IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

I don't know how CTY/rz is comparable. CTY has proven himself, not just the 1vs1 tournament against some of the best players in china, but also in games against top teams. At worst he's been even on heroes that are at a disadvantage such as DK vs QoP.

Mechanics-wise, I don't think there's anyone better. And IIRC the hype from CTY didn't originally come from 2009? Wasn't he a known pubstar way before the 1vs1 tournament hosted by 2009?
You must gather your party before venturing forth.

He was, but 2009 was also hyping him way before then too.

There were several videos before the tournament started where 2009 had played some stacks with CTY and mentioned that he'd been recommending CTY to teams looking for new talent. If I remember correctly, CTY's ladder rating wasn't even that high yet at the time.

Cause KP needs to kick A god for MSS first obviously. Got to keep the hype train puffing along.

Since LGD is likely to rampage through the qualifiers all this really did was punish the up and coming teams that haven't proven themselves yet. Since LGD will win the qualifier, that qualifying spot is just going to go to a previously seeded team which means no exposure for newer team.

bleh, all around bad.

When you think about it in the long run it probably screws over the west wildcard completely. Assuming LGD wins, the western wildcard will probably be a team like VG which will probably school the west wild card...

Personally, I think the sensible thing to have done would have been to turn the LGD.cn invite into another qualifier slot, and put LGD in the qualifiers.

Then, if they can deliver with a new roster, they just earn their spot back and the rest of the qualifying teams are (more or less) unaffected.

Inviting someone else and then throwing a team like LGD in with the qualifiers is really just crushing to the minor teams.

The qualifiers aren't really unaffected if you have to adapt the tournament to a 9 teams bracket and ensure you can get a fair third place slot, specially in such short notice. It would be really troublesome for the organizers.

So my friend recently started getting unplayable fps drops as of the patch before ET - any idea why his dota would just randomly start lagging after working perfectly fine for awhile?

Also it's not like they did it any differently than how they did the rest of the invites. They just bumped TongFu up because they felt they were the next most deserving.

If anything I think it makes the qualifiers even more interesting.

I won't say it doesn't suck for the qualifier teams, because it kinda does, you were facing TongFu and now you are facing LGD, but there only reasonable alternatives would be to completelly remove LGD or not doing anything at all. Removing LGD would be terrible and I can see why Valve feels it's necessary to do something, so I won't crucify them even though in the end it kinda sucks.

the eastern qualifiers are gonna be a blood bath anyways, and apparently recently TongFu slaughtered Rising Stars and Rattlesnake, but I think Vici can take either TongFu or LGD.cn on, its not a guaranteed invite for LGD.cn by any measure in my opinion

And do they normally sell out right away?

I haven't gone so I'm not sure about assigned seating(I'd think you could sit anywhere) but I'd definitely expect them to sell out very quickly.

Which is sad considering one of them aint even Chinese. Although I'm more concerned with the recent trend in western dota fans of any American player who displays some talent is seen as the next coming of Christ.

Ah, perfect is shit. Such a good dota nickname.
Doesn't PIS actually mean something else and "perfect is shit" was just adopted later and got famous with the highlight video. I could be completely wrong, just something I heard. Yaphets prime was after I stopped following Dota 1 so I'm not all that clued in on him. Think I remember seeing him in mage or something, but the CH/Nirvana days I missed.

Vote for your 10 favorite players and the top 10 will play a showmatch at The International.
That could be pretty amazing.

ACE did all-star games last year. Was like one where it was just people voted as carry/support/etc then some random fun games. Burning played Zhou 1v1 mid techies.
