IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

Either way it would be logical for GOM to pick up Dota because there is no way they can compete with LoL tournaments(all the Korean OGN players are pretty much KESPA affiliated I believe).

Unfortunately, just because GOM doesn't pick it up doesn't mean it will be popular.

Also, how popular was SC2 in korea? I was under the impression it never got really big (well, BW or LoL big) in korea.

I never said it will but its a decent step, honestly if Dota 2 can get off the ground even a little and perhaps create partnerships with China then I can see it going somewhere. It will most likely always be second to LoL but its a decent approach.

Not particularly popular due to Blizzard being bad and not handling relationships it's KeSPA with any degree of finesse.

Nah it didn't. Sure it has fans and the GSL finals for example were pretty populated most of the time. PCbang statistics were always rather low, but i feel like it had something to do with the hardware side of things than the game itself, but don't know.

Odd, I felt like running sc2 on the lowest settings usually was something equivalent to running LoL.

While I understand there isn't the debacle of the blizz vs Kespa (which helped kill sc2 in korea, IMO), the fact that LoL is so established in Korea and Riot's...strong grip on competition will make it difficult.

LoL is free to play, meaning anyone can go to a PC Bang and easily pick it up. SC2 on the other hand requires a subscription if you live in Korea (at least it used to) which may drive people away.

But this was even before LoL got big/launched in Korea. Early times of SC2. Great point nevertheless which certainly helped the PCbang statistics and why LoL got so big.

Well you can apply the same to BW, as that was free if you played on iCCup (is it free on Fish?) and even if you bought it normally, it wasn't as expensive as SC2.

While we are talking about PCBangs, http://gametrics.com/ - has a ranking for top 10 games played in bangs. Things look like this currently:

Dota 2 is definitely going to have tough time to reach the LoL level. Even HotS isn't in the Top 10 right now.

Thanks for that - I'm surprised Sudden Attack is still so widely played...

Also, I take that sc1 is what they meant by Starcraft, which I guess just proves the point of how much sc2 failed to break into korea.

Oh well, good luck Valve.

Yeah it's Broodwar. According to few people in SC2 thread on SC2 General, Warcraft 3 could be people playing original Dota also, but who knows. Personally i don't think so.

Wow. Broodwar and WC3 are more popular than SC2 in Korea? That's quite shocking to me, I thought SC2 was like insanely popular there o_o

Koreans have their own DotA which is probably why WC3 is so high.
Eagerly awaiting Techies.

Chaos DotA has it's own standalone game, it's called Chaos Online, you can google it. Maybe it didn't catch on, or something. Regardless, WC3 custom games are still amazing, so it's not that surprising it's still very popular.

Seems like there's something Dota 2 related coming up in Korea, with the gom intro leak, full localization announced, and this now.

Is, this really happening. StarTale is about to pick up Dota2? IM JUST SO FREAKING HAPPY ABOUT THIS. That Startale is my favorite Sc2 team should be enough information of why I'm so happy

I saw it on reddit. It linked this page as a source.

Thanks for the source.

Even Google Translate can say that there is Dota2
Edit: There is an english version on their fb as well

Honestly, if they idle #tl.dota2 it would seem to me that they are definitely NOT picking up dota, and just gathering evidence why they shouldn't.
