Gildarts has b een stated since the early parts of the mange to be the strongest member of Fairy tail. Even Laxus when he is boasting about being the strongest says it because he doesn't believe "the old man" to be coming back. Gildarts is trusted with the most important jobs the guild receives and has done for at least 15ish years at minimum(since before Cana joined). Even his power and the way everyone has reacted to him (even Makarov and Hades) shows that he far beyond the average monster that is shown. He has to be kept far away from the action other that extreme moments otherwise he will truly solo everything that is not of the absolute highest degree to ever exist due to his magic, physical strength and pure magic power that is far above any other feat shown in the manga. If gildarts was in the Grand magic games FT would have trolled it SOOO hard it would not be funny. Gildarts would have casually solo'd everyone in the games with ease he is that OP. Attempting to argue against it is just stupid. Laxus may have defeated Jura but gildarts would never have even recieved a scratch against him due to the very least their magic difference and durability. | ||

btw Laxus solo'd everyone he faced in the Grand magic games. He had hard times against Jura just because Jura is the strongest human in the ten wizard saints. im pretty sure that Gildarts would have hard times against Jura too. You can call me troll or whatever you want. I think Laxus is the strongest, you think not. It's simple as that, im not going to change my mind. | ||

Judging their power levels can basically be summed up in who is fighting in this battle and who isn't. Laxus is powerful and above everyone else in FT (except Gildarts) so even he has to be handicapped for this fight. Gildarts isn't even there for a reason. On another note the new FT opening is pretty awesome. | ||

Say all of FT are at 10. Laxus is at 30, Gildarts at 70. Hades can still say that if he's thinking about a level of ~25 or something because he wouldn't expect anyone but Gildarts to be "close to this level" in FT. | ||
