Madara became stronger after he died. Also, in Shounen manga dead people apparently have unlimited energy and stamina(Dragon Ball comes to mind), which he didn´t have when he was alive. Thus he could use his techniques longer and more often than a not dead person probably can.
Newer generations surpassing the old isn´t invalid suddenly because of this.
If Hashirama was still stronger than Madara(for the rest of both their lifes), then we can assume some power ranks by that alone.
Third Hokage was strong enough to beat the First and the Second being revived by Orochimaru. But he wasn´t strong enough to beat the Fourth.
So 1 +2 < 3 < 4
Tsunade breaks the rule somewhat, because she was elected because of lack of other candidates, not because of actual power.
Anyway, I tremble in fear before the mighty plothole clusterfuck that´s gonna eventually come. Remember, kin= forbidden. I expect a lot of unholy/forbidden/timetravel/bullshit techniques being used for the explanation.

When was it stated that the fourth could beat the Third?

Probably implied when the 3rd gave his spot to 4th when 4th was super young and we saw that 3rd was well capable to being hokage in terms of ruling and also in terms of fighting power.

Ugh tsunade isnt that strong at fighitng head on because she a medical ninja. She is more of a support. It is also implies that she is probably the strongest Medical Ninja ever. In 1v1 situation she might lack but she was one of the few that push for medical ninjutsu and innovated it. She has the power to protect the entire population. I think she definitely deserve the role of hokage. Just because she can't fight 1v1 doesnt mean she not powerful. I think she is just equaly as powerful as the other kages.

the 3rd fought the 1st and 2nd long before power levels were properly determined, that or Orochimaru (who you know was the one CONTROLLING them) was only interested in toying around with the 3rd and giving him a death by 1000 cuts style
if the Hashirama we recently learned about was actually in control and fighting seriously he would have killed everyone in that barrier, broke the barrier and leveled half Konoha in one attack (ultimate Susano'o split a mountain just by swinging his sword once)
the 4th is not implied to be stronger then the third though he probably is because of OP flying thunder god jutsu the 3rd was old and retired

What's wrong with the idea that the 3rd can choose a successor when he knows he's about to kick the bucket due to old age?
The power levels are completely out of whack. Don't bother using logic to create a power ranking.

so what happened to the 10 tail? it's been 2 chapters since tobi revived it, maybe that past 2 chapters only took like 10 seconds in real time and the 10 tail still is in the process of roaring?

10 tails wasnt revived he started the process of smushing all the Biju together to recreate 10 tails

Like poster above me said 10 tails wasn't fully revived as he hasn't fully captured the 8 or 9 tails yet. It's probably just chilling in the back roaring it's head off while they chat about where Obito has been.

didn't obito teleport it out of there when kakashi used kamui on it? i'm pretty sure it isn't there atm.

he tried to warp the 10tail's head off to the other dimension, i think tobi used his own eye to shut down the rift of that warp.

Those stitches connecting obito's 2 halves look like kakuza's. I guess that would make sense considering he probably worked for madara beforehand. Does anyone remember if there was a date that akatsuki first formed, and when each member joined within the timeline? It almost feels like akatsuki was created a longgggg time ago ever since madara left konoha.

Yeah that was half-rhetorical/tongue-in-cheek ^^
As everyone knows (or at least I think it was this), the final battle will end with Sasuke versus Naruto etc etc, you have shounen friendship and maybe supertragicdeathending or supercomedicdeusexmachinaending. Guess we may soon find out!
