A dota tourney with such an amount of teams will have hundreds and hundreds hours of broadcast, make more than 10 times the prizepool in ad revenue, and the winning team will have like 600$/player. As a watcher I'm happy, but I understand why the teams are very unstable with those kinds of prize money. Well perhaps it will change after release, there's a good chance actually, but currently, the dota 2 scene is making a half-dozen of broadcasters very rich while the players are struggling. Organizing dota 2 tournaments is currently quite a profitable venture indeed. $5000 isn't hugely out of the norm for Asian DotA tournaments. There are bigger things (NGF has a prize pool of $21,000, G-League S4 is touting twice that), but a lot of tournaments have prize pools in that ballpark (Chinese tournaments like WGT and PCGL have similar prize pools, and many of the SEA teams participate in GMPGL or GEST which actually give out less money, IIRC).

OH MY GOD THIS IS HILARIOUS.
If anyone is up, watch the Demon stream right now, its a really high level matchmaking including Dendi, Xbost, Merlini, Puppeh, Pajkatt, Demon, Universe, and Bulba.
Demon had to go to the bathroom so his little brother is doing the drafts LOL.

Fuck, usually I don't open dota 2 EG streams because they spam ads but it looks pretty cool.

this thread has 5 trance stations of different live DJs. I'm not sure if it is on all the time but I have never had it go down for me.

I'm not usually one to do this but... just played the most retardedly ridiculous game I've ever played. -RD, their line-up was Riki, Clinkz, Slardar (Got Slardar first >.<), Witch Doctor, Kunkka, and ours was Tide, Dazzle, Drow, Warlock, ES. Past about the 15 minute mark, there was absolutely no way to stay on a lane or even in the jungle as any less than 3 heroes together without getting wrecked by stealth initiation, and so the game devolved into us running around as 5, trying to push lanes with ES/Tide/Lock ulti combos.
This went on, with us generally winning the fights and gradually picking up rax, until around 35 clinkz starting BD'ing our lanes while we pushed his, and eventually we ended up with megas, while they had taken out bot and top, leaving only middle alive. Around the 50 minute mark, as their final push was coming into our base at mid , megas took out their throne, with nobody there left to defend. I couldn't stop laughing for about 10 minutes after that. Checking back, even after our creeps had killed all of their structures, we still ended the game at about a 8 or 10k gold disadvantage, as well as a major level disadvantage.

So I noticed today that a lot of the "damage reduction" mechanic in DotA2 work completely differently than they do in DotA
In dota, due to engine limitations, what typically happened with "damage reduction" ala vanguard was that health equal to the damage reduced is added to the hero's hp at the point the damage is taken. In DotA 2, this doesn't happen and the damage you take is simply the reduced damage and no heals are given. Typically, this results in no noticeable difference in gameplay, but combined with other mechanics and situations, this can make a huge difference.
The two main heroes affected by this currently are Spectre and Tide. Since spectre typically gets a vanguard, the interaction with the dispersion mechanics becomes changed, resulting in dispersion doing slightly less damage in DotA2 and as such, might not make vanguard as great of an item on her in DotA2. Obviously similar situations occur with the usage of blademail in conjuction with vanguard.
Tide suffers from the same problem, because of the interaction of kraken shell's disable removal mechanic, "taking" 600 dmg tend to take somewhat longer in DotA 2 should levels be taken in the passive since the 28 dmg/hit at lv 4 is added to the counter in DotA and it isn't in DotA2
While these are minor differences, and I believe that certain other skills based on % of damage, such as Chen's slow and Kunkka's ulti, could also vary slightly in the game.
The main issues, imo, are probably what will happen when LoA and Bristleback inevitably get ported. Both heroes actually heavily rely on this mechanic and its hard to believe that they'll make it as though Bristlehack shoots 60% less quills from being hit in the back....
This stuff, along with other minute changes like shadow blade and crit stacking on kunkka is very interesting to me and might shed some light on why DotA2 occasionally just feels like a different game with different mechanics
