speaking of CM, how do you skill out? usually i get 1 of nova, followed by bite, aura, and rest into maxing nova first then frostbite. usually don't get more than 1 on aura, although it kinda depends on my team lineup.

because i feel that having nova pumped early on allows you to not only harass your opponent's heroes, but lets you get 1 or 2 creep kills per lane, giving you some sort of farm (unless you are babysitting a hard carry like AM or spectre)

Well the rule of thumb is to level bite when you're facing blinkers or heroes with high natural movespeed like slardar. Otherwise, take nova due to better damage return/aoe effects.

Usually Nova is the default way to play, but extra ranks of Bite have their uses, depending on your lane partner(s).

BH forces the opponent's supports to spend money on wards and dust as well, and it has the utility of scouting ahead in the jungle and so on. Track makes crucial heroes (not just riki) visible for a significant period of time for an entire team's ms boost and gold bounty.

It's really situational like other people are saying but numbers wise nova is better for damage and a 5 second slow while frostbite gives a 3 second immobilize. Frostbite is something you max when you lane vs dark seer or blinkers pretty much exclusively as putting 3 skill points into it only doubles the damage while nova gets 2.5x the damage, has a huge range and lasts 5 seconds.

Getting past one/two points in aura is something I tend to rarely do anymore - it only helps your lanes and a single set of arcane boots accomplishes what the aura does at its max level. (one point in aura is a free rob aura for your team, which is like 2500 gold - but 4 points in aura is like two sets of arcane boots which is 3000 gold). My maths a little screwy right now but this was kind of the logic behind why aura WAS so good, it could be quantified into a gold value. +2.0 mana regen x5 = +10 mana regen/sec, and anything that offers that kind of regen is VERY expensive.... until arcane boots.


There's also the AA CM where you go sny and max bite/nova/stats. You'll notice when he played CM in a more even matchup he actually did nothing even close to this. (He got a bkb + blink and ulted very effectively).

The thing about track being on crucial heroes is true of amp damage as well. Amp damage/track a pudge or es and they are NOT happy about it. I really think gondar being a counter to Riki is that he really limits Riki's escape mechanisms of cloud + leap, as riki won't leap out of track range and track outweighs the cloud slow. Gondar/Slardar are totally different heroes though, even their ults are really different despite at first appearing similar.

ya but in dota 2 creeps don't have the rob circle thing so unless they're clicking ur range creep constantly it'll be really hard

also gondar is really good against a lot of melee carries cus u just track them and they can't hit anything

Oh wow, did not know this. I knew RoB aura stopped working when invis but didn't know CM aura also stopped. I doubt most people spam check ranged creeps for mana aura but now that I know this, smoke ganks are muuuuch easier to predict. :D

I used to always go 1 level in both nova and bite, max aura -> max nova -> max bite, but lately I've been adjusting it quite a bit. I stop leveling aura once my team gets our first arcane boots and I split my levels in both nova and bite. Maxed nova is amazing but having a few levels in bite always helps for the slightly longer stun.

I personally feel CM is one of the best support heroes because she brings so much to the early game: AoE slow/damage and nuke/disable means it is so easy to harass and set up kills for your carry, and your teammates can just forget they have a mana bar. It's easy to farm with nova so you can always have gold for wards. I usually get phase boots on CM because late game I prefer to nip in and out of fights with these two spells. I rarely ever put points in ult or use it though unless I'm with some teamfight heroes like tide/enigma.

and you could do that in dota1 only it was stronger, so how is that not a nerf ?

Personal anecdotes are extremely strong arguments. I just played a game with mjolnir CM and I won. I guess it works guys.
