IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

At what point are you even good at DOTA? Even most professional players cant maximize their play. That being said, its not really the fault of the players but the game because its so unbelievably difficult.

You're never good. The best you get is that you realize you're not bad. And the moment you realize you're bad is the moment you realize you're better than most.

If I can't get into very high how do you think this statement makes me feel?
Can't believe how elitist this dota2 community is.
I don't know how that statement is elitist in any way.

Players always feel like they're bad in Dota, that's just what the game does to you. Bad/Awful/Good is ultimately just relative to who you're playing anyway. And in Dota, if the game is fairly even, you will always feel like you could be doing more.

Mainly because it's just more obvious what you could improve in Dota. I played Counter-Strike for about as long as Dota and I would consider myself good at CS, but that's more because when I look at my mistakes it's not that clear, I can't sit and make a list of improvements except like "be faster, aim better."

Ice3 feeding on ET/TC pretty hard atm, 1/9/10 so far.

Also being in Very High doesn't make you good, I'm a living proof. By all rights you're better than average then but still not necessarily good.

"good" is such a subjective term that it's pretty silly to have arguments about whether someone is good or not. If you're in very high you are clearly better than a large portion of dota players. By many definitions, that makes you good. However, being good compared to the general population is very different from being good compared to the pro scene.

Relative to most people, I'm a pretty good dota player. Relative to good dota players, I'm a very bad dota player. TL attracts a competitive community, so people here tend to compare themselves to good players.

I'm living proof that being in VH means you're good.

I'm in VH and i'm good.

A lot of us come from the SCBW community, where this sort of mentality is pretty much universal (a lot more so than SC2 from what i've observed)

I dno this is the same attitude most Dota1 players I know have. Then again that could partly be because they're older now.

You're "good" if you realize you suck. Being good is relative but realizing you're bad isn't.

It's kind of like how in iccup once you got to C you thought you were hot shit for being better than the mass of D "noobs" but people in B knew how friggin hard it was to get to A/A+ even though compared to C/D players they were super good. Somewhat similar in Sc2 where (at least for me and people I've talked to) most people make their goal to get into Masters but once you do you realize how much better top masters/GMs are at the game and suddenly Masters isn't all that great (even if you're worlds better than someone in gold).

In dota 2 go to recent games, and put in your name, then filter for one of the brackets to see if you're in it.

Keep playing and you will get there

Just have fun with your games though, and before you know it you will be a lot better. And watch a lot of professional matches.

I agree. It's not so much that you're good at dota, just less bad. And even if you were individually "perfect", the team aspect of dota adds a huge wrinkle to that.

I think one of the hurdles to get over coming from a game like BW or SC2 is that in pub games, you should not try too hard to emulate pro play. Obviously there are certain aspects of the game that can be learned from watching pro play, but being successful in pubs requires a certain different mindset to be successful. Thinking about the game too hard from the team perspective (which is the way competitive games are approached) will lead to a lot of frustration in pub games because your teammates will always let you down if you think like that. You have to think a lot harder about your own development and developing your own role in the game (which, in many cases, will mean play more selfishly).

I'd say past the point where you have the basics and are accessing a lot of resources like pro games/streams/etc. this difference in mindset can increase your success and your ability to win games a lot. It also makes pub games less frustrating because it's a lot less aggravating to play pubs if you stop worrying so much about what your teammates are doing wrong.

TC need lots of fixing.

The ulti AOE seems smaller than the one in Dota 1.
And his first skill stun duration isn't working as intended.
Play your best

The spirit's MS also doesn't interact correctly with speed boosts/slows applied to the main hero.

They aren't even a team, how do you figure they're going to compete?
Literally a pub stack who attempted to qualify, not like Vici who are a bunch of pub stompers under an organization
