mark. It wasn't until 25 minutes until amulet may have been taken advantaged of (though take note there were 4 templars out ever since the 20 minute mark which meant they probably had max energy already). Finally the muta harass at the 28 minute mark was repelled by Stalkers again.
He started DT harass at 21 minutes and continued the rest of the game (this helped a lot).
He used a lot of Archons (didn't rely much on warp in storms. Again he only used storm at 25 minutes but take note those were from old templars which were warped in 5 minutes prior).
He only "really" abused and taken advantage of Amulet at 30-31 minute mark (when the Mothership first appears) so far. Take note the Archon toilet was used to kill 6 Brood Lords but San had a lot of stalkers coming in so he probably could have easily taken out those BL even without archon toilet.
At 36 minutes, he uses warp in templars to..... feedback overseers >.>. Even without Amulet, templars have enough energy to warp in feedback.
At 37 minute mark (one minute later), he uses warp in amulet templar to storm a mineral line of about 7 drones (gets a couple).
39 minute repeats another amulet storm (gets around 4 drones). So here he abuses amulet again but not for much gain.
40-41 minute - He feedbacks overseers and lands just "four" storms (one storm missed, two were against ultralisks).
Vortex but no archon toilet (banelings were in it). However there was another vortex against the 9 or so corruptors which was archon toileted. However he still had a ton of archons and stalkers leftover so he probably would have dealt with that easily regardless.
42 minute 20 second mark - Nestea 90 supply while San at 140. Basically GG.
44 minutes and around 20 seconds - Nestea GGs.
So basically San never really abused amulet in his game against Nestea. My long post defending San, etc: + Show Spoiler + Honestly he probably been able to win that game even with the current patch (if players were playing the same of course. Again I do know Nestea underestimated him).
He used archons a lot which would have been better now with the +1 range. Of course Infestor would have been buffed with the new Fungal (but slowed, after Infestor patch move speed was reduced by 0.25).
The only major factor is that I agree that Nestea probably underestimated him however San played a great game his micro, macro, harass, basically everything, was well done throughout the entire game.
Point is he defeat Nestea fairly (even though Nestea underestimated him). No he didn't win "solely" because of Amulet or the Archon toilet. He didn't even abuse amulet or the archon toilet that much (again rewatch the game).
Maybe you can say if Nestea knew there was no amulet, he would have been more aggressive (though Nestea was already aggressive and denied by Blink stalkers several times) or San would have played differently. That's too much variables to debate on (would be unnecessary too since this is just a post explaining that San did well and did not abuse amulet in his Nestea game.)
Of course again I agree Nestea played too passive early on and underestimated San but the point is San did not really abuse any gameplay imbalances in that game to win. Game needs to be watched and one needs to take note of the time he uses warp in storms or so (I listed all occurrences which I've seen).
Anyway I'm just tired of players lately stating that San only won because of amulet which is why I'm made this post. San is not a bad player that relied on amulet (he still did good in WC and did decently against MVP, near winning the 4th set[you can rewatch since WC is free]).
As for the question of "would a good player be in Code B"? Well currently, Code B players can easily defeat Code S players (see team league). San doing bad in a few matches in a row does not mean he's a bad player (lots of players hit slumps or have periods where they play several bad games in a row). He's shown he's capable of being a decent to good player.
Finally I do agree Nestea is currently a better player overall but the discussion was whether San is a bad player and I'd say he's not a bad player and he did not get as far as he did solely because of amulet.
Another "finally" >.> - While San did not use amulet much in the Nestea game (again a basic summary and play by play of the game is listed above) I do know he used them extensively in other games like vs sCfOu. Though an important thing to note is if there was no amulet, San would have played the game differently and we do not know how well San would have played then (against sC). We know he's decent without it (see San vs IMMVP. In the one macro game, he did well. Though he lost 2 games due to failed attempts at all ins/cheese >.<).. So that's another thing I'd like to point out.
An analogy is what if Protoss did not exist in Broodwar? You can't say Bisu would be a nub player if Protoss did not exist in Broodwar because he would just simply be playing another race (his Terran isn't that bad but he did lose to Flash's Protoss but if Bisu practiced Terran Bisu probably would do very well).
The point of the analogy is if amulet did not exist, San would have simply picked another strategy (just like if Protoss did not exist in BW, Bisu would simply be playing and practicing another race in BW). As seen in games after GSL March, San is still a good player even without amulet.
He may be currently in a slump but I'm sure he'll be back to playing well in no time if he continues to practice.
|
Became a fan after watching his stream. His micro/macro and execution is top notch. I've been keeping an eye out on him ever since his GSL run. But seeing the difference in his play from even other high level toss streamers like Puzzle is insane. I feel that San will be the best toss after MC if he gets over his nerves in GSL.
|
:/ I miss San, hopefully he can get out of his slump soon, his play is inspiring. Sign me up!
|
Why has this fan club thread so few posts?
He is may be in a "slump", but when you killed Nestea, Boxer and Ensnare, well, I would like to be in such "slump".
San was killed by Sheth out of Code A, but this speaks for Sheth, not against San. San is one of the few Protoss I like to watch.

It's not true and an error by Gom. As of now, San is still with Hoseo as his team and zenith as his clan. That's not to say he isn't seeking a team, but he is still on Hoseo at the moment.
|
san was wearing an nshoseo uniform at the wcg preliminaries today, so it definately seems like he still is playing for them.
+ Show Spoiler +Also judging by the way he played, it seems like he has been practicing quite a bit lately, he was playing like a boss!

ManZenith is currently owning it up at WCG. He just made SC look like a scrub.
Again, he's wearing the NSHS jacket, he must be back with them (did he ever actually leave the team?)

He went to a code A qualifiers registered as "other" instead of NSHS so he did leave at one point.
But yeah, San is playing very well! I hope he makes it back to the GSL one day

I asked Sage today how San is doing, he replied that San is still playing with NSHoSeo but he doesn't stay in the NSHS-house.

|
two nicknames of san(강초원: Kang, Cho Won) in the Korean scene.
1. 갓초원(God Cho Won: God San) This was made during the GSL March, 2011. He showed impressive winnings against Nestea and Boxer in RO32, and finally he made it to RO4. He used high templars very well with Khaydarin Amulet Upgrade, and showed how OP it was. Eventually, the upgrade gets removed after the discover of its opness. This is related to term "god mode" which was used to describe when players show a next-level play.
2. 관초원(Kwan Cho Won: Coffin San) After the nerf of the Khaydrarin Amulet, San's performance started to get worse and worse. San didn't show any significant accomplishment from late 2011 to the end of 2012 except for qualifying for OSL RO16 in 2012. People said San was already dead (as a progamer), and called him 고인( the dead). Also, because of the similar pronunciation of Kang and kwan(coffin in Korean), people started to call him Kwan Cho Won which means San (in the) coffin.
He's been called as the second nickname for almost 2 years, just except for the short time when he made it through the OSL Dual Tournament, but After yesterday's GSTL, people now say the God San is back.

and his rate vs protoss In these games, San is 59–16 (79%) in games and 28–6 (82%) in matches.

NICEEEE! I was a little worried because of his PvT weakness at ASUS ROG but now he should have a really good shot at being in premier next season and competing for the title!

If I was a team manager, I'd pick San in an instant: a recognizable player who has only margin for growth... most likely cheap. A win-win situation!
Let's hope someone will recognise his talent.

Agreed. He beat Losira to advance to iem qualifiers tomorrow!

San's PvZ is just unreal. He has 80% on ladder.

The Sanjwa has qualified for IEM through the winners' bracket!

On September 09 2013 21:09 Shellshock wrote: The Sanjwa has qualified for IEM through the winners' bracket! Not exaclty, but please correct me if I'm wrong... isn't still the last qualifier to run? China and Taiwan can still display some scary players, plus there's Innovation and other two koreans. San has still to beat there to go to IEM, right?
Not like he wouldn't gladly rip them apart, of course.

You're right. I didn't realize there was an Asia qualifier stage after this KR/TW qualifier. Guess I should have paid more attention. Assumed it was done for him ^^

No surprises so far. Can't wait to see who he gets to face in the finals. I'm confident!

How was I not aware of this thread! :o

I said he'd win this tournament before it started. Sticking with it.

Congrats at taking 2nd place at IEM! Shame he couldn't win after being up 2-0 in the final but still a great result!

Still got the DailyMotion Cup and ASUS ROG! San also said on Facebook that he would be streaming again this month (I assume that he meant after his tournaments are over).

Dominates MMA to make the Ro4 of the Dailymotion Cup \o/
Takes out Innovation to advance to the final!

San is having trouble finding a computer with which to play the Dailymotion final today.

I was a little worried about his PvP after losing to HerO and Stardust earlier in the tournament but now that he came back to 3-0 Stardust and 4-0 Dear I feel a lot better about his challenger match
San also moves to #1 on TLPD Elo and should move to #1 on Aligulac when it updates which is pretty nice

A truly talented guy, so many smart builds and you can tell he knows what he's doing. Great to see him finally have that breakthrough
|
San has been the best player that nobody seems to know about for so long... I hope he keeps it up and keeps winning this year! He certainly has put in the requisite hard work!
|
I still feel like he needs a very specific tournament path in order to win: lots of zergs, some protosses, very few terrans. Luckily this kind of fits with the general population of tournaments right now.
Anyway I'm beyond happy that he won this, I've been rooting for him since forever.
|
|
gratz san, I always knew you have it in you :D
|
San is a protoss I can root for, he should have won a tournament before asus rog already!
|
Just logged in to say that I've been a fan ever since he had a misplaced pylon (or canon?) in his expansion and can't build a nexus on GSL. Go San!
|
IEM Cologne open bracket coming up! That's one of the toughest open brackets I've ever seen! :o
|
|
Dayshi's TvP is trash (his best strategy is to go for mass hellions, and his late game control is bad plus he hates the matchup, his TvP is very very far from his TvZ) , I see no way San loses to him, Targa and Miniraser are more dangerous but San should get out with a 4-0 ez pz still
|
I'm a fanboy for T but this is one P I can root for! You can call me a SanFan!

disappointed he couldnt make it to the finals. Maybe next season

MMA played way better that series than he has in a long time, and San seemed to take a couple of games to get into the groove (but a couple of games is a little bit too much to give up in a pest of 5...)
I look forward to seeing San next season as well! Plus all the random online things he does (I heard from Rifkin that he might be willing to do a showmatch soon!) and hopefully he will start streaming again since I am subbed to his stream and he hasn't streamed in months, haha.
