Otherwise I can't explain why you would take an interesting setting like this and don't expand on it but instead use all the time on pseudo-intellectual conversations, philosophy and "problem-solving skills". I enjoyed it enough to not regret watching it but if you aren't bored to death and have too much time on your hands don't watch it. That's my personal recommendation for you.
The outro pretty much confirmed a sequel btw.
Time to start Full Metal Panic before the new one comes out next season. Hope I will like.
The Gonzo one has its moments, but also drags at parts. Gauron is a pretty great villain. Fumoffu is pretty funny, although its just funny (doesn't advance the plot any). The Second Raid is legit, and the best animated FMP so far IMO.
Gauron is the only good villain. Everyone else is pretty meh.
The Gonzo anime suffers from early FMP being half action, half romcom. The show depends on the mix of the two (and this kind of thing was very much in vogue at the time), but it could also feel kinda incongruous. When it worked though, it worked beautifully. Helmajistan comes to mind. This anime also had to deal with some of the shittier arcs.
Fumoffu is excellent, but it's just a romcom played straight.
I'm split on TSR. It has a couple truly great scenes, but angsty Sousuke sucks ass. The whole point of this arc is supposed to be soul-searching, but overall I didn't really care. I also felt like the resolution didn't actually solve anything. Ah well. At least it's really nice to look at.
Ok, so I checked out the NGNL movie, and god... as a fan of NGNL it was incredibly disappointing. The whole premise just felt so alien and lame compared to the show, and having so many doppelganger characters in a prequel left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth. They have those doppelgangers, but none of the the charm of the show.
Yeah, the action was cool, but realistically thats just like 3 scenes.
The cast already ending up with the conclusions about the world like parasite not becoming adults. And zero-two as expected escalating into very erratic and self-destructive (bringing 016 along the ride).
The entire squad 13 is probably gonna something insane like rebellion in the later episodes. They're already doubting all the crap they're fed and showing semblance of disobedience
Overall it was an expected episode that should happen.

I watched FSN then FZ . Thought FZ was really good not so much for FSN but i think it did improve the viewing experience for FZ(combination of low expectation cuz FSN and actual battle royale)

Thanks you two. Is the new one even a sequel or just an original story. Is the character development in Fumoffu relevant for the following story?

How anything can feel lame compared to the show is beyond me but ok.

Didn't know there's a new FMP (are they closing the story now ? )
I don't think they've said how much they'll cover. They have 6 LNs left. Previously they've done roughly 2 LNs per cour. If they're actually finishing the series, I'd bet on split cour.

Heck, I don't even know if I'd like it these days. Nostalgia is pretty strong, and my tastes have changed considerably.

The new one is a sequel.
Nothing in Fumoffu is particularly relevant. You meet a couple side characters who show up later in the series though. All the important developments happen in the main series. The primary reason to watch Fumoffu is if you like FMP characters and you like FMP comedy.

Thanks for the input. If you remember the quote I posted from ep 2-3, is this as bad as it gets in the show or is there more of the same? Also what would you say were the parts that you enjoyed about the show?
I'm not terribly bored right now but finding shows in the >5 rating area seems to become harder these days... or I'm just not very good at looking in the right places.
Yep fumoffo is pretty great. It's actually quite funny at times and can possibly be self-contained so long as you have some context on the characters/story of FMP(ok not that self-contained)

That's still alot of LN's i guess there's a chance we might see a rushed pacing to get to the series end.

That singing part is about as bad as it gets. Probably the worst part. There are another few cringy character moments and pseudo-intellectual/philosophical talk but nothing quite as bad imho.
I enjoyed the music and general artwork as well as some reveals of the setting. As said, I thought the setting was interesting. They just spend way to much time on a shitty story instead of expanding on the setting. Could have been a dystopian fantasy/sci-fi mix instead of some edgelord-... whatever it was.
But yeah, I know what you mean. I think I'm a little bit more lenient when it comes to ratings but it seems hard to find anything that triggers more than the "hm, it's alright" response from me.
Even if they rush the pacing of FMP, I don't see it ending with this series. There is a lot of material to cover, and it would have to be compliation-movie levels of bad to cram it all into one series. Plus nothing of the promotional material suggests they'll do it.
Is it a new season or are they doing a soft reboot? FMP was one of my first anime I watched. Crushing on Chidori so hard in junior school lol. Back when anime you watched was just whatever the guy with the big harddrives had.

imagine everything you don't like about NGNL. Then go on to imagine someone who actually liked all that about the series and thought it's funny. And then you see the movie and realize it has nothing of that at all. That might be a good thing for you but for someone who was expecting more funny games, jokes and fanservice it might be a disappointment.
You can't go into the movie expecting more of NGNL tbh~

I get all that and it explains why somebody could be disappointed. It doesn't explain why it should be lame compared to the series though.
