Remembering Midnight's illusion, I think you first have to figure out that you're in an illusion, or have it cancelled through some other power (Erza's eye). So even if you're really strong, unless you figure out that you're in an illusion, you can't do anything.

This was one of the worst chapters in a while. There was so much build up to their power (minus flair of course) and how they were turning out to be a major villain, and now they're a joke. Laxus didn't even break a freaking sweat.

Laxus is probably 2nd most powerful or 3rd. Natsu beat him with Gajeel's help and plot armor.
Only people who are more powerful than him are Gildarts and possibly Marijane. I think he's a fair bit more powerful than Erza.

Laxus is definitely stronger than Mira. He was stronger before, and he's probably trained just as much as Mira in the time before the games.

I've always wondered how the story would have turned out if Laxus had decided to pull his weight when the Phantom Guild attacked, rather than sit back and watch. Then again, it probably would have been anti-climatic really.
