Also, what do you think of Tanks and air planes, out of curiosity? And easy way to "warm up" to giant robots, is to just think of the giant robots as very impractical tanks or air planes, just tools used in war (that happen to be cooler than regular tanks).
that's the problem they are impractical and I dont find them cooler either. Sure I watched TTGL, Code Geass and FMP but never because of the robots. I kinda prefer actual humans being cool over some robot. For me it's easier to relate to a human instead of a machine. This is probably my own bias again but in mecha animes I found the most annoying male leads so far.
Shinji from Eva Suzaku from Code Geass Simon from TTGL
all combined make me not like mecha anime I meant rehash more in a way of never ending story it goes on and on and on, like the bleach manga I blame my bad english here
Well rather than trying to relate to the tool, why not try and relate to the pilot?
Like for example, in Berserk, do you try and relate to Guts' Sword, or Guts? Guts, right? So in Gundam, would you try to relate to the pilot (like Amuro), or his machine? Again, the pilot.
But the thing that makes Mecha-fans like Mecha, is that you can not only relate to the pilot, but you can try to relate to the mech as well, since its humanoid. Plus come on, whats not cool about Giant Robots?

But dudes....just finished Eureka Seven.....wow. That was pretty mindblowing. A little bit confusing and WTF at times....and Renton annoyed the shit out of me the whole time....
But it was good. And by good, I mean really good. The soundtrack is also worth listening to....so I have it on my iPod now. ^^
Eureka Seven is probably my favorite anime ever, and i'm glad you stuck through till the end. 'Cause i felt the same way after.

Silly Caff, Gundam SEED only has 50 episodes. This "Destiny" abomination people refer to every once in a while never actually happened. A bad dream or something.

His attitude was soo annoying, it was almost as bad the Fate/Stay Night main character with orange hair. Then again my favorite character in GSD was no one, i didn't really like anyone, except maybe people on the archangel :x And the whole Minerva crew just pissed me off, esp Shinn and Lunamaria.
Now that I've finished Eureka Seven....I have almost no intention of watching any Animes save for the ones that are lined up this fall.....
New Animes have been ruining my life and my scheduling......but.....
I guess I'll do it anyway. Any new recommendations? I was thinking of watching Spice and Wolf....but sorta panzied out after realizing that I sort of didn't like the artwork....
A lot of people are talking about Amagami SS....though I don't know if I should watch that......
I'm also sort of done with mechs for now, and I don't feel like probing into Gundam, but yeah...I'm also thinking of looking into Bones. I know Shauni had recommendations a while back. I didn't respond because I was saving up my 1000th post....

You should give Spice and Wolf a try it's great and by far better then Amagami where only the last arc is decent and Haruka.
If you want to look into Bones I think " Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 " was from them too and really good too.

What's wrong with Spice and Wolf's artwork? I kinda understand the regular complaints about "economy is boring", "meh, not enough action", "I dislike character x", but you are the first who said something about the artwork.
Edit: Disclaimer - I really really like Spice and Wolf.

I think the first few shots were a little bit iffy to me.
But I think I'll give it another try.
I dislike Spice and Wolf a fair bit.
The premise is interesting enough; a young (male, this becomes important later on) merchant is on his regular trade route when he stops by a village during their wheat harvesting festival - the idea is that they show appreciation to the "ancient wolf" that had blessed their land many years ago. As per usual, the festival is a sort of capitalist bastardization of the events. Come one night he wakes up to find a human/wolf/thing stowed away in his cart - this is his encounter with the wise old wolf, which would set up the journey the two of them make to find and bring her to her "home."
However, therein starts to lie some issues.
1) the author's not smart enough (might be different in the books). For a story so heavily laden with economy, merchantry, and financials it was a bit bizarre to see most of the plots revolving around some underhanded merchantry as opposed to direct economics. This is all the more bizarre when you consider that the protagonist is supposed to be relatively veteran when it comes to these things, and yet he makes the most stupid of blunders, and the plot device goes as such: a) MC makes retarded blunder that would throw people into prison for debt b) by fortune, quick wits, and Horo's cunning, he makes it out c) moves to next town d) go back to a this is aggravating, and further is compounded by 2) Horo's cunning tends to be long-winded (never direct, always does these willy-nilly coy BS that overdramaticizes the main character's plight for 5 episodes before being "solved" in some dumb way.) This then underlines 3) Most of the anime series ends up becoming more of a series of flirtation between the two than an actual "wise old sage vs young lad." While it's not too surprising for a Japanese LN (and I say this with an obvious sarcastic, distasteful tone) it really ruins the premise of Horo the character and starts a downspiral of bad.
I don't recommend it unless you fall in love with Horo. I'm a staunch believer in that being the one and only reason people actually like the anime.
Edit: TL;DR For the series to be good, Horo needed to be like Senjougahara from Bakemonogatari. Instead she ended up being like some random girl from a harem anime of your choice. Good game.

After watching the original Gundam series, they seriously needed to incorporate the amount of slapping into Destiny and Seed. Like every moment Amuro went into the sad puppy I hate my life moments, someone would straight up slap him and tell him to take the dick out of his mouth cause they weren't going to die due to his shitty psyche. That was refreshing.
Hey TL! I call upon your vast wisdom to help me again. I just finished Watching Toradora! and it was an amazing Anime (The ending was a little.. not to my liking, but anyway) It was amazing and I would love to watch more like it. You guys know any similar to it? Thanks in advance! Rock on b(^_-)z

before we now list tons of generic tsundere harem animes I'd advise you to watch
Ef ~ a tale of memories ~
And Southlight while I basically agree with the basic premise you outlined I have to disagree with the part that the male lead always messes up because of stupidity. Literally none of the economic events in the anime were problems that he himself was responsible for. I have to agree that the anime has an episodic feel to itself which is mostly due to the fact that the Light Novels are build in that way. Until the sixth or so novel it stays this way. The two anime seasons covered the first 4 books of what are now around 15 or so. And really what kind of big buisness stuff did you expect when you saw a traveling merchant? It's not like he has the funding to do anything too big.
But yeah the Horo part is probably true, she's great after all

I'd like to add to the list by suggesting Clannad, and Welcome to the NHK!, pretty good dramatic/sad anime. [Edit] I almost forgot about REC, you should watch that, though it was short it was definitely good.

A good dose of Bright slapping would have made SEED better, and maybe would have made Destiny avoid the train wreck. Too bad the Shinn x Stellar plot had to set Destiny on course for a train wreck.
As an econ major and an avid reader, Spice and Wolves was pretty disappointing. I'll just say that pretty much everything Southlight said is true in the books as well. Especially the tl;dr portion. Horo needed to be on a Gahara-san level of a conversationalist, she failed to hit that level, author overcompensates with nonstop flirting. In a way she is really just like a Gahara-san gone wrong..
The author has it quite easy by having things take place in a medieval setting and consequently would only need to have really simple economic ideas, the problem is that to get a conflict going, Lawrence needs to fail invariably. He would just have to do completely retarded stuff so Horo can save him somehow. That's ok for a few books, but after a while you wonder how he is still incapable of doing the slightest him by himself. While the whole basic setting of the characters don't help as to this, there are still ways that the author can get around it, except that simply never happened. Meh.
So yeah Horo is about the only thing keeping anyone interested in S&W I hope.
Hi people. Been watching the recent episodes of "Fortune Arterial", and found i've really been liking the plot in it, and was wondering if anyone else here had been enjoying it, and prehaps could reccomend any animes with a similar feel/ theme for me to watch while im slowly waiting for episodes to come out
man really what's wrong with japanese and these wimpy male leads. I'm reading Mirai Nikki right now and again the male lead is a wimp but fortunately Yuno makes up for it, what a crazy girl :D
Its like the basis for generic harem Animes as said before. Oh and the leads are also indecisive. Personally, they're really boring, but I watch them anyways to see whats up, unless it is stupidly boring like Sora no Otoshimono.
