I don't consider anime as my hobby. I know that a lot of animes are filled with gender clichés. I can handle clichés if they aren't first priority in the show. I just can't stand jokes about them. I can also see past that if the rest is interesting to me. And from time to time there is an anime to find where gender clichés don't play a role at all or only in a natural way. Don't be so fast to jump onto conclusions like that.

I liked Baka Test A LOT but I can understand how people don't like it. It's really hit or miss somehow. I remember comparing it to yugioh when I was a couple episodes in, simply because the story (classes fighting against each other) felt like it made no sense at all with random, new, special-rules thrown inbetween. Rules that noone ever heard before just so that one particular class can win this episode while everyone knows we'll never ever hear of those new rules again nor will they be used again... you know, just like in Yugioh It was pretty stupid.
At some point it did make click for me though and it went from boring/stupid to funny but yeah, can understand it if people don't like that.

baka s1 is nice, s2 i didnt watch more than 2 episodes iirc due to unknown reasons (happens when something didnt interest me enough etc).

Legend of the Galactic Heroes - My Conquest is the Sea of Stars
+ Show Spoiler +
I'll be honest i wasn't particularly thrilled with this movie since the majority of its fight happen in terrain-less battlefield feels too empty .. it feels like a situation where you put siege tank lines in an open field front of each other then agree with your enemy not to fire to each other until the moment you agreed upon. (i know it's not what happened since both sides are deciding if they are getting baited into a bad position but it looks like that)
Well there was the planetary combat at the start but it feels like a random asspull about nuking the planet and all the gas or was it methane(i forgot what was it sorry but the element explodes) exploded since that part was introduced when they started to detonate the planet for the enemy ships flying in low altitude to evaporate.
They nitpick too much like everyone outside the MC's are dumbasses or if they are designed to be dumbasses i don't like it. I don't like it although the other characters have meat and not stereotyped.
Idk it's not bad it seems better than most shows if i compare this movie but i guess i overhyped myself that i end up slightly disappointed.
I assume this is not one of the high points of the show.
I guess i can consider this as a hyping movie for our main duelists of the show. I assume this gets so much better later parts of the show.
Even with my complains i am actually excited for the series !
@Sent : you were right it's not long lol i should have just given my full attention on the movie when i first watched it

Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de episode 2 is so hilarious. + Show Spoiler + This show is just some next level retard from Trigger as I thought.. The end was getting a bit 2deep4me though. still, expecting more over the top and brainless moves.
Also, what are good sub groups beside Horriblesubs? They haven't done Amagi Brilliant Park it seems, but it is discussed here for a bit and I kinda can't wait
|
Horriblesubs isn't a "sub group". They just rip CR streams so if CR isn't streaming then you won't find them. Vivid is doing Amagi Brilliant Park, don't know if anyone else is. Deadfish just takes other fansubs and re-encodes them. Sometimes nice depending on who they taking.
Just go to https://www.tokyotosho.info/ or http://nyaa.eu/ and type in show you want.
edit: Dam I didn't know there were prequel movies to the series(Legend of Galactic Heroes). I should dl them, I got the series but haven't started watching it yet.

is it? HS seem to claim otherwise on their own website though horriblesubs.info. It doesnt matter anyway. Just want some 720p anime that have decent subs (subtitle position and overlapping and stuff) and release on time every week. I will take a look at Vivid one then
Actually I get my shows from https://animetosho.org/ because I can't torrent. Thanks by the way

HS are just fucking around and "trolling", lmao. Most likely trying to rile up /a/ or something. They rip their subs from CR and funi.

That whole post is basically sarcastic trolling lol. HS isn't bad, they fast and normally the translations CR get aren't horrible. Certain shows I'd never watch through them like Monogatari but largely they fine. VIvid seems fine, don't know if they do it themselves or not but I haven't seen anything glaringly bad. If you can't torrent there's always IRC to get direct downloads.
To give more context I think some people in /a/ or the fansubbing community get pissed at HS being called a fansubbing group so that's basically HS taking the piss out of those guys trying to get them mad.

welp my life was a lie T_T. I thought Horriblesubs is the best sub group because they are horrible. must be true right, why else anyone calling himself horrible. Joke aside, it is because they have a planned out release schedule and cover most of the anime so I can just track them in the calendar for whenever new ep is out. At least I haven't seen anything blatantly bad from their subs, except those weird censorship which may explains that they are ripping from other sources.
Anyway, is there a master-tier sub group that do majority of the anime in the season? I like to keep my stuff uniform from one source.
@Numy: why not Monogatari series by HS? is it something really horrible?

Monogatari has a lot of important language and word play. Any sloppy translations hurt the show tremendously so a CR stream which generally has passable translations isn't going to get you the most out of it. Well the most you can with translations at least. We'll never full get the novels without knowing the language but good translations are a decent compromise.
Deadfish actually give credit to the groups they take from(http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=600509 check the file description). Any group that has subs the same time that CR/Funi streams it most likely just rips from them unless the Raw got uploaded a day or two prior to the EN Stream. That's why HS can have a schedule and fan subs groups don't fyi.
There's no real subgroup that does everything, you'll see commie in most shows but they have a rather large list of translators so it's not really the same people doing each show. The quality goes up and down due to this. Any BD release is going to be fan subbed. For these I check out Bakabt, Coalgirls also does a bunch of stuff that I like. 1080P Monogatari BD are where it's act. Don't think there's anything wrong with HS for watching ongoing stuff though but when BD come out you should get those for rewatching definitely.

well im not sure about the other ppl but I figured Deadfish out b/c on Nyaa they have color coded downloads (like one color is from a trusted sub groub, one color is a reupload [like deadfish stuff], and so on.
The censoring that we've seen from horriblesubs is b/c of the channel/time the anime airs in japan (so it's censored for the kiddies), so it has actually nothing to do with HS or even the places they rip it from (Crunchyroll)....the raw unsubtitled form is censored too.

Not as funny as reading manga and working back 2 languages to JP though.

Some times you do get raws from a different channel that isn't censored. Remember there being a show this year that was like that but I can't remember what it was. Generally yea you won't get uncensored until BD come out.

Definitely due to whoever gives the translations/editing to CR. HS does nothing aside from pull the video. I've noticed this two when rewatching a show that i previously watched the CR to and comparing certain scenes. What tends to happen is the publisher(Or is it distributor?) gives the translations over to CR and they then stream it, that's why occasionally you'll have delays of the EN stream even if there's no delay on the JP one.If I can help it I won't get HS for a show I actually care about but well not maybe that fit that description.

Censor is always going to be there for the broadcasts, the degree of censorship varies depending on the broadcasting station though.
I don't know if it is due to time constraints because they want to simu-air something but silly errors are everywhere in the translations. At least it adds to comedic factor.

@Numy: why not Monogatari series by HS? is it something really horrible?
p/s: how do you find if some group do their own subs or rip from other source, like in Deadfish case?
you'll have a hard time finding a group that covers anywhere close to what HS "covers". Most groups sub a handful of shows per season and you're bound to collect different stuff from different groups.
CommieSubs have/had a decent tracker as well because they show progess in theirs. Like when stuff aired in Japan, what stage of subbing they're currently at (translating, actually putting text into the video, encoding and so on) and while they do cover A LOT when compared with other sub-groups the do not cover as much as HS at all.
HS made a post on their page about the fact that they're just ripping in case people weren't aware of it. If something is missing on the page as in, "should have been out 30 minutes ago but isn't yet" there's often explanations about how it has to do with CR being down/delayed or something like that
As for Monogatari... it has a crapton of stuff you can read and it's a crapton to translate and put into the video. HS don't fix their mistakes if they happen to have some and more importantly for something like that you want something that you really like, just from a pure aesthetics point of view because it is so hard to read with just the amount of text. Some people may prefer to not have the split-second screens translated at all, some prefer it to have both japanese and english, some prefer to only have english to reduce the amount of *stuff* on the screen and in some cases it's just about placement of the text. I agree on that part, I wouldn't watch Monogatari from HS either and much prefer the CommieSubs version which comes at a mighty 1080p at it as well o/
Long story short: If HS doesn't cover it you'll have to go search for it yourself. I'd say Nyaa.se is a tad easier to browse than toykotosho. Just put it on "anime - english translated" and search for what you're searching for. Alternative would be checking out MAL. There's a infobox that has all the (most of the) subgroups that are doing the show and you can pick whatever you want and go to their page directly.
If you can't torrent you're bound to do that anyways.

Ah maybe it was just a different degree of censorship.
As for errors I'm not sure why. I remember the Funi stream of Akame no Riddle kept keeping the name of the person instead of using pronouns like we do in English so it ends up reading like a crazy person. That's someone that should have been picked up in the first 30 seconds of someone looking over the work but I guess no one cared enough. Show was shit anyway, lack of promised yuri. Latest Log Horizon also uses the literal translation of the city instead of the city name so you can get this weird confusion of where the spies are actually from. They didn't do this last season so I assume it's different people translating now.
