TL;DR : These are the summer anime in ranks set into tiers. The tiers are 1) Brilliant/Must watch 2)Good/Should Watch and 3) Bad/Watch at your own risk. These are NOT listed in any type of order. + Show Spoiler [Ryu's Ranks Bitches] + Tier 1: Brilliant/Must Watch Akami ga Kill This show has been solid all season for me. I'm super excited to see where it goes. A few good surprise deaths, i keep guessing in who's gonna die next. Sword Art Online II To be honest, I loved season 1, even the Alfheim part (coulda done w/o the whole cousin ridiculousness but whatever). I liked GGO arc a lot. It was tense at the right times, had some cool fights, and overall an enjoyable story. Also, i love God Mode Kirito so it's fun to watch him go off. Can't wait for more! Barakamon This was brilliant! So hilarious, and yet had some really good touching moments. I loved the interactions between Naru and Sensei. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Possibly the best show of the season. I've never really read manga let alone shoujo manga but i still got a lot of the jokes in this. The parody was hilarious. The crazy characters made this show so enjoyable. Sabagebu! The surprise of the season for me. This started out so brilliantly strong. It sort of stalled in the middle but then ended up closing on a note higher than it started. I really loved the comedy in this, and the characters were great. Tokyo ESP Truly I loved this show. I know a lot of people automatically go "oh it's just like xmen" and dump on it, but it's not really like xmen and imo it's really really good. Rokujouma no Shinryakusha I'm not sure if this should be here or down 1 tier. I had an enjoyable time watching this, but i donno. It felt real predictable but that in itself wasn't much of a problem. The girls were all good in this and provide a lot of good moments. Majimoji Rurumo I made an executive decision in placing this here. It's got your basic fanservice and ecchi based comedy. But there's this deep underlying story between Rurumo and MC and the ending was amaaaaaaazing! Tier 2: Good/Should Watch Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance A harem fantasy, it was pretty decent. I wish there was more so we could see the damn blade dance they spent all season working towards. Zankyou no Terror This was actually really good. Had some nice suspenseful moments and riddles and puzzles to figure out. I liked the ending but it felt a little rushed. Tokyo Ghoul This wasn't to terrible. I've heard they butchered the manga but since i don't read the mangas it doesn't really hurt it for me. The censoring was terrible but that's ok, i'll just rewatch later when it's released. The story did seem to rush and jump around a bit, which is probably a side effect of the manga butchering Momo Kyun Sword Actually this turned out to be not bad at all. If you can get past the ridiculous ridiculous fanservice (Momo's bewbs so huge!) and it turns out to be pretty enjoyable. Also one of the Oni Captains has a completely stupidly hilarious laugh that he does all the time that my brother and I both just lose it to. Tyahahaha, Tyah ha, Tyah ha, Tyahahaha! Ao Haru Ride Um I'm not sure what to say about this. Typical romance, I liked the main character, she definitely made it interesting. But not memorable enough for me to remember her name off the top of my head ![]() Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus This turned out okay. They should have just made a movie of it, it wasn't enough material for a whole enjoyable season. I guess if i read the manga i'd have more of an opinion but i don't. At least it was better than Kuroshitsuji second season. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! This wasn't as nearly as enjoyable as the first season. A lot more focus on SOL stuff instead of the fantasy/magical girl action from the first season. Tier 3: Bad/Watch at your own risk Rail Wars So much PLOT and yet no plot. Bakumatsu Rock The premise is completely stupid, but the music was good. Not a good show though. DRAMAtical Murder zzzzzzzz......zzzzzzz...huh what? oh i was watching this animeeee....zzzzzzz Glasslip The pretty ass visuals could not save this awful awful boring story. IF you're still alive after reading all of that...here's what I plan to watch this next season!!!! + Show Spoiler + Cross Ange - started a little weird but seems like it might be cool (if they focus on the fighting now and stop the rape scenes :/ ) Hitsugi no Chaika - omfg season 1 was gooooood can't wait for this shit! F/SN UBW I've watched F/Z and F/SN but haven't played/read source. Epilogue was pretty damn epic though. Grisaia no Kajitsu Seems interesting. Characters seem fun and there's an air of mystery that's piqued my interests. Log Horizon 2 Start wasn't terrible. pretty much just picked up right away from season 1 and took off. Madan no Ou to Vanadis This one I really really liked the first episode. I'm excited about this show Shingeku no Bahumut - Genesis Seems interesting. First episode wasn't bad. Terra Formars Some good ol' fashioned sci-fi themes....im into it. The ones I haven't watched the first episode of yet and I'm still debating on whether or not to watch this season are: Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete World Trigger Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai Parasyte

Then it balks some more at people apparently liking Amagi when it was mostly Isuzu while making blind moe not blind. On October 09 2014 03:45 ragz_gt wrote: Deathscythe is usually the least useful one from W in SRW though I think more a case of everything not Wing being mostly useless in SRWs.

+ Show Spoiler + Akami ga Kill - Terrible writing, fights are uninspired and uninteresting. No high points. *Correction. One very good high point. Not afraid to kill characters on both sides thus there is an actual element of danger when fights occur. Find all its faults a lot more forgivable in manga format despite it being a faithful adaptation. Barakamon - A nice show but over rated slice of life that isn't on par with things rated below it like Hanasaku Iroha or far funnier animes like Baka to Test. Comedic timing is off in this show & forced reactions don't fit sometimes. Despite liking Sensei, he can get pretty annoying. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - Forced the chars into their roles super early, but still managed to be genuinely funny and entertaining. The easiest watch of the season thus the best show of summer with a likeable cast. Sabagebu! - Hit & miss comedy. Strong start, bad middle, forgettable end. Worth seeing the first few minutes of episode 1 alone though for the line of highschool karate. Rokujouma no Shinryakusha - Yurika is the main reason to watch this. Loveable idiot antics and an endearing attitude. The rest of the girls aren't bad either, but it gets into super cringe worthy harem where the MC is forced into unfunny battle events. Becomes awkward at best and I'm embarrassed I didn't drop it at episode 4-5 where the highpoint was introductions & SoL. Zankyou no Terror - ZnT was good production without enjoyment. It lacked engaging characters that you respected/liked so it was hard to care about what happened in the series. If the characters were more likeable it really wouldn't be hard to give more of a shit about what's happening. By episode 4 the only half likeable character was the detective. Tokyo Ghoul - Average. Butchered manga adaptation that is highly sped up. There's like 3-4 really good scenes in the series. All of them are short. (Motorcycle scene less than 10 seconds long, mother scene, and I may have been lying about 1-2 more good scenes). Maybe the gourmet? The stronger season. + Show Spoiler + Cross Ange - needs more rape scenes. Hitsugi no Chaika - The mystery of chaika keeps this alive. Don't think the show does anything well but will watch when too bored to do anything else. Chaika, Dragoon, & Incestor are all likeable at least. F/SN UBW - My mind is steeled. Thank you based ufotable. Archer is a sexy beast that could make any man or woman blush. Grisaia no Kajitsu - Fairly boring porn adaptation. Feel like it could be better if it weren't just panel for panel manga adaptation and Shaft directed it and put some head tilts and pazazz in there. Bones would do it well too I feel by taking a little liberty with source material and add some experienced directing spice. So far it's bad. Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Likeable & worth a shot at continuing. Shingeku no Bahumut - Genesis - Second best show of the season. Hate the MC's fro and his orange lips. But the production + intriguing set up could make this the first best show of the season. Doubtful, but... not impossible. Awesome girl may be awesome. Seems well directed but MAPPA will go bankrupt at this rate. (Aka same guy who almost made madhouse go bankrupt or w/e). Terra Formars - Seems like a decent survival horror. Hate the cockroaches but kind of want to see if they have any powers other than walking slowly towards people and killing them. Aka do they ever get on their legs and run at super speeds? Waiting to see if earth gets invaded first. Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete - Something seems wrong with the art in this series... no good things to say about it yet. Nothing stood out. World Trigger - Toei animation $5 budget. Even if it had the best source material in the world it wouldn't matter. Parasyte - Not a great first ep but not downright awful. Worth a few more episodes. Why dubstep?;;; Completely unbiased thoughts on Brilliant Park - Based Kyoani is back and will save the anime industry with amazingly timed humour, effective use of sound effects to accentuate said humour, and great dialogue that inspires the minds of millions. Or it will just end up like Nozaki. A strong show but not a godly one.

Find the point about killing characters a bit silly. The character deaths are almost meaningless as they either are done so quickly we have no real reason to grow any attachment to them other than "they people" or they have no tangible impacts on the characters/story. It's meant to be war right so people die in war which is fairly obvious but where is all the other issues around war? It's a generic shounen that throws in character deaths every now and then to try trick the audience into thinking it's something else. I don't mind it as a shounen, just hate how people hype it up to be something else.

I just threw that in there as a, "well, if you like it.. at least this is a good reason why". If it went full blown Bleach, OP, or Fairy Tail and never killed anyone for 300 chapters it would suck even more than it does.
