As they say in the old country "shit taste confirmed" Yea we obviously has radically different tastes for this season lol. I wouldn't watch TLR/Gakkou Gurashi/Sore ga Seiyu ever and I think the Illya series is a bastardization that should be burned at the stake. Shimoneta is also pretty bad... It has been borderline drop material for most of its run for me. Whats wrong wtih Gakkou Gurashi and Sore ga Seiyuu? At the very least, I can't understand why you'd lump them with TLR or Illya.
I was lumping in them together only as "shows that don't appeal to me in the slightest". I only elaborated on Illya because I actually resent its existence.

For me, this season :
1- Rokka, maybe tied with Overlord 2- Gakkou/Charlotte 3- Gate / God Eater (if not for the constant delays...)
Dropped tier (aka, trash tier) : Chaos;Dragon Kuusen Madoushi : AKA, trash magical school students fighting insects. Game of Laplace

And as far as Sore ga Seiyuu, how can a show with the following possibly be bad:

That's Inoue Kikuko's joke.
That chara doesn't look 17 anyway.

From reading the summary and checking out its page early on combined with some of the early comments Gakkou Gurashi didn't seem like it would appeal to me at all. And that pic doesn't help Sore ga Seiyuu lol, that even more so doesn't seem like it would be up my alley.

That chara doesn't look 17 anyway. Originally Inoue Kikuko. Yukarin uses it a ton, as do plenty of others after joining the club. Inoue in fact invited Nana to the forever 17 club back in like 1992, and Nana literally just laughed in response. It was pretty fun to listen to Inoue talk about newbie Nana.

OMG the ass-man speech is actually in the first season? That shit's so amazing rofl. I stopped watching at episode 2 because I hate waiting for new EPs. I love the manga though it's so ridiculous and entertaining. It's one of the few that actually pokes fun at itself constantly. I'm gonna have to give it a go when the season ends.
Other than that there really hasn't been anything this season that has caught my eye. God Eater has stunning (stunnnnning) animation and shading but the story is just eh and the fan service is abundant (though not as much as PS obviously so I don't know how I could complain, I guess it's just that in PS the fan service is a part of the humor whereas in God Eater they're killing monsters).
Shokugeki no Souma...call me weird but I just couldn't get into it. My friends are raving about it. I've watched a bit too much Hell's Kitchen, I guess. And for me if you're going to orgasm with every bite you eat you might as well go whole hog with it and be even more ridiculous...
I'll agree that Arslan is the slowest shit I've ever seen O_O. And Nisekoi refuses to go anywhere...at all. It lost the goofy appeal that the first season / chapters held for me and started recycling itself.
My friend told me to check out Gangsta...I'll have it to give it a go. Otherwise a rather unexciting season for me.

Instead we get the upcoming run around before anything happens and Tuka's horrible arc. Rokka continues to be great loving how the world's strongest man fights, but I'm worried where this is going after the arc. Not that we're going to be getting anything beyond this arc this season with only 12 episodes, but I might read the LN. Some comments here suggest it just gets weird and loses focus? It doesn't lose focus on what's happening. It just likes to throw plot twists at you all the time. Rokka's story seems like a really simple defeat the demon lord plot so after this plot is over it would be smooth sailing. Defeating the demon lord is a regular event that happens every hundred years how hard could it be? Though the only reason the story is interesting is because of the complications and it's not just fighting demons so as long as the plot twists are well written it should be good. No, the demon lord is the prize after the mystery is solved. The mystery isn't solved yet even in the latest volume released. It's more of a mystery book than a "lets go kill big bad" adventure story. Well, since we now know that demon lord is + Show Spoiler +a cute girl who is into yuri , it is indeed a prize
Anime of the Century right here.

Now that's a show moving at glacial pace....

That strange situation where you watch something you were expecting to be mediocre at most, but turns out to be pretty good. I didn't expect to like SAO II, let aside find it amazing.
I thought SAO 1 was bad at its very concept. I hated the peacing for the first arc. Then after episode 14, we started to see people in the real world and the episodes got much, much better, imo. SAO II takes everything good from SAO I and let the slow pacing behind. I loved GGO for the action and I loved Mother's Rosario for the story. Excalibur was completely skippable.
|
I'm surprised you thought the pacing improved. When I was trying to like GGO I had to skip whole episodes just to try like it. Pacing felt far worse than that of the first season. Maybe the pacing was similar but in the first there wasn't that big a sense of urgency so the slow pace felt a better fit where as GGO has this clear time limit but still dragged on just as much. First season was more of a classic fantasy adventure where as second more an action story yet the pacing didn't adapt to changes in narrative.

Finished up Zegapain. That show went downhill for the last few episodes. I hate it when authors have all option layed down to write a great end but decide to go for asspulls and plotholes. Still a very good and surprising show. Gets an 8/10 from me because I really liked what they did with it for a long time and because the story was great. Here is my shi...ort wrap up from what I wrote on MAL (contains a few spoilers):
+ Show Spoiler +Really underrated show but also so much wasted potential. I usually dislike mecha shows and avoid them but somehow came across this one and picked it up. I'm glad I did. The general idea for the mechas is ok I think and for the first 20 episodes this had much more focus on its sci-fi aspects than on the mecha ones. The overall setting and story was very well done for a long time. There have been small hick-ups and breaks in continuity here and there but it didn't too much damage. Only for the last few episodes the writers decided to go all nuts and create an ending full of asspulls and plotholes. It's sad because it's not like they wrote themselves into a dead end like in so many other shows. They had tons of options to end this series in an interesting and captivating way but they didn't. I'm also a bit sour that they had some nice set ups for characters psychological development and didn't go through with it. For example Ryoko being only available in the mecha or the death of arque. I'm still giving this an 8/10. It was a very good show for a long time and I enjoyed it a lot most of the time. For the overall show, the bad ending hadn't too much weight. I just created a sour after-taste in my mouth because it could have easily been so much better.
