The good news is that the government position i applied for is likely gonna accept me considering i am the only applicant they were doing a character investigation(i befriended all other applicants) and according to my friend where i worked before she was interviewed(she was the one interviewed) and they were willing to train me and overlook my deficiencies. So hopefully that works out for me. And well both BW and sc2 proscene have been a treat to watch lately(loved the meta of both game). I don't think i ever liked both game at the same time.

I'd probably like to get hired on. Sidenote :it is owned by a German company lol. Working house insurance is way less evil than health insurance. Work is going ok, though it is still a bit confusing that they have an intern doing some of what I do. My training is as a business analyst, but what I'm actually doing is Java development on a nightmarish IBM cognos backend, and some SQL development. I had a pretty in depth Java course so I have been mostly ok, but there are mistakes I make due to inexperience, and I'm occasionally assigned a nearly impossible task. Currently - write a xml parser for variable size/structured documents (about 450-1600 of them) that isn't a DOM parser (currently DOM throws heap errors after about 400). Looked at jaxb(doesn't like variable structures), woodstox (no decent tutorials for deeply nested structures).

A year-long internship though...? Isn't that selling you short of a proper trainee position? The weird tasks... They kinda lack direction lol

Internship is meant for college students. Those tasks are actually part of the IBM cognos backend lol, it is just a nightmare for any developer. Also : being tasked with writing a JavaScript extension for it, specifically because I DON'T know JavaScript. To test the extension I have to get our IT director to do it because he won't give permissions to my department. He said it is fine because he will just do whatever we want him to... So I'm supposed to email him dozens of attempts until he gets annoyed and grants permission. At least, that's my guess. No idea why they want me to do that otherwise.

Admins not granting permissions is nothing out of the ordinary, can be a big hassle but you could be on the money with the guess. Will they pay for a training in whatever it is you need to accomplish the tasks? They're kinda just waiting for you to figure things out? Is what you're working on not used on a daily basis?

I'm working on several things, but the DOM parser thing is used on 3 different servers, and only used on a daily basis by anyone is the smallest one - the one that has 450 documents generated, and right now the parser gets through 430 of them (this is something that was created by the intern before me, who was pretty good at Java but very bad at documentation), and no one really noticed that it didn't get everything until I made it run much faster. It's not used outside of our department either, so the controls are a little more flexible.
