I don't understand your complaint. Why are you pointing these things out on a shounen manga that is targeted to boys age 12-18?

FT isn't meant to be taken too seriously. It's basically light reading material to entertain.
Sure it has some serious tones to it especially when it is advancing the storyline but that is basically where it is present. If you feel you are getting to old for this type of entertainment then stop reading shounen manga.
You want something a bit more serious, try QED (detective genre), Cage of Eden (non-zombie survival), Good Ending (teenage romance) or Green Boy (Korean Ippo Makunochi type story).
Want a bit more ecchi art with a bit of serious story to it, try Freezing, Sekirei and Aflame Inferno.
Because I mean c'mon, don't tell me you didn't expect Ezra to win against Kagura from the get-go? So there isn't much point in the complaints about how the story progresses. I'm just happy it is not filler crap.

this is the authors writing style, it was exactly the same in rave and will continue to be the exact same in Fairy Tail
if you ahve a problem with the manga, it will not be getting better or worse it will stay the exact same

also, you're reading the wrong kind of series if you're looking for character development. If you want a good, serious, mature action series then I recommend Biscuit Hammer.
Seriously, go check it out. It's relatively short (60 chapters) and it's pretty damn good, despite the silly name.

I still don't understand why people read this for epic plots and stuff. It's shounen for a reason... It's aimed at the general demographic of 12-18 year olds... If it sells well in Japan... then that's what they are going with.

Personally I think the mangaka is great in Natsu related friendship powerup cheeseattacks. It's just hard to pull off with Erza, cause the most epic thing you can do is like show off a new armor or something. I think that's why there's bitching for this one and not really the other. What the mangaka could have done is also introduce a sword style like Kenshin, but that'd require research so fuck that. JUST SMASH.
I thought this boost didnt really make sense (do you just smash harder? booooo), but whatever. He's been doing this kind of thing constantly this arc.... Give me some good Natsu cheese later on and i'll be happy.

But Rave Master had an epic plot line...
There wasn't that much friendship/ power-up stuff either. People died. Like people I actually cared about. Plot stayed on the same topic, but got progressively more complex and deeper. The ending... well, it was pretty great too.

Because it's simply bad. There are good shonen manga out there that would blow your mind, and once you've tasted those, you really start to realize how bad the ones like FT are. Just try reading hxh. Or Bakuman. Or Kuroko no Basket. You can't blame somebody for not liking things that you like. Me, personally, I started out liking FT, took a break during which I watched many (shounen) shows, went back to watching/reading FT and realizing how bad it actually was.
