So far the series seems like something different when compared to the majority of anime that's been successful. but takes it's character design from multiple series. it almost feels like Gundam Seed characters in a Lost Exile series with sand. That said some of the characters look a bit "odd" as Maya, the mysterious girl has a pointy chin and the Captain of the Natura ship has a similar design (albeit a completely different character) to Maya. All in all this series looks like it could be promising, but could also end up being a dud.
The character design doesn't look anything like Hirai/Gundam SEED character design. Look at Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, or Captain Harlock if you want to see what the character design actually comes from.
Watched the first episode, and I'm interested. Leiji Matsumoto's are all classics, do I have high hopes for this.

Huh? You mean stuff like "*Ship name*, Launch!", "Yes sir!", "Roger!" type stuff?
I think he's referring more to random crap they throw in, like the "third order harmonic vibration" and "quantum transition engine" and the excessive use of acronyms, (FFT and QFT maybe it was QTF) spring to mind. They don't really bother me that much since I usually just ignore them.
The show seemed alright, nothing spectacular so far but certainly not terrible first ep so we will see. It's only going to be 6 eps after all.

From a search, Umineko seems to be well-recommended, but do I need to go through the Higurashis first? Watched the Higurashi animes already if that matters.
Umineko is completely unrelated to Higurashi, other than made by the same company. There is no need at all to read Higurashi to read Umineko.
Might as well add Tsukihime to that list too. Sharin no Kuni was also good.
GJ on finishing Alternative! I gotta ask this to everyone who finished it, but what was your reaction to + Show Spoiler +
CHOMP
?
Oh derp forgot to include Tsukihime on my finished list. I blame sleep deprivation. Thanks for the recs guys
The HEADCHOMP itself: "wait what just happened wait no they wouldn't... O_O wow" Afterwards, from interrogation onwards: "@Takeru: this is not good, don't do it don't do it don't do it don't do it don't do it someone please slap some sense into him not good not good not good" Meatgrinder: wow way to kick him while he's down
Basically, Xanadu is made and the Tomogara leave for it. Pheles and Johan have some offspring in a some container. It sucks that Khamsin dies. He was cool. I assume Yuji/Shana will fight in the final episode for like the thousandth time and thankfully the last time.
I have not read the light novels, but this has to be a poor adaptation of the series. I watch what transpires and get confused as to what goes on which leads me to look up some crap to figure out what happened (i.e. Hyakki Yakou). This series was a lot better back in season 1. Ironically, I don't know if more episodes would've been better to flush out the details, but I'm just glad that it's ending.

Is there a specific genre you're looking for, because there are quite a few anime with pretty good female leads.

Hmm, I have watched things like clannad and toradora! and on the other hand stuff like black lagoon, code geass, asura cryin, claymore, etc. So I guess romantic, comedy, action or something like that. Sorry if it's still a bit vague.

Currently this season, Rinne no Lagrange and Mouretsu Pirates in terms of sci-fi and mecha have been pretty good. Ano Natsu is a pretty good romantic series too. Mirai Nikki for psychological/thriller.
I don't think Code Geass counts as a series with a female lead does it?

Well no, I just listed things that I have watched and liked to give an idea of what genres I have been enjoying. I'll check some of those out (as for Mirai Nikki, while Yuno isn't *the* main character I guess she does make it qualified for what I'm looking for, or almost).

i seriously wonder if something can surpass redline, doesnt look like it from the trailer^^
I think that Paprika can definitely rival Redline in the visual department. I think that Redline is somewhat lacking in its storytelling. In short, Redline was fundamentally a full frontal graphical masturbatory object.
And that's precisely what I enjoyed it as and what I regard it as. There may be better movies (and I'm not saying there aren't, Paprika sounds interesting and for example Akira is a better movie IMO) but I was talking in terms of mindless, fucking awesome over the top action.

holy shit that episode preview for 12 is just depressing. also, this show just turned from "kinda like eva" to "really like eva" edit: now that i think about it, its probably more like gunbuster than eva lolol
I'm guessing an EoE/RahXephon end at least for the 1st cour. Well one more until the season break, then it picks up again in the summer so we have no idea how the first cour and the second cour will actually be joined together.
I somehow doubt tons of Chibi Lans are going to go around turning everyone into orange juice.
Geez, I usually don't like sports manga at all, but this whole thing was spectacular. Great character development, story turns, and just good art and writing every step of the way. I was kind of sad that + Show Spoiler +
Asahina's conviction took place off screen
, but other than that I enjoyed everything about it. Worthwhile read.
So, decided to try Mirai Nikki despite some really bad recommendations. Watched 5 episodes and it seems pretty interesting so I think I'll keep on watching it.
Does it get worse later on, or? I recall some real hate about it some months back. I'll probs keep on watching regardless but simply curious (without spoiling it obv.)
