To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |

Japan has a much different taste in regards to pop than both Korea and the West. I think the producers and marketing team have done an amazing job. Great contrasting colors, crazy chorus...perfect for where they are promoting. I think SM know how to get things done...

Whether Japan likes something or not has no bearing on whether individual users like things.

oRly? Some of these comments are the harshest I've read for a while. All I'm saying is they are promoting in Japan, and marketing Japanese-influenced songs. So when people are calling it the worst song ever and complete trash, at least keep that in perspective...

You're missing the point. Anyone listening to a song isn't thinking about the circumstances in which they're made to determine its quality. if it sounds good to Japanese people, fine. But thinking that it's made for Japanese people doesn't suddenly make me like it anymore than I do.

While I do prefer The Boys to this new Flower Power song, I do think firehand has a point and it's important to note the context in which the music was written. Maybe that doesn't apply to kpop though... It's certainly not one of the better SNSD songs.

It's old and way to many people saying the same stupid things. dude spoilers? @ Shival ........yes I agree with you, shit other than the music is important. However when you're talking about how a song sounds their concept doesn't really apply, etc. You're just talking about how the song sounds. So when I'm walking down the street listening to "I don't know", for example, the fact that it's their debut and they wore pink flowery dresses has no bearing on how it sounds. It's why I wouldn't play Bubble Pop when walking down the street, because I like BP because Hyuna pops her ass and not because it's a good song. That's why, while "flower power" may be a good move to promote in Japan, I won't be paying any more attention to the song.
So yes, if I was making the statement "Flower Power is trash" in a discussion about whether "Flower Power" is a good popularity move for SNSD, I might be being narrow-minded. But in a discussion about whether I like the song or not, that shit doesn't really matter.

Hey now, atleast the new SNSD song isn't as bad as the Japanese version of The Boys... so calm yourselves.
Also the rest of The Boys album was good imo. People talk about the last Korean stuff being bad because they think of the one song that was promoted but it had songs like Oscar, Trick, Sunflower and How Great is your Love which I thought were great.

Well, I guess we're talking semantics here then. I take a last comment of "also it's complete trash" as very generalizing, while one could simply write "I think it's complete trash".
I've seen comments saying SNSD is going downhill and then quoting a few of their recents songs while never putting into context the region the song is meant for. I think that's what firehand and I are trying to convey.

Haven't we been over something similar before with 2NE1, where it seemed for the longest time that he was saying "this group/music is popular, therefore you should like it"? lol -_-
And for the record--I, too, find it a rather bad song. Learn to read between the lines (though this is no great subtlety) when people say that a song is bad, and assume that it means "I think it's bad", not "this song is absolutely bad by any measure, and anybody who thinks otherwise is not right in the head". I suppose you could extend the latter statement to qualify that it's your opinion that it's true, but whatever, you get what I mean. Usually I'll say "I think" etc anyway though lol.
