That's what happens when you're not the main character of the story. O well, let's see what being a main character of the current arc gets her. Yup :/ Wonder how Fairy Glitter will pan out though. Would be terrible if one of the "3 great magics of Fairy Tail" ended up being used by a scrub, and as a result being a scrub spell in practice. But, since Gildarts is her father...something will happen!

That was my first thought and I face palmed at it. Gildartz has been teased and foreshadowed to be an absolute beast and one of the strongest characters that we've seen. Him losing his first real battle, particularly when hes trying to protect his daughter would just be bad storytelling. Gildartz just roflstomping Bluenote would serve the story better than Cana saving him. Fairy glitter will come back later when Natsu (or whoever) likely uses it to beat Hades. I have to say I was really loving the art in this chapter, Gildartz's face, particularly the last panel, was just badass.

Easy dude, he roflpwns until the guy tries something that could potentially hurt his daughter, in which case he either blocks the shot or is distracted by the wound. He gets hurt either way, Kana digivolves to ultimate form, finishes battle with hax. Gildartz and daughter tell each other sob stories, and we move on to next fight.

I know that I'm personally happy we get to see Gildarts in action because I'd like to know how Bluenote is going to handle it. And as far as Fairy Glitter goes, I really hope Kana isn't going to get all depressed and it all goes to hell.

+ Show Spoiler + Is that Zeref in the flashback? He has the same outfit as Natsu but has the Fairy Tail stamp on the opposite arm. There was a rumor suggesting Zeref is the Dragon Slayer for the Black Dragon Gildarts lost his arm to.

I know it's a shounen but this arc has been so disappointing for me. Every character is losing and then just goes "Oh wait nope! I'm the good guy lol!" Very badly written arc to be honest. Unfortunately, it's already become a theme for the characters to win battles they shouldn't in this series and my interest is dwindling very fast. People hate on Naruto and Bleach but Fairy Tail is having terrible writing too. It's starting to feel like Reborn where the characters get random power-ups every other chapter. I guess I expect too much from shounen stories. I blame the authors. They come up with interesting concepts (who here hasn't imagined what a real fight could be like in Naruto if characters actually used a large variety of interesting techniques; just look at the first Bridge arc to see what could've been) and throw them away by having their characters be invincible, winning because of morals and friendship instead of fighting and teamwork. The adventure manga world is so sad. Either you read a story like this where the outcome is clear and you know there will be lame victories through FRIENSHIP! or you read a dark manga where everything is depressing. Wish authors had the common sense to take their interesting concept and make it work. If you make a story arc vs the toughest enemies (supposedly) in the dark guilds, and that your characters get defeated easily, don't change your mind mid-way and have them all become suddenly stronger. The only shounen manga that seems to get it is One Piece. It's not perfect but at least the power-ups make a bit more sense and Oda isn't afraid to beat the crap out of his characters.

I guess I'd like to see some more interesting motivations in the Fairy Tail characters. + Show Spoiler + Also, the whole 'superweapon' thing is just getting tiresome at this point, it's the 3rd time they've used it at the point I'm reading (I think that's too vague to be a spoiler but I'll put it there just for the sake of it. EDIT: who here hasn't imagined what a real fight could be like in Naruto if characters actually used a large variety of interesting techniques; just look at the first Bridge arc to see what could've been I totally agree. That Bridge arc was probably the best on in the whole of Naruto for me. As time went on there was less in the way of powers being used together in an interesting way and more of powers just getting more and more ludicrously powerful in the cliche'd "You were on the brink of defeating me... but now I turn the tables by POWERING UUUUUUUP". Also , I HATE HATE HATE so-called 'prophecies' and 'chosen ones' and 'this child is special.' It cheapens all of the character's accomplishments for me. I much prefer it when characters are just blundering around trying to get on with their lives and just happening to take care of things by the skin of their teeth. Granted, this hasn't happened so much in Fairy Tail, and I hope it doesn't. But I thought it was worth a mention since Naruto came up. Oops, went totally off topic there, my bad XD

I think that the intended age group for this manga (and Naruto, etc), makes the whole "friendship" power-ups understandable. And, yes, I know it can be perverted, but Japan has an extremely different culture when it comes to the age-appropriateness of drooling over breasts. Personally, I don't think Fairly Tail is supposed to be taken seriously to the point it would go down that "dark manga" road. Nor do I think that they only option for shounen to be realistic and badass is that road (Cowboy Bebop is a good example, disregarding the last few eps). I think it's intention is to be uplifting, funny and cute. You know, give you that warm, fuzzy feeling. :/
