(admittedly mega kanga / gengar are somewhat broken...) Gen 1 pokemon suck. I know its hard to hear it but without the stat boosts they've gotten in gen 6 they would be worthless and unusable. mega evolution help bring back life to those dead pokemon and that is a good thing from a game design perspective. Or they could have just... like... buffed them the normal way, without introducing a silly digimon mechanic. It's not exactly hard. They've already retconned in fairies etc. Also, making outrageous changes to old stuff, however you do it, is the very definition of giving in to power creep. I'm not sure how you think megas are preventing it.

Also requires creep. Tell mods to blow horn so creeps can spawn.

You can't prevent power creep. Its impossible it was a poor choice of words you just circumvent it. And how the hell is it digimon? The entire series is based on evolution and stones have been in since gen 1. This is just more interesting due to actually having to be used as a held item

digimon released sometime in the 200x, I watched the first season of it and own some digimon cards. It's sort of like pokemon besides the fact that digimons are more free and more like humans than just pet monsters.

I just think it's silly, and a huge departure from the steady progression that was such a fundamental aspect of pokemon. Even from the design perspective, I don't really see what it brings to the table except producing pokemon that can't use held items. In most cases the original forms have no purpose compared to their mega, so they may as well just have evolved normally.

In most cases the original forms have no purpose compared to their mega, so they may as well just have evolved normally. Red's Eevee in the original Kanto manga / alternate forms in general / abilities. There are lots of cases of pokemon reverting back their form before gen 6. As far as what it offers in a design perspective: Mega Garchomp vs Garchomp - The wall breaker vs the Sweeper Kangaskhan is still useful due to scrappy and can make for interesting decisions / plays. The same goes for Moxie pinsir Charizard / Mewtwo have suddenly become unpredictable in their own rights. The original pokemon themselves are super viable but at the same time their mega evolutions are actually scary and require a different skill set to stop them. Do you go for the mega counter or do you counter the normal pokemon? That is why mega evolution are cool. You have to work and think around what a pokemon can do. I ran a Blazekin normally but everyone thought it was M-Blaze due to it being uber tier so didn't accommodate correctly and generally lost as a result. You cannot get the same results with just normal evolution.

I'm not all that surprised. Fear's injury really has been hurting him. It's just sad if we have to see the old man finally retire, right when he put together the best squad that's been on EG in years.
